I think the take, "uu!Lomedy has been so adamantly against killing in the past, so it's weird for him to be so on board with Cindercrest" ignores a lot about him as a character. Sure, he's highly in favor of peaceful solutions, but:
Even back during the toxic war arc he would participate in and encourage violence if he believed it was necessary or justified. He was excited after getting the final hit on someone. When Flame first started using his base and wouldn't leave, he said, "Makes me wonder if I should use that thing," in reference to his mace.
He's also quite supportive of revenge (griefing Spongs's farm in retribution and encouraging Flame to "get his get back" after losing to Wemmbu) and punitive justice (insisting on serving his full sentence in Law prison and suggesting Flame do the same when that was still an option).
He can be very prideful and impulsive. He wore leather armor for the Farm War out of pride in upholding the code he had set for himself. He wants to be the best at things. For all his talk about how reckless love of combat got his old teammate killed, he rushed after Arachnid's group when they were fleeing in the Mist.
All that together makes it reasonable that Lomedy would at least hear Cindercrest out. I think a more fun way to approach his decision to join them is to think about what led him to support large-scale violence in a way he hasn't before. However, this is where my analysis kind of falls short, because the only perspective I've watched of the Kingdoms Arc is Flame's, so I don't know a lot about how Cindercrest has been presenting themselves to the wider server.
i’ve been seeing people call torchflower toxic, especially from lomedy’s side, and i wanted to give my two cents
please keep in mind that this was written before parrot’s upload! apologies if this is disorganized, hard to understand, or repetitive 🙇
i don’t think torchflower are toxic for each other. they have bettered one another in many different ways, whether it be lomedy teaching flame how to appreciate the simpler things in life or flame encouraging lomedy to finally stand up for himself. i do, however, agree that their relationship isn’t perfect.
firstly, lomedy doesn’t try to deter flame from pursuing his goals. he has no issues with him pursuing the title of “grand combat master” or “the strongest”, it’s when flame kept dragging him into trouble that he stood his ground. in fact, lomedy even encouraged flame to keep pursuing them (e.g. when flame was hunting down wemmbu). the argument they had in the first mist episode came from a place of worry, not because he disagreed with the other’s goals.
i’ve seen people say that he considers himself morally superior, but i don’t think he does. lomedy doesn’t expect people to follow the same morals he does (the only exception is when flame was residing at his base). his morals were originally brought up in their argument because despite his constant complaints and insistence to stay out of fights, flame kept bringing them to him, which endangered both of their lives.
secondly, lomedy didn’t take advantage of flame. during the farm war, he proposed a deal with flame, a maxed out horse in exchange for his support. there was mutual benefit here. lomedy kept his word, he gave flame the horse after their deal was done. flame wasn’t forced to help lomedy, he could’ve said no if he wanted to. he made flame follow the farmer code because his base, his rules. moreover, flame was the one who was egging on lomedy to get back at spongs and willision. in the end, they both enjoyed themselves.
thirdly, lomedy is not manipulative. like in the farm war, he didn’t force flame to join cindercrest, flame willingly joined them.
if anything, lomedy is the one who’s being manipulated here.
he’s not immune to propaganda, nobody is. flame manages to see cindercrest for what they are because he has had first-hand experience while lomedy only has second-hand experience. flame used to be in the mafia and, as far as we know, the most interaction lomedy has ever had with the mafia is through his old teammate.
overall, i think torchflower, at most, has communication issues that they still need to work on. it hasn’t gotten to the point where their relationship can be considered unhealthy yet. with how different their mindsets are, it’s a given that they’ll occasionally be at odds with each other.
dyle timesly character analysis (dandy's world + slight motm)
something about dyle being isolated from all the other toons but wanting to be a part of them and not denied the luxury of friends because he's made only as an assistant to never appear anywhere but in the background where no one ever sees him and also something about beginning to hate the other toons for never really noticing him even when he decides he has the freedom to run a shop after gardenview's shutdown and finally interact with the others he never really seems to fit in with anyone and it morphs into this desperate want to just be a part of something and be loved that then becomes hate in the form of twisted dyle.
