He packed up a small bindle, tied it securely to his trusty stick, and slung it over his shoulder. Just a few things for the road—he didn’t think too much about what he might need. He simply felt the urge to leave and to leave quickly.
A thick, heavy woolen cloak with a deep hood to guard against wind and rain. That was it. That was all he needed—the rest, he was certain, would be provided along the way. Somehow.
He didn’t say goodbye. He wasn’t sure what was left for him there anyway.
Easing the heavy wooden door open, he stepped carefully to avoid its creak and emerged from the burrow into a dawn only just beginning. Mist curled along the paths and clung to the trees. His heart pounded as he recalled a line from some old book:
"You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to."
With that thought in mind, he took a deep breath and set foot on the little path, and walked onwards into the mist.
On a rocky little outcrop, barely even an island. There sits a little cottage. Who lives upon this isolated promontory? Smoke rises from the chimney twisting off with the winds. A little crab shuffles along his way. An old rowboat tied up by the mossy rocks. Someone is home 🌊🏠
A recent original watercolour painting. Also, it’s been a long time since I’ve posted to this feed (a year 😬)and it had changed quite a bit, oh well, once more into the fray.
A little shepherd of seed & sapling.
Clambering over roots and striding happily through the litter of the forest floor, this little Sprite is a shepherd of saplings. Through many years of wandering the woodland, he has almost become one with the flora itself. Mosses and mushrooms cling and grow in every crevice and dip of his garb. His satchels are full of seeds and little leaves that have caught his eye.
He holds his trusty old hiking stick, which he often uses to reach and inspect roots and shoots just beyond his grasp. From this hangs a little moon, lighting his way during early morning wanderings. His eyes are large, soaking up all the light that manages to pierce the thick canopy of the ancient treetops, and a subtle green glow emanates from them.
It is a vast and dense forest, and he has much work to do. Long time no see Tumblr! I shall be gradually updating with recent work as I go along :) The above little tale that I wrote to go along with this little guy is taken from my Substack called Fánaíocht
Fox goes deep into the woods. He knows of an old stone shelter which sits by a stream that babbles its way into a small pond. He knows not who built it nor when. He has some books there and a teapot. The wind rustles the grass and the leaves, the water trickles over stones. Some ducks paddle by in the pond as steam rises from an old blue teapot. Fox decides he shall stay here for the day. I wanted to convey a scene that would give the viewer a sense of calm and solitude. Fox is alone here, away from his thoughts and from the rest of the world. This is a quiet and peaceful place for him. I wanted the viewer to feel what Fox feels as he sits there with his books and tea by the pond.
For the spirit of the Halloween spooky season, I created this Treetop Witch's Hovel. 9x12", pencil (2B), fineliners & watercolour on watercolour paper. Happy Halloween and enjoy! :)
Hello everyone! Here's a recent commissioned illustration I completed for a Dutch client. The client was looking for two characters to use on some commercial material, banners etc for markets, conventions with their small business. The two owls reflect the personalities of the two co-owners of the business. It was a fun little job and it's always a pleasure to be painting cute owls. Enjoy!
A peek into the reading cell of some forgotten forest hermit. 🏡 🌲 📚
Had not created an image for a while incorporating much digital collage, so I painted up this little structure in watercolour, scanned it in and sat it in a deep misty forest using PS & Procreate ✨ c:
Here’s a little study based on the typical style of building in the Raval area. The area is extremely lively, diverse, loud and almost always has something going on. The structures are old, ramshackle, cramped, covered in graffiti and clothes. Awnings and sun coverings hang over windows and doors. There’s a myriad of pokey little bars and shops at the street level of most buildings. Raval bursts with colour and detail and is always interesting to wander about in :v
A recent little lighthouse piece. Watercolours & fineliner pens, 9x12 inches.
Here is a Shaman Frog who roams the land spreading the summer season! 🌞🐸
