Your mom was seated in the living room. “I’m going out to see Tyler.” You said, putting on your shoes.
“Have fun.” Your mom said, without looking up from her book.
Tyler was sitting on your stairs, you had to stop yourself from gasping in surprise.
“Took ya long enough,” Tyler said, his usual goofy smile on his face.
“Yeah.” You breathed. You mentally slapped yourself, today was the day you confessed, and you were terrified.
“I wrote a new song that I wanted to show you, come on.” Tyler grabbed your wrist and pulled you down the street to his house. You could feel your heartbeat in your ears, this wasn’t unusual for Tyler, but it never failed to make your heart race.
You passed Tyler’s mom on the way to his basement.
“Hi, mom.”

Tyler didn’t give her time to respond as he pulled you down the stairs. He let you go and motioned for you to sit in the only chair there was.
He stood by his piano and took a deep breath.

You closed your eyes and let yourself be enveloped into the music. Tyler had a way with words and you have yet to hear a song by him that you didn’t love.

You opened your eyes and looked at Tyler, this was clearly a love song, but you had no clue who it could be for. Tyler was singing with his eyes closed, pouring emotion into the song.
The song finished, and Tyler opened his eyes. You forgot you were staring at him until his eyes met yours. You quickly looked to the corner of the room.
“So, uh. What did you think?” Tyler asked.
You turned back to him, “It was amazing. You could sing your grocery list and I’d still love it.” You smiled, and Tyler chuckled. “It’s a love song, right?”

“Is it too much to ask who you wrote it for?” You asked, nervously playing with your hands. You, of course, wanted the answer to be you but you were prepared to support him.
There was a long silence and you were too nervous to look up from your hands. “It was for you,” Tyler said.
You looked up and Tyler was standing right in front of you, you jumped slightly, and Tyler placed his hands on your shoulders and kneeled.
“I love you.” Tyler breathed, his face centimeters from your own.
“I love you too.” You smiled and placed a hand on his face.
“Can I, uh.” Tyler stumbled, he didn’t need to finish before you closed the distance.

You sighed, she was so persistent, you doubted you’d be able to say no. “Fine.”
She squealed and pulled you out of your chair. “We’re leaving in ten, put on something nice!”
You groaned but decided to change into a nicer shirt. You weren’t too keen on getting drunk, it was only a Tuesday and you had an 8 am, but a drink wouldn’t hurt.
Once you stepped outside the cold hit you, it was only November, but it felt like the middle of winter. Sarah was only wearing a tube top and you wondered how she didn’t drop dead from frostbite. The walk to the frat was brisk, luckily it was mostly uphill, so you weren’t cold for long.
The minute you got to the frat, Sarah ditched you for her friends that were there first. Typical. You weren’t mad, you’d probably do the same if you had friends. You made your way into the kitchen, picking a bottle from the variety on the counter and pouring yourself a drink.
“Look who it is.” You heard a smug voice say behind you. You turned around to greet Joseph with a frown. “Did you come here to see-“
“No.” You cut him off and walked away, hopefully, he wouldn’t follow you the whole night.
“Wait, y/n!” You heard Joseph call. You sighed but decided to hear him out. He slung his arm around your shoulder and pulled you into him, you instantly regretted not ignoring him. “You know it’s usually not a problem, but you’re the only girl who hasn’t given me their number. I know you like me y/n, everyone does. Can I have your number?”
“No. Get off of me.” You said, trying to push him off you. He grabbed your cup and started walking away with it, still facing you. “What are you doing.” You quietly yelled, trying to grab your cup out of his hands.
“You don’t get this back until you tell me your number.” Joseph grins triumphantly. You were so done at the point, you just recited a fake number that you memorized, he doesn’t hand you back your cup.
“Give me my drink.” You say, holding your hand out.
Joseph drops the cup, obviously trying to make it look like an accident. “Oops,” he says, looking at the spilled drink, then back to you. “Guess I’ll have to make you another one.”
You followed him to the kitchen, you wanted to make sure he didn’t do anything weird. He didn’t seem to be upset that you were following him, so you were less worried.
“y/n! Oh. My. God!” Sarah shouted. She grabbed you by the shoulders. “I just saw the hottest guy.” She tried to point him out in the crowd, but she seemed to have lost him. “Fuck. Next time I see him I’ll tell you.” She winked at you, you rolled your eyes. She has been trying to get you to date someone for the entire semester. She ran back to the dance floor.
“Here babe,” Joseph said, handing you a cup filled with liquid. You rolled your eyes at him.
“Thanks.” You said, taking a small sip to test the waters. It didn’t taste that much like alcohol, but you weren’t a lightweight anyway.
“Don’t drink that.” You heard a guy say behind you. You turned around to see the best-looking, guy, you had ever had the pleasure to see. “I saw him put something in the drink.”
You turned around and looked accusingly at Joseph. “Are you fucking kidding me? You wanted to fucking drug me.”
He didn’t say anything but huffed and moved deeper into the crowd of the party.
You sighed and turned back the man. “Thank you so much. I – I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.” You looked down to the drink in your hand and tossed it into the trashcan a few steps in front of you.
He chuckled. “It’s really not a big deal, I’m just glad you’re safe.” He rocked on his heels. “I’m Josh Dun by the way.”
“I’m y/n l/n.” You smiled.
He smiled back, he clasped his hands. Could he be nervous? It seems unlikely… “Do you want to, maybe, sit outside and talk more? I’d like to get to know you better.”
“I’d love that.” You said, he gently grabbed your hand and led you through the house to the back door.

