~Raccoon City Syndrome~
A short one shot!LeonXReader where you notice a strange black mark on Leons neck.
You unlock the door and enter the apartment to find Leon hard at work making dinner. The apartment is cozy. Neat and tidy, lit by the dim warm glow of lamps and candles. He’s stirring something in a pot as you walk up behind, wrapping your arms around him. All of the stress from your day melts away as you hug him. His shirt is soft against your cheek. He smells sweet and fresh, like citrus and honey.
You stand on your tip toes and place a soft kiss on his shoulder. Then another and another, working your way to his neck. You stop as something catches your eye. A fairly large black mark on Leons neck. You lick your thumb and try to wipe away what you thought was soot from lighting the fireplace earlier. He always hates when you do that. “What are you, my mother?” He usually says. “What are you doing?” He questions this time. “Did you get hit here?” You ask, lightly tapping the mark. Leons eyebrows knit together in concentration, really thinking it over. “Not that i can remember, why?”. “You have a big bruise or something right here.” You say, slight concern growing in your voice. You take your phone out of your pocket and snap a picture. “You really don’t know how you got this? It looks pretty bad Leon”. You say while showing him the picture. “No clue”. He says, still stoic as ever.
Leon receives several calls over the next few days. From what you can gather, other Raccoon City survivors have all been finding similar black marks on their bodies. You listen attentively to his side of the coversations youre present for. You hate that it sounds like the mark is something deadly. You dread that it sounds like he’s leaving to go on a mission to investigate. Your heart almost shatters when it sounds like he’ll have to go back to Raccoon City.
Raccoon City. The place where this never ending nightmare all started for Leon. He didnt like to talk about it much and you never dared to pry. You could tell it weighed heavily on him, a specter from his past still haunting him all these years later. You dont get over something like that. He still wakes up from nightmares about it every now and then. You dont ask for details. You just help him work through it, a reassuring touch, steadying breaths, and a shoulder to lean on. Having to step foot back in that city has to be his worst nightmare. Not only are you worried about whatever that mark is, you’re also worried about what going back will be like for him. Stepping into the remnants of hell, It certainty won’t be easy for him.
With his mission planned out Leon gets ready to depart. He has all of his gear and necessities packed and ready to go. The two of you stand in the door way in silence as he goes over his checklist one last time. You watch him check his bag and you bite your cheek to keep from crying. Its no use though. You know Leon hates seeing you cry but you just couldn’t help it. As he pulls you in for a hug you let your tears fall and tell him as sternly as you can muster “don’t die on me kennedy. I will be so pissed at you” your voice breaks despite your best efforts. He hugs you tighter. You break apart and look him in the eye. “Promise you’ll come home to me” you say softly. “Yes ma’am” he says just as quiet. You can tell he is hoping you hadn’t noticed that his reponse wasnt exactly a promise. Of course you noticed but you know he can’t bring himself to lie, so you let it go. You pull him down towards you and kiss him hard. Like you’re trying to tell him all the things you can’t or don’t have the strength to say. “I love you”. You choked out. “I love you” Leon said, voice uneven. It feels as foreign to say as it does to hear. you two very rarely say the actual words. You’re not those people. You prefer to show it more than say it but you felt like you had to say it in case this was your last chance. Something about this mission just feels different from all the rest.
Leon checks his watch and you know he has to hit the road. You give him one last kiss on the cheek and say “good luck and stay safe, okay?”. He nods and grabs his bag and heads to his car. You watch from the window in tears as he pulls away and heads towards the rubble of Raccoon City.
