Hello there. So you might have already gotten a million asks about this but I can't seem to find them so here goes: I'm very new to the kin community and what everything means and such. Is there things you could link me to/ explain some basic terms and such for me to better understand? If not that's alright to. Either way, have a lovely day!

ive seen the word passed around alot and i cant find the meaning online for kinning, what does inval mean?

Is it normal to feel really uncomfortable when someone starts to s//xualize a character you kin? My close friend often talks about the charcater I kin very innapropriately in DMs with me and I usually just feel really uncomfortable and gross. I’ll remind them on how I do kin this said character, then be given an “oops, my bad”, then later on the cycle just repeats itself. It worries me a bit, because they’re such a close friend of mine, I don’t really want to drop them..
This is less of a concern of what is “normal” in a fictionkin context and more about a repetitive violation of your boundaries. If you are uncomfortable with your friend’s behavior, they need to stop. You should talk to them and be genuine with your feelings on the matter and tell them that they cannot talk to you about something you are uncomfortable with and that you have repeatedly asked them to stop. If they are not showing respect to your boundaries and comfort, maybe they’re not a good candidate for such a close friend.
apparently quite a few communities outside of tumblr usually don't like the term "ID" - would you mind explaining the connotations behind the term? what would you suggest as an alternative way to say a kintype is an ID?
ID is short for identity, typically referring to a more intense kintype or one so interconnected to someone their sense of self is significantly impacted by this kintype on many levels.
if i’m not mistaken, it came from fictionkin tumblr. i don’t recall ever having seen it used before fictionkin tumblr blew up. i’m not familiar with any other kin communities, especially fictionkin. so, i’m not too sure what other terms you could use, apart from maybe “primary kintype” which is a lot more universal.

people from the same source as you. sometimes meaning the exact life you remember. i don’t recommend using that last one, though, for a lot of reasons.
hm. i used to think this character was a synpath for me, but i've been wanting to cosplay her & be like her a lot lately. i feel like the line is kind of blurred to tell if i think she /is/ me or just a part of me. i want to be her- but im not sure if that means i'm kin with her? i mean, i know that i can't be 100% her, but i still want to be as close as i can get! does that mean im kin?
i think it could be that you admire the character. if you feel like she is you, then you’re fictionkin. if you want to be like her, that’s liking her a whole lot.
I think I might be fictionkin, but I'm not 100% sure. My main concern is that other people I do know that are fictionkin might see me as a fake, and I don't want them to think that. I just feel uncomfortable, and I don't know what to do.
don’t worry about it. you can’t please everyone and it’s not really possible to be fake when it comes to fictionkin.
There is this character(E) that I already had a kind of same/my fave mentality with. Recently however I felt more familiarity within their typically depicted friend-group and actions than usual and in general a deeper mental connection with them. There was even an instance in which I was daydreaming but suddenly I saw a very normal situation which never happened to me. In that situation I was E and It fely VERY real to me for some reason. From what you heard up until now, wouldyou think I kin E?

hi! i wanted to ask if it was invalid or just not really normal to shift from one kin to another in a matter of minutes or hours? some of my friends shifts last for almost whole days and more but i shift so often, usually every few hours or even less. is that normal or am i going wrong somewhere¿
everyone has different experiences. you’re not going wrong anywhere.
Hey so is there a term higher than selfhood that isn’t just “Literally me”? I really like using kin terms to describe my kin rankings and I used to use Core until I learned that Core was coined by DID before the kin community started using it. Thanks!
not really, sorry. selfhood is the only one that comes to mind. thanks for caring enough to respect those of us with DID, by the way. not often you come by that.
Hey. I’ve been kinning a single character for a whole year now, and I’ve been receiving TONS of memories. One thing is, I remember an exact idea of what I look like, and for some reason, the internet likes to draw me in ways that aren’t what I actually look like, and really exaggerated to my stereotypes, and it’s a little offensive. Is it normal to be mad?
i might be the last person who can tell you what’s normal lol but i can get why it irritates you. i have some pretty vivid memories too and appearances pretty much never line up perfectly.

Is it ok to kin a character but not agree with some parts of the Canon story? Like før example if the character I kin had a relationship with another character but I don't feel like there was anything? Idk I'm not great at explaining things but I hope it made sense
absolutely, that’s very common. i don’t have any kintypes with complete compliance to canon.
Hello. Lately I experienced a few instances that I can only describe as a kin shift but fictkin? I don't really know how to say it. I'm new to this community and I apologise if I misuse any terms. But during those shifts I start acting, writing and thinking more like the character I kin, I miss people who are gone in the series he's from, I sort of perceive people I've known for years as strangers and it's not intentional. It's confusing me and I wanted to tell this to someone. Thank you. -🔥

On one of the fictionkin blogs I frequent, someone sent in an ask abt multiples? They didn't explain and im confused. I didn't know multiples was a term used by fictionkin or even otherkin.
