that  caught  her  off  guard.    he  has  her  cornered  in  a  place  where  she  doesn’t  know  what  to  say  without  sounding  like  a  jealous  idiot.   (  she  is  jealous  and  she  is  an  idiot.  )    the  last  few  weeks  have  been  spent  brushing  him  off,  freezing  him  out,  and  hoping  he  still  comes  back      ———  and  he  does.  

she  will  admit  :  she  likes  their  little  back  and  forth.   what  she  won’t  admit  :  she  actually  likes  him.  

so  maybe  she  has  been  a  little  too  concerned  with  the  things  he’s  been  up  to  when  he’s  not  giving  her  his  attention.   how  he  found  out  ?   she’s  not  sure.   but  she’s  not  about  to  come  clean  about  it.

brows raised in a sort of surprise,   she wears a smile that probably shouldn’t be so proud,  but that mischevious,  trouble-seeking part of her just can’t help it.

GUILTY AS CHARGED.  had it been anyone else to catch her fib,  she probably wouldn’t be standing there in this display of attempted innocence,  guilty smile and all.   ————  she should have known better.   santana has never been one to fall for her antics or schemes and certainly not her lies.   she knows brooke far too well.  a blessing and a curse.  in this case,  she hates it. 

she’s not proud.   they’ve talked about this.  probably more times than santana has ever cared to.   her distaste for the boy-who-shall-not-be-named has always been made abundantly clear,  and yet ——

she has never been fully transparent with him about the boy who first broke her heart.   the one who set her expectations for love and painfully reminded her why she was afraid to ever be so vulnerable.   the one who made her vow to herself that she would never love so deeply or give so much of herself away again.

for a long time,  she kept her walls built high,  armored with steel and thorns.   there was no one she would allow inside.   relationships,   if they ever made it beyond a single night of mere lust,  were fleeting.   she was good at pushing people away if they got too close ———–

———-  until she met him.    was she afraid ?   of course she was.   despite her many attempts to maintain a certain distance between her heart and his,   he was annoyingly persistent.   but he offered her a love that she craved so much and she had never met someone who seemed to understand her the way he so effortlessly did.   

choosing to love him was a gamble.   she had everything to lose.  as it turned out, she was much luckier than she knew.   she finds herself content,  unworried,  and best of all   —-   loved in a way that has never felt so right.
