Jokes and normalizing the effects of oppression are the first step to a genocide. Normalizing the treatment of minorities as ‘subhuman’, bringing up the subject in a joking manner without treating it with respect (unless one is affected by said oppression) is normalizing it, and makes the transition to hate crimes all the easier. This is a recognized first step. Comparing himself to Hitler normalizes Hitler, even if just as a joke. Jokes are not falling on deaf ears- do you support racist/mysoginistic/ableist jokes as well? No? Then why excuse antisemetic ones that make light of the literal Holocaust?
Dynamo is the admin of FeralFront. People can see every post he makes as long as it isn’t in the staff boards, including children and, guess who, alt-righters and Neo-Nazis. The former, it’ll normalize it, the latter, they’ll see it as support.
Yes, I got the statistic about how many people died wrong. And it was in Charlottesville, not Charleston, I apologize for that mistake. But there was also 19 people injured the same night that he made this joke, and had he been paying any attention to the media, he would have known this was not an appropriate joke to make on that night especially, not that there is ever a time that it is okay to joke about it.
No actions are without repercussions. It was inappropriate of him to make a joke about Hitler when he is supposed to be an admin, someone whose actions represent the site. That is what one is signing up for when they become staff; for their words and actions to be representative of the site itself. I know because that was what I agreed to when I was on staff formerly.

Antisemetism and racism have been on the rise. We have to be critical of it in whatever communities we find ourselves in. We have to be critical of it in order to prevent it from getting any worse and to hopefully eradicate it. This joke was not as bad as it could have been; but does something have to be at its absolute worst in order to be criticized? Or can we prevent it from getting there?
Treating Hitler like a topic to lackadaisically compare yourself and others to normalizes him. It is not a topic you can take lightly. It is not something an admin of a website should treat so lightly; that’s just plain disrespectful.
Also, never compare me to Hitler again. He engineered the torture and murder of millions of people based off of genocides happening prior, stated beforehand his support for genocide, wrote an entire book about how he was going to kill everybody that didn’t fit his idea of the ‘arian’ race, stole terms and symbols, took advantage of the rising antisemetism/anti-romani racism in europe and especially in Germany to create a scapegoat for the German people to blame their recent loss in WW1 on, had his political party fake a mob of Jewish people so they could blame the damages on the Jewish people and have a reason to torture them, and many other pretty horrible things that I’m not going to mention for the sake of time. I am a teenage minor on the internet who’s the mod of a blog you don’t like who tries to keep track of everything the staff of FeralFront have done wrong in order to prevent other communities from turning out the same, and to make sure that I can prevent as many people as I can from being harmed by joining FeralFront because of my own prior experiences with the website and how it treats minorities. We are not the same, we are not even similar in any conceivable way.
