THE ARTIST
JACK AND THE BEANSTALK
Well, I'm a little nervous...
this dilemma had me devastated. when I first played through, I was so conflicted on how to get involved and what on Earth was happening that I ran out of time. Since then I've replayed over and over again and found some pretty terrible outcomes (wouldn't have it any other way). there are so many moving parts and people to consider, and in the middle of everything is poor Bo.
I can only hope I did it some justice with this. I may do a larger & more detailed version in a while. I'm very happy with the composition but not the poses.
I was feeling tired so I defaulted to painting a little portrait
The new Scarlet Hollow update and the fanart event made me dig up this WIP that I started 2 years ago. Phew!
What's going on through the head of my MC in the hospital scene? Read and find out!
the implications of a nonwhite scarlet hollow MC. rotating them in my head. like imagine growing up severed not only from the cruel white old money side of the family, but also entirely removed from your father who gave you the features which set you apart from the only family you have in the world. if the MC grows up without access to community and culture their main tie to their heritage would be, quite plainly, racist interactions. what the hell must it be like to go back and peer into the faces of the few local families who fit the bill and wonder if they might know who your father is. if someone can tell you where you're from and who you belong to. i'm holding your hands so tight rn btw
YES like I think about it bc textually, it's hard to imagine that the mc could not be white bc of the lack of race related context, which is fair, bc it's already hard to grapple with the story at hand.
but! it adds new context to the idea of you being the scapegoat, the outcast, the spare for tabitha to sacrifice to ascend to the throne. you're inheriting all of this shitty legacy, solving these mysteries, only to find out that it's all built on exploiting you. specifically, as a Black or Native American mixed protagonist, it's extra daunting learning what you inherit is built to suppress you.
plus, everyone being surprised you're The Scarlet makes some sense too being a mixed person of color, since all they've expected is the pale family up the hill. the loss of family hits harder realizing too, if your dad had been paid off to leave, drove away before she told him, or was just someone who couldn't be around what the family represents. and now you're stuck watching the racist mean horrid old aunt gonin the ground with the whole world seeming to end every day and a cousin who you're literally trusting with your life from a family of people who pull the trigger.
yes!! exactly!! and it'd be such a good parallel to kaneeka's storyline. it really complicates the Omelas parable to have the sacrificial lamb and fuel for the town's prosperity be a person of colour, especially Black or Native like you said. just get in the hole, Y/N, you'd be cut off from the outside world and your people but your captors would be so so nice to you. nothing but the same two faces for the rest of your life.
ermmmm he’s soooo fucking pixelated oops
i’ve never drawn anything so chibi and he’s not even that chibi
he looks so uncharacteristically joyful
they shoulda lezzed out! !!!
still some hades fanart

scarlet hollow playthrough…2!! I wanted to contrast monty and do just the most cursed playthrugh possible with the most self fullfilling tragedy protagonist and it did NOT disappoint <3
spoilers for ep 5 under the cut :)
Magical Girl Kaneeka design ideas: "The Reaper" and "The Spider".
some thoughts, including ep 5 spoilers, below:
evil intimidating yuri scene from memory haha
go play Scarlet Hollow, its mad good!
dues
Anyway I think more video game quests should make you uncomfortable and guilty and mislead you and corner you between a rock and a hard place and offer hollow victories. There's nothing more annoying than quest writing that scrambles to assure you that you're niceys and good and nothing you put your hand on can ever have negative consequences. "You cannot save everyone" and I cheer and whoop etc.
I played scarlet hollow for the first time…. hey why is die your daughter playing
episode 5 of scarlet hollow made me completely re-think most characters and their agendas, crazy good writing. decided to do a hardcore run to see more of the local drama and loved my hardcore protag even more than previous ones therefore, meet mal! call them hamlet the way they're gonna make their parental issues a problem for the whole town (ep 5 spoilers ahead)
