Summary ⟢ You saw a TikTok trend where couples see how long it takes to lift eachother up in case of emergencies. So you decided you had to try that out with your boyfriend.
It was already late in the evening as you and your boyfriend Leon watched some random drama on TV. It wasn't all that interesting: cheating, crying and arguing, followed by a 'passionate' reconciliation. Quite repetitive.
Thus, you decided to scroll through TikTok whilst lying in Leon's arms. After watching a few mediocre TikToks, you stumbled upon an intriguing challenge. You watched as one of partners attempted to lift the other, the outcome of which was typically disastrous. Nevertheless, it was adorable and funny, so why not try it with your boyfriend, who is essentially twice your size? Great idea, right?
Suddenly, you got up and began moving the coffee table that was normally resting in front of the couch. Leon wasn't particularly concerned about your sudden need to supposedly refurnish the room; you had a number of peculiar habits, so he refrained from commenting.
Once the furniture was out of the way, you flopped down in front of the couch and gazed expectantly at Leon. He determinedly avoided your eyes. The man was no longer in his twenties and wanted to enjoy the tranquillity within the safety of his home.
"Babe, would you be so kind as to assist your stunning girlfriend on the couch?" You innocently asked.
"No need," he sighed as he looked at you. "You seem awfully comfortable over there," he added with a grin. Leon had absolutely no intention of going along with your eccentric behaviour today.
"Oh come on Leon! It's just a TikTok challenge!" You whined. Leon was trying to avoid those pouty eyes you threw at him.
"A Tiktok challenge?" He muttered, like he already regretted asking. "What is it this time?" He raised a brow as he glanced at you. "Playing dead?"
You scowled at him. "Of course not, you're supposed to lift me up on the couch," you casually informed him. "And then I'll lift you," you added smugly.
He snorted at that, "Okay, let's see how far you get."
Feeling yourself smile, you hastily tried to hide it so he knew you were serious. Leon decided to join you in your antics, just to humor you a little. He barely had to put in an effort to pick you up. One second you were on the floor, and the next you landed with a thud on the couch.
“Your turn, sweetheart,” he said with a wide grin as his own figure towered over you.
You watched as he lowered himself onto the floor, getting in position and spreading his body out like a starfish.
At first you tried to get him into the right position for a princess carry. You shifted his arms to rest closely next to his body and closed his legs. Next, you attempted to pick him up--key word being tried. You were only able to lift him slightly before your arms began to stiffen. Soon after that, they gave out, and you collapsed face-first onto his stomach, freezing for a second too long as you realised exactly where you had landed.
He let out a grunt at that. "Whoa, ask me to dinner first."
You just glared at him, a soft blush creeping onto your face. It was clear this wasn’t going to work, so you opted for a less elegant technique.
“Okay. I got this,” you mutter, rolling your shoulders like you’re about to get ready for a fight.
You grabbed his leg with both your arms and started pulling him towards the couch. He was slowly, but steadily sliding towards it.
“You’re really committing to this, huh?” he says, watching you like it’s a performance.
You stepped onto the couch and tugged at his legs, trying to haul him up. His lower legs ended up on the couch, which could generously be called progress, considering everything else still refused to move. It appears that gravity was not interested in helping you today.
You let out a frustrated groan. “Seriously, what do they feed you?” you asked, exasperated.
"What would I do if a fire broke out?" You asked yourself under your breath.
"Well, you certainly won’t be saving me," Leon snorted.
Right. Pushing and pulling wasn't going to work. However, you still had an idea in mind: The Fireman Carry. You began carrying out your foolproof plan.
Lying down next to him, one leg was hooked over his left, tangling your bodies into something increasingly questionable. A moment later, his right leg was crossed over yours as well.
Leon raised his eyebrow. "Are you trying to tie us in a knot," he asked amused.
You ignored his comment and continued your endeavor to rescue your boyfriend from the imaginary fire that was engulfing your house. The last step of this strategy was to pull him over your shoulder, so you started your final manoeuvre. Grabbing his arm, you pulled with all your strength, expecting resistance—only to feel his weight actually lift off the floor.
However, there was one issue that you failed to consider: An extremely muscular, fully grown man—twice your weight—was sprawled on top of you. His entire dead weight covering you, like a flawed depiction of Sisyphus if he had been crushed by the boulder instead.
At this point, you were already out of breath from trying to hoist your boyfriend. Inside of your ribcage, your heart was beating so fiercely that it felt like your body was working overtime. But this was just the beginning; getting up on your feet and moving forward was the real challenge.
With effort, you tried to push up onto your knees, legs straining under the combined weight.
Leon watched the attempt, mildly impressed. He hadn’t expected even that much. He assumed you wouldn't even be able to lift him at all.
"Well,” he chuckled softly, “what’s your plan?”
"Clearly, I'm already on my plan B, and there's no plan C. So give me some time think, Leon!" You scoffed half-heartedly.
After a few seconds of the two still unmoving bodies, he smirked.
"So... still no plan C?"
"Shut up, I'm concentrating." You groaned, still trying—and failing—to push yourself and Leon off the ground.
“Sweetheart,” he commented, “if this were an actual emergency, we’d be dead by now.”
He paused briefly.
“Not that I would mind. For better or for worse, until death do us part and all that, right?”
You shot him a sceptical look. “Leon, those are marriage vows…”
