Did you know that you can actually play with your pet fish?

Many fish owners do not realize that their betta fish can be played with just like with any other pet. Although your fish may not fetch like a dog, it can still provide entertainment as long as you take the time to entertain it as well. Fortunately, providing entertainment for your pet fish is also much cheaper than providing for cats and dogs. WATER BEARS!!!

Tardigrades or Water Bears are near microscopic; they can be seen with low power microscopes. These tiny guys grow to about 0.5mm. They are short and stubby with 4 pairs of legs ending with claws or suction cups.

Only being discovered in 1773 by Johann August Ephraim Goeze, there have been fossils of Tardigrades dated back as far as the cretaceous period. They have survived all 5 recognized mass extinctions due to thier super survival characteristics! Scientists have reported Water Bears in hot springs in the Himalayas to the deep sea and under layers of solid ice. Tardigrades are one of the few species that can lower their metabolism to less than 0.01% of normal and can drop thier water content to 1% of normal. During this state, called cryptobiosis, they can go without food or water for 30 years; later, they can rehydrate forage and reproduce like normal! They also enter this state of "hibernation" through anhydrobiosis which allows them to survive inhospitable environments as well as unnatural extremes such as subzero temperatures or even Outer Space!!

This is Glaucus Atlantis also known as the Blue Sea Dragon. It's a type of nudibranch or sea slug! These creature can be found in tropical/subtropical climates world wide and are pelagic, meaning they float upside down by using the surface tension to stay afloat. To do so, they swallow and store air bubbles in a gas-filled sac and are carried along by the wind and currents.

Sea dragons feed on other pelagic critters including the venomous Portuguese Man 'O War, known for its painful sting. Glaucus recycles the "stinging cells" or nematocysts from it's food and stores them in its own tissues as a defense mechanism. Thus, handling this adorable little guy would result in a powerful sting much like one caused by the Man 'O War !

they can emit light through bioluminescence

crown jellyfish live in the pacific and atlantic ocean!

unfortunately, their lifespan is only six months

they’re about 60cm long

crown jellyfish have appendages but no one knows what they’re used for, scientists speculate it’s to capture food!

they are one of the most venomous types of jellyfish but are not harmful to humans :)
