You got this.” to me again it would be a day of rejoicing. • • • Being #strong does not qualify one to be able to know the course of action or direction to go. This notion that is forcibly placed upon many #blackwomen is often more painful than helpful. In this notion one is not allowed to breakdown, to not know, to not “be Strong”. In this notion you are rarely checked on (my sis @jimettarose spoke on this in a post on FB last week) ask genuinely how you are and provided with actual action ways in which to be of assistance. Because someone is strong does not mean that they know what it is they need; herein lies the struggle of communicating what you need but not being clear on that yourself. • • • In the past few year my #depression and #anxiety has heightened to levels I’ve not dealt with since I became a #domesticviolence survivor. I’ve wondered why, like what the fuck is wrong?!?! And then I really think and I know what it is, and floors me. The 1 and 2 year anniversary of the death of my parents is coming up in February and your body knows, your mind knows. And it’s not just February it’s all the months and times that led to their passing that effect you. #Grief is one of the worst things I’ve ever had to deal with. And all the loss associated with my parents death has too increased my doubt in folks, people really being there for you and placing action, love and purpose within professed love. I’ve seen 40 plus years of “family” and “friendship” trampled on - it’s so defeating. • • • What do I need? I’m not clear on that. I do know that words aren’t it. I don’t often express my feelings out loud because then I’m bombarded with “be grateful” , “be positive” , “be strong” 😖 , “keep pushing” and the list goes on. • • • But I am all those things! Every damn one of them! • • • People probably won’t even read this; it’s all good. It’s more for me to recognize ME.

I was doing a lot of shit and hella persistent, and if I wanted it I just put it out there and people loved. At various points thru #urbanvintage #urbvvntg I had about a total of 10-12 volunteer interns. Like folks were willing to help me for free! That’s dope. • • • And I collaborated with my #friends . At most my events I’d have a friend or friends performs; usually #singers. Provided space for my friends to showcase their craft. I remember creating this #makeover contest and the Queen her won was so happy with her makeover. It was such a blessing and dope ass feeling to bring a working mother and wife a fresh new vibe. My #queensis @misslita made her a custom dress from her line. • • • I’m saying all this to say I trying to be her and then some again.