daydreaming in the corners of your quiet little station just to be a part of something wonderful one day because you see it all around you in a way that's untouchable and you *want* to touch it, to be part of the untouchable even. you want kids who will love you and people to talk to and someone who will yell "good morning!" to you and check on you just because they care but you will always wake up to the train chugging along tracks instead. it comes to a point that sometimes you wonder if your love for trains is even your own, or just another programming meant to coerce you into liking your job enough to be silenced and take the work, because who wants to work in something they don't like? and you undeniably like trains but the existentialism of it is still there, whether you even have control over your own personality or not. but you'll keep it in because you were never taught the concept of emotion, something that was self-learned and thus you guilt yourself over the fact you feel these complex internal turmoils when you should be working instead.
as someone who's been diagnosed autistic myself, i heavily believe in the idea that dyle is autistic. he is incredibly blunt, has a special interest (albeit a mystery whether he acquired it on his own) and most of the time does not lie or deceive, which is a common trait in *some* of the spectrum since most neurodivergent people do not quite grasp the idea of twisting a narrative. that also depends on the spectrum and the level of functionality but in my own experience the only times i can lie is when i've built up experience from multiple past events where i learn lying is for my own safety, or if i'm told it's for a very good reason that i can get behind. on another note, his twisted version also seems incredibly sensitive to noise, and even angered by it, which can be attributed to sensory issues, which is another personal symptom of mine. there's a parallel to be made about twisted dyle and autistic meltdowns honestly that i can't word correctly.
(to be fair though, dandy's world just seems incredibly tailored to neurodivergent people just by its structure and designing so. shrugs)
i saw a comment about twisted dyle and i just had to sit there and think about it because it isn't canon at all but it's such a good theory/headcanon. something something dyle being slightly more emotionally reserved so he doesn't lash out like most twisteds or as how dandy would after becoming incredibly upset, stressed, and ignored.
dandy is aware of himself becoming a monster due to his own haywire emotions and later canonically apologizes for it, and astro acknowledges his twisted counterpart has four arms (rather uncomfortably).
dyle only crashes out really when he's in the safespace of his own floor which is his station and by that point he's completely inconsolable and probably best avoided.
there was another part to the short theory that he wasn't aware of himself when that happened but i'm not into that because there's something about just holding it all in and just trusting yourself enough in your own space to be able to freely let yourself break and be angry at everything and yet people still invade your space and then blame you for the damage. they never visited your train station before so why are they doing it now when you need your privacy more than ever? they never cared before and now you're nothing but a ticking time bomb in their eyes.
it's okay, though, because you've always been in the background so it shouldn't matter what they thought of you when they never really thought about you at all. yet it's ironic that you daydream about being a part of something special and now, after wishing to be noticed, you finally have been
but only as a monster.
(and also dyle has a phobia of snakes and his twisted form is snake-like so that's just great)
about myth dyle:
just the entire notion of dyle turning into that when he was once beautiful and it being conscious realization of what that ink changes about you. mourning someone who's still alive is one of the craziest tropes to me forever.
it's not even about bendy anymore because is anyone going to miss him from gardenview? he said he had no friends because his purpose was to work, not to dally and actually enjoy the life he's been given, and consciously he sees himself as nothing but a tool and yes while that was a programmed default it is also learned mindset, suggesting his environment, despite being polite and nice as seen by dandy's "friendship" with him, still sees him mostly as a useful tool and/or assistant rather than an equal.
he obviously had to have learned his personality from external factors, considering the little panel we got about dyle first meeting dandy was when dyle had just been "manufactured" and booted up, and he was very clearly a blank slate with no idea of a personality or emotions. i believe dandy's influence taught him how to be a person in those areas, but i can't say enough because we haven't seen much and probably never will of their relationship, especially when dyle consistently claims he's never had a real friend before. he *does* consider dandy a friend it seems, but in the way you'd consider a co-worker your acquaintance.