“What’s a Skype?” You ask, innocently, looking at his username. Sean didn’t respond so you looked up to him. He was looking at you with the most incredulous look on his face. “What?” You asked again, tilting your head to the side slightly.
“Are you serious?!” Sean shouted; you winced. “Sorry!” he apologized quickly, placing his hands on your shoulders to comfort you, a gesture you have gotten used to. “A Skype is a service you can use to video chat with people.” He explained.
“That sounds cool.” You muttered.
“I’ll help you make one, let me just get my laptop.” He said, getting up off the couch and walking to the guest room. Mark had gone out to run some errands with Amy, so it was just you and Sean in the apartment.
“Okay,” Sean said as he walked back into the room. “All you have to do is make a username and a password.”
“Sure.” You said, typing your go-to username and password into their corresponding places.
“Awesome, now we can video chat when I go back home!” He said, shutting his laptop.
“Where’s home, exactly?” You asked. Sean leaned back into the couch and put his arm on the top of it. You could feel his fingers brush your neck and you weren’t sure if it was intentional or not.
“Ireland, couldn’t you tell because of my accent?” He laughed.
“Well you could’ve just moved here.” You said, crossing your arms; jokingly defensive.
“What about you?” He asked.
“Cincinnati.” You said, “Mark and I used to be neighbors; that’s how we met. I moved there when I was five.”
Sean sighed and leaned his head against your shoulder. You stiffened at first but relaxed. You were becoming more used to the boys’ close contact.
“Do you want to watch a movie?” Sean asked, lifting his head up and his ocean eyes glaring into yours.
“Uh sure, what do you want to watch?” You asked. You suddenly felt sweaty and nervous. Sean’s gaze switched to the racks of DVD’s by the TV.
Sean hummed, “The Matrix?”
“I haven’t seen it, so sure.” You said. Sean got up to put the DVD in. When he came back, he sat right next to you, so your hips were touching. It didn’t feel bad, but you were constantly aware that his leg was touching yours.
You were already struggling to focus on the movie because of that, and it didn’t help that every so often Sean would glance at you to see your reaction. It really didn’t help when Sean moved his arm from the top of the couch to your shoulders, pinning you to his side.
Once the movie was over Sean faced you with a wide smile on his face. “How was it?!” He loudly asked.
“Confusing.” You answered, trying to hide the fact that you couldn’t pay attention to the movie at all.
“I’ll explain it to you.” Sean said, before talking about the plot, characters and more you didn’t pay attention to because the way he was talking so passionately really made you want to study his face. Your gaze went from his hair to his lips to his neck, and you were glad that he was so focused on talking that he didn’t notice your wandering gaze.
“Do you get it know?”
“Um, yeah.” You lied, averting your gaze from his face. He laughed, a deep chuckle that you could feel in your very soul.
“You aren’t very good at lying y/n.” He teased. You frowned, you were always so afraid of lying to Ben that you just never did.
“I’m sorry.” Sean said, his happy demeanor turning sour.
“Stop apologizing, It’s not your fault.” You grumbled. “I’m going to take a nap, see you later.”

“Thank you Josh, this is just what I needed.” You closed your eyes for a while trying to calm your racing heart. When Josh said those things it affected you more than you thought it would. “How was your date with Amy?” You asked, glancing in his direction. His jaw tightened.
“Fine, I don’t think I’ll be seeing her again though.” He said, sighing. “She was not as nice as Tyler made her out to be.”
“I’m sorry, you don’t seem to have good luck with dates.” You said, leaning back in your seat. He mumbled something you didn’t understand.
“What?” You said, wondering if he was talking to you or to himself.
“Oh, nothing.” He said, “We’re here.” He pulled the car into a parking spot.
“Wow.” You said, staring out the windshield. “Wow.” You repeated looking to Josh with a wide smile on your face.
You were at the top of a hill, a solitary picnic bench sat in the middle. The view was the prettiest part; you could see the twinkling lights of your entire city. If it weren’t for the light pollution you were sure you would’ve seen more stars, but you could pretend the city was the sky.
You followed him to the picnic bench. He sat closer to you than he usually does, but you didn’t mind, it was cold out and you didn’t bring a jacket.
After a couple minutes of comfortable silence, Josh spoke up.
“I actually brought you here because I wanted to ask you something.” He said.
“Go ahead.” You said, turning your attention from the view to him.
“Would you… Go on a date with me?” He said quickly, clenching his fists. Your eyes widened.
“Yes!” You said, elated. “I’d love to!”
Josh breathed a sigh of relief. “Can I pick you up tomorrow at 8?”
“mmhmm.” You hummed. “I’m looking forward to it.” You could feel Josh fumble for something in the dark, and you realized he was looking to hold your hand. You smiled and grabbed his.
