HE COULDN’T BRING HIMSELF TO LAUGH.
( foolish, aren’t you? you could have said anything else & you chose that. how pathetic of you. he does his best to ignore the thoughts that push their way into his mind, begging him to claw his hair out. )
He took a moment to calm himself down before moving to sit, obediently — it wasn’t as if there was much of a fight to put up when he was told to sit in the chair. He wasn’t sure if it was a way of inviting Shoto to be closer or simply because he looked like an idiot standing there & he wasn’t about to question it, if only out of fear of the actual answer.
❝Probably both, knowing them.❞ Fuyumi had always been the type to cry over them all, but a lecture wouldn’t exactly be out of the question either depending on what had happened — & with that stunt, he was sure even Natsuo wouldn’t waste any time telling Toya to be more careful. Perhaps if Shoto were anything like them, anywhere near as bold, he’d have muttered a scolding of his own.
It wasn’t as if he hadn’t already been tactless enough, there was no point adding to the list of sentences he’d said that were silly.
❝I’ve been okay. You don’t have to do any worrying about me.❞ He didn’t want Toya to be concerned when Shoto was safe & healthy & happy, not when he had friends to take care of him on the days he wasn’t feeling up to being awake. There was nothing to worry about, he was aware of that, so why should he let Toya have any concern over his well-being?
❝I’m happy with everything, mostly.❞
ah, typical. it was... nice to know they hadn’t changed in that regard since the last he was around them.
he nodded with a hum, though it scraped his throat. “that--- that’s good. i’m glad.”
something rotten began to grow in his gut. he blinked slowly, sluggishly & turned away. he felt---bad, horrible. thinking about all he’s done to this family, his family. how much damage did he do?
“... & school? is that.. going well for you?”