the fact alone that he's been with gardenview so long and only now does his notion about himself and what he deserves in life change when he meets strangers like bendy and sheba, but sheba and bendy aren't going to mourn a stranger. and if he's been with gardenview so long still seeing himself as a tool and nothing else then he doesn't have anyone there to miss him either
so he died a tool just as he was beginning to let himself be happy
a jamatop extensive character study from a jamatop kin, because as of late he seems to be the most underdeveloped character of all time.
something about jamato getting objectively worse and being delusional about it aka paralleling spoke nearly exactly. using his totem exploit when he himself repeats time and time again how exploits should not be used and they make the world unstable, possibly being the cause for several deaths of people completely unrelated to his original goal.
i think the day jamato realises what he's become is the day he dies because i don't think he'll be able to handle the sheer juxtapositionary weight of his own judgement and the fact that, both legally and morally, he's somehow become worse than spoke ever will. but at the same time not literally. he dies in some abstract way. gives up completely and lays limp for whatever fate karma gives him next. but i think he's too scared to *really* die. to stop existing completely. the totems prove that. jamato is always scared, he shares that with spoke, and he uses that as a motive for everything he does.
i think this fucked up bug also has mental issues in the way that like, he is a coward. through and through. he wants to just get away from everything and disappear completely no matter what happens. and i think a part of why he hates spoke is because spoke is everything he isn't, too. they share the same scared attributes, they're both exploiters, they've had similar ambitions and come from the same kinship and yet spoke is always out there, always at the centre of major events, being brave enough to stop the mafia despite everything, stopping leo's insanity with bat despite it being his fault. and i think jamato hates spoke for that because he knows if he had made the same mistakes that spoke had, he wouldn't have done the same. he wouldn't have stuck around to fix them.
it's a jealousy that creeps up on him silently and manifests in the intrusive idea that spoke is self-righteous and arrogant. spoke got involved in law too, despite not having anything to do with it, he got involved in fixing the server from tyranny and jamato stood by and watched. if the problem doesn't reach him, then it's not his to deal with. he has bystander issues.
"i'm not trying to protect the server from ashswag, i'm not protecting it from the mafia, i'm protecting it from you" but in this new sense that his own isolation has caused his judgement to be warped. spoke is fixing everything. but he is also at the centre of it all. he is causing this to happen in the first place and causing jamato this internal turmoil of being a coward and if spoke had never been there in the first place there would be no mafia, no rogue bat, nothing at all. that's jamato's warped belief i think. it's on completely shaky foundations and he's holding onto it with the thinnest of threads to keep himself sane and he's clearly losing it the more null becomes active. his grip is faltering.
jamato tries to act like this unstoppable force, imposing his own self-righteousness he refuses to believe he has onto spoke, trying to appear calmer and more mature and in control.
he's trying too hard to act like wifies.
using unknown soldiers to eliminate things in his way behind the backs of everyone? keeping the identity of the leader as vague as possible? being obsessed with one specific person? trying to lead the narrative like he knows how it's going to play out? he tries too hard at anything and forgets to be real. it's like he's trying to erase himself.
there’s a belief that bugs don’t really like the sun, but i think it's the opposite, on jamato's part. i think it's the way a fly buzzes annoyingly, or the way you can never really ignore an irritating black form flitting about. the way all bugs are perceived as bloodsuckers and nothing more. it's a type of self-hatred for himself, but in a way that's redirected at everyone else to make himself feel better.
i think people don't understand jamato because they are victims of his facade. his act is working.
people believe he's some mastermind, some know-it-all, a mature and mysterious figure with a quiet voice and hard-hitting lines, they believe he's pulling all the strings and that all this time he's been leading spoke on; that's exactly what he wants to look like. because he is calm. a calmness too eerie. and that's led most to believe jamato couldn't possibly have deeper emotions. he couldn't possibly have turmoil, or be imperfect, or struggles, therefore he must be apathetic, therefore he must be the perpetrator. jamato is trying to look like everything here except the perpetrator part, that’s why it works, but he cared so much he ran.
jamato cares about his image, too. not in a way thats like. how dare you ruin my reputation!! grr!!! but in the sense that he cares how people perceive him, and he feels too vulnerable around spoke because spoke knows almost everything about him, having been so close. this is emphasized by his appearance with wemmbu.
