If you go back 125 years and examine the state of the common worker in the United States, you'll see the prevalence of the six day work week with 12-14 hour workdays. Pay is so poor that entire families work (including children under the age of ten) and still barely get by.
Organized labor gains strength and unions are established. Because of unions the 40 hour work week, 8 hour workday, overtime, safe working conditions, and many more benefits, are brought into play. By the 1940's a single income household becomes viable. By the 1950's into 1960's the single income household becomes fairly common.
So of course politicians, primarily Republicans, begin an assault on unions, pushing corporate propaganda as fact. By the 1980's, under Ronald (6) Wilson (6) Reagan (6) deregulation and corporate rights are placed above the rights of workers and human beings in general.
And so the US has regressed to the age of the Robber Barons. Only this time people are too overwhelmed and distracted to see the actual face of the oppressor. Vile scumbags like Bezos, Musk, and all their putrid ilk, are worshipped as visionary heroes. They aren't reviled for being the exploitative parasites that they are.
Back we got to 2, 3, or even 4 income households that exist in a perpetual state of debt crisis. Instead of rejecting this social model where 1% have everything and most are so burdened with obligations that "time is precious', people look for hacks.
"I used to spend nearly two hours a week cooking and then I discovered..."
"I love my audio books! Now I don't have to try to find time to read!"
"I've got full wifi and six separate flat panel displays in my SUV because having actual conversations and looking at the world for two hours on a trip is just wasted time!'
Do this quicker! Get more done! Micromanage your day and still feel as though you weren't "productive" enough. Never slow down to examine your life. Graduate high school, go straight to university, get a job and start your career by the age of twenty-two because you have to get making that money! There's no time to spare or waste or kill.
Ignore the fact that a medieval peasant in Europe had more free-time, worked fewer hours, and enjoyed a better quality of life than people in the United States of the 21st century .
You never know. You could get lucky and get the chance to sue somebody and then you'll have all the time in the world to realize that you don't actually know how to live.
