Some bird studies by way of world building. These birdies belong to a group of animals in Alderland that I cheekily refer to as "svaedran GMOs", aka, man made species created through magically induced mutations.

"Witch hawk" is technically an umbrella term for two different species, one of which is a coastal bird that mainly hunts fish, the other which is a more inland species that mainly hunts small mammals and other birds.

The left side features the "sea" hawks, which are largely based on the white-bellied sea eagle and ospreys, with broader wings to allow a more passive, soaring flight. The "wood" hawks on the right are based on the swallow tailed kite with thinner wings and a forked tail for highspeed maneuverability between trees. Both species are quite large, with sea hawks being slightly larger but both are comparable to a golden eagle in size. Which probably doesn't make sense for the wood hawks given their wing shape but fuck it, we ball, it's magic and I think they look cool.

Yeah, I spend way too much time thinking about this setting.