he tries to act like a know-it-all to spoke, when all he really knows is spoke. he barely knows anything with wemmbu, acts as polite as possible after making sure wemmbu is trustworthy (being tricked quite easily) and then seeming hurt and running when wemmbu tries to kill him.
there are crazy points in that one simple, brief as fuck interaction that make me insane.
jamatop knows nothing. if he truly knew everything in the server, he would know who wemmbu was, his reputation, and know to avoid him by all costs, especially with wemmbu's visit in the underworld and jamato having heavy ties to them. which means he cares that spoke thinks he's got it all under control, he doesn't want to break in front of spoke or show any more vulnerability. he wants spoke to think he's invincible.
jamatop is sentimental. when he trusted wemmbu, his instincts were to be as accommodating as possible. he began telling whatever he knew about certain things to wemmbu, essentially nerding out, and being as polite as possible. he cared about this "new friend" and wanted to make a good impression.
i still think about the totem scene. jamato's dare for spoke to murder him, and then use a totem to escape. there's so much to unpack there.
why did he bluff? did he want to make an empty point to spoke that he knows his next moves? solidify to spoke and himself how spoke has become a villain?
he didn't want to die. hell he didnt even think it through. it was a spontaneous bluff, like throwing a fit.
i think, and this is my best guess, the one i feel is most right; if spoke hadn't attempted to kill jamato there, jamato would've broke. i think that was his slipping grip on his composure and a last-ditch effort to restabilize his belief that he should despise spoke. he needed proof to himself to keep going down this delusion. It’s like. to me, at least, missing someone who's still alive. he's warped and changed spoke in his mind so much for his own comfort that actually being face to face with spoke nearly destroyed all the work he put into convincing himself. i think that's another reason why he never bothered to come see spoke again. i think he only showed up there to steal mapicc and zam, if only to prove himself more right. to show them a peaceful world wihtout spoke's chaos and watch how happier they would become and then use that as proof for himself even more that he's doing the right thing. but he didn't expect spoke to be there so soon, if at all, really.
i think the isolation and lack of connection is something he's jealous of too because even with all the wrongs spoke keeps making he has all these people on his side, while jamato is completely incapable of connecting with anyone like he did with spoke ever again. but he can't be wrong. surely spoke is manipulating them to stay there with him. surely something is wrong. and he can do better.
i think he also sees it as a mild insult, a means of apathy the way spoke "replaced" jamato so fast with mapicc. when spoke was really unstable and needed someone to hold him up, and mapicc stayed long enough for spoke to get attached, jamato took this as him being easily replaceable and then wondered when exactly spoke would replace all his other new friends when they stopped being useful, too. maybe that's what sparked this unjust hatred. a pitfall of isolation and hurt that spirals into jealousy and desperate tactics.
reminder that jamato and spoke are both the villains of each other’s story in my view, and i don’t view either of them as in the right at all. i think they are both terrible for each other and should be made even worse. #toxicfriendshipgoals or whatever
an analysis of uu-medy and my interpretation of his dynamics with flame 🌼
i’m not the best with my words so i apologize if this is disorganized, hard to understand, or repetitive!
so much of lomedy’s decisions are driven by his grief over his past teammate, and i’d love to talk about it.
from the start, we can see that flame and lomedy’s past teammate are very clearly mirrors of each other.
they are both pvp-centered, both prideful of their skills, both worked in the mafia, and finally, both take on a protector-like role towards lomedy.
something interesting to note here is that flame only seems to WILLINGLY lean more into this role after lomedy brought up his teammate. it was very much a one-sided friendship at first, with lomedy quickly clinging onto flame.
lomedy may have let flame drag him along because flame threatened him and he couldn’t fight back, but i think it’s because he saw his teammate in flame too, after flame protected him.
why would lomedy build flame that tnt duper? you could say he felt indebted to him, but combined with how lomedy hands flame one of his treasured maces like it’s nothing, i think this is lomedy’s way of showing how much he cares about him.
not only was he lonely and wished for company, but he was concerned for flame.
please say yes? i wanna stick by you and save your dissected heart!
