Where we say 'you are free to think of me whatever you like, like me, don't like me, be interested, not be interested, I don't need to think about you'. Why, because my thoughts about you don't reach you. You are not who I think you are. Is that true. Therefore if I am thinking about what you think of me this is called semantic masturbation. It is non-connective, it doesn't produce anything, it's self referential because I don't actually know how you are in this moment and how you would be if you were able to respond openly and easily to how I am as I take myself to be. So this is all saying all these scripts you have learned, all these storylines that have been fed to you in the course of your education in some ways they are pathways of connectivity, they open doors, they allow you to operate in the world but if you take them seriously you become enslaved by what you take to be the expectation of others
