made this wee painting for the Tiny Art Show at the Samuels Public Library!
if you find yourself in the front royal, va area, stop in and check out the rad art!
btw, if you wanna own these birbs, (or any of the art on display) 100% of your purchase is donated to the library💕
a little more info:
the samuels public library was briefly featured on an episode of john oliver which talked about the importance of libraries to their communities as places to learn, retreat, connect and access resources. unfortunately, the city recently voted not to fund the library, so they’ve been staying open on emergency donations. it’s such a shame because the library has so much to offer the community (and especially the underserved), including all kinds of classes, an art studio, an area where teachers can tutor kids, job fairs and more outreach than you can shake a stick at, in addition to the usual books and media on offer. it’s a really great place and it deserves to stay open. so many people benefit from (maybe even depend upon) the many great things it brings to the area.
also, just saying, libraries like this are one of increasingly few places we have left if we are away from home and want to get out of the heat/cold/rain, need to use the toilet, or fancy a quiet space to simply exist for a bit, where you can do so without having to spend money. that is becoming so exhaustingly rare these days.
the Tiny Art Show show runs thru the month of July. drop by and check it out, perhaps lend your support to the worthy cause if you can :)
