A blog dedicated to celebrating positive moments in the FFXIV tumblr community! Please send positive messages in ask or submit. Currently run by one adult lady who plays on Balmung and has been playing for more than 6 months and less than a year (as of 2015).

Hello everyone! (FAQ)

Inspired by other fandom positivity blogs, I decided to make one for the FFXIV fandom on tumblr. 

How does it work? It works by people submitting (or sending in an ask) positive things about the community members. I put the words on a nice background and post it as a pic. You can submit your own image or just text. 

Submission guidelines:

1. BE AS SPECIFIC AS YOU CAN! Please don’t say something like: “This player “X” is awesome.” Instead, explain why they’re awesome. Did they help organize a run for a tricky story dungeon for you and a friend? Did they diffuse a tense linkshell discussion with impressive diplomacy?

2. You can shout out names of characters, free companies, linkshells, servers, etc.. However, any submissions containing personal information of players will be promptly deleted. 

3. By default, I will not say who submitted the positive messages. However! If you want it known, let me know and I’ll sign it with your tumblr or character name. This option is only available for non-anonymous submissions. 

4. Positive things only! For example: “Although some people don’t like Player “Y”, they bought me a minion for my birthday and are always kind to me.” will be rejected unless changed to something like: “Player ‘Y’ bought me a minion for my birthday and is always kind to me.” 

5. If you have a preference for what image/theme is used with your submission, let me know when you submit it.

If more guidelines need to come into play, I’ll keep this post updated. If anyone wants to help with image making and/or the blog theme, let me know in an ask. Finally, a big thank you for the entire community for making this game a place where people can come to enjoy themselves in Eorzea!

I want to say that @dennydraws is one of the most talented, sweet, funny, amazing individuals I’ve ever met. She makes me laugh, does amazing RP’s, and her art warms my heart. She is a great friend and an overall wonderful person. Give her many hugs!

I’ve been busier than expected since my last post, but I plan to have something up tomorrow. In the meantime, please fill my inbox with submissions! I’ve only gotten two since reopening. I can make some myself, but that’ll just limit it to people I know and that’s not fair to the rest of the community. There, this will be my last post having anything to do with the shit from yesterday.

I turned anon off on all of my blogs because someone took it upon themselves to send me anons on them since this one was turned off. That’s not how that works, fam. The only necessary information you sent me was to tell me that my name has been brought up in a “Balmung’s Do Not Follow” list that someone was compiling on a Discord channel.

If that’s true, maybe you should bring that to people’s attention publicly instead of cowering behind the veil. Maybe that was something actually worthy of receipts. I know I lost fourteen followers last night so SOMETHING happened, but I don’t know if it’s as petty as a blacklist for having a differing opinion than the popular one.

If anymore of you hear something, don’t be afraid to go public with it. People have a right to know that someone is making lists with them in it, especially if it’s toxic and unnecessary.

Oh for heaven’s sake, there’s a do not follow list? You’ve got to be kidding me.

I speak up a lot in defense of common courtesy- treat people well, be a good person, tolerate those who may be different from you. We ALL come from different walks of life and we ALL have different stories, and guess what?

We ain’t all gonna get along, folks. That’s just how life works.

Now then, there’s a big difference between simply accepting that and moving on and deliberately doing DAMAGE to people by telling everyone and their brother’s yappy dog that someone is a horrible, awful person who doesn’t deserve friends. I’ll use myself as an example. I’ve had struggles with someone in the fairly recent past, some of you may know the story and some of you may not- the specifics aren’t important. Feelings were hurt on both sides, things that were unfair were said on both sides, and we parted ways. I haven’t given it much thought since, and you know what? If someone approached me to ask about that person, I could STILL find something nice to say about them because despite our personal differences and my completely irrelevant opinion of them as a person, they still have good qualities. I would be pissed as hell to see them end up on a list like this because EVERYONE deserves the chance to improve and become a better person.

Literally and legitimately, all these lists do are create a Mean Girls environment in which people are pitted against one another and begin to see how many different ways they can hurt one another. If you don’t see a problem with that, then it’s entirely possible that YOU are part of the problem at large. I get not wanting to see people hurt, I really do, but it is not your place to say “this person is a bad person and you should avoid them”. You are locking that person into your own experience and denying them the opportunity for growth and change.

Just stop. Please.

If they took the same effort to search out people to put into a “Do Not Follow” list and instead found people to put into a “Do Follow” list, we’d all be better for it, eh? :D

Very least, gives me an idea where all the roleplayers are. That’s half the battle. Also structured data opportunity.

There actually was a blog for a time that had roleplayers listed on it and the positive things about their blogs. I can’t remember the name or anything, but it was around some two years ago or so. I haven’t seen anything from it in a loooong time.

I saw this on my dash, and I don’t know if I was the blog you meant. I’ve had to take off tumblr a while to deal with my health (majorly), school, and work. HOWEVER! Things are starting to come together and look up for me. I considered restarting the blog, but I wasn’t sure if my little positive edits were doing a service for the community. If this is something the ffxiv Balmung community wants, you have my sword! And my editing skills! And my free time!

If you meant a different blog, I apologize profusely, but the offer stands.

But no, really. We need that again, desperately. For the past five months or so, I’ve personally been seeing very little positivity in the community. It’s mostly been people at each other’s throats, or people tearing down other RPers, among many MANY other things. We really need someone to just bring even just as LITTLE light back.

I think you might be the hero we need :).

Sorry everyone

Just wanted to say goodbye to the community before I go. Doing it here on this blog because you guys are great at saving people. It’s part of why I love you, and why I made this blog, but I don’t want you to succeed with me. I think I’ve hid myself well enough that nobody left in the community who checks tumblr often knows who this is. However, I’ve made my fair share of enemies and people who will be glad to not see my toon walk around anymore. 

This is by no means the fault of anyone who would read this, family included. It’s nothing that anyone did. I’ve just come to the conclusion that the ffxiv community, my family, and everyone around me would be better off if I wasn’t there anymore. Those close to me may feel some initial pain, but it’ll be better in the long run. Just think of it as removing a diseased growth. I’m sorry I pretended to be some bastion of positivity when I was really the worst dregs of the community. But it’ll be okay. After this, I won’t be there to hurt you anymore.

I love reading @sagolii-snowflake's daily momma and smol headcanons! They make me smile, and it's nice to see other people start posting daily headcanons for their characters too as a result.

i want to thank @guccixiv for always being able to make me laugh. they, along with the rest of the hilarious members of <<MONEY>> are part of our community on balmung, and i adore them. thank you, small purple princess, you and your fc make me smile, and i sincerely appreciate that.

A big thank you to Yul Moks who put together an amazing IC wedding reception — complete with multiple IC dancers, singers, bouncers, and servers — for my RP partner and I at the last minute. He was determined to make it good and he hit it out of the park! We were pretty stunned, hah. Thank you for being so generous with your time, energy, and creative RP organization skillzz. YUL always have our gratitude. *makes a clever sneak-faced pun smile* >:3

A huge shoutout to @asnacksreborn for introducing me to the roegadyn linkshell on Jenova! Our FC was in the middle of some rough times, and it was downright not fun to play for a bit. Having friendly people to see running around and just chat with made such a huge difference. Thanks to him and everyone else in the LS for making life in Eorzea so much better!
