It’s two days into the school year and I am already having a life crisis.

I just don’t think I can do this much more. I love teaching. I love my students. But trust me when I say the hours and the pay are not the worst things about being a teacher.

The worst thing is having a boss who micromanages you without offering help or support or guidance. The worst part is the policies that tell you to prepare children for the real world but don’t want you to talk about how the system screws over women and minorities. The worst part is being told to teach, as long as you teach the status quo. It’s being told that you aren’t a person with a life separate from school.

You are a teacher 24/7 and to many people, a teacher is not a person.

I am tired of silencing myself to keep the people in power happy. I cannot be the change I want to see in the world in a school. I cannot teach my students to be the best version of themselves if I am constantly being told myself that who you are only matters if you have a 9-5 job and can pass a standardized test.

I want more for myself and for my students.

I'm getting really tired of people complaining that former Bernie supporters are voting for Clinton. I'm getting really tired of people who are going to throw their vote away because they "can't vote for her." I loved Bernie. I wanted him to win so bad. Yes, I am aware and saddened that the decked was stacked against him. Of course I think Hilary is a bad person and shouldn't be president after everything she's done. But you know what's worse? My husband being deported. My step-daughter losing her father indefinitely. An estimated 400,000 undocumented immigrants are registered through DACA. And if Trump becomes president I have no doubt he will use that information to begin detaining and deporting people. I wish I had the privilege of standing my ground and writing Bernie in, or voting for a 3rd party candidate. I wish I had a better candidate to choose from who could feasibly win. I wish that the DREAM act had gotten 4 more votes. So yes, I might be voting for the devil. I might be voting for her for the wrong reasons. I may even be condescending to people who don't understand how important this election is. But people are acting like petulant children and they are going to be the reason that my family, and millions of others, are torn apart. Until you understand that, you don't get to judge who I am voting for.

So there’s a Japanese slang term, ‘chuunibyou’, that roughly translates to “Middle School 2nd Year Syndrome.” It is used to describe the stupid phases people go through when they are 14, like pretend to be really hardcore, act like they know everything, say they have mystical powers, etc.
