First time I’ve logged into this for two years. Oops.
september is coming up so here’s your yearly reminder to leave billie joe armstrong the fuck alone
Well of course. We don’t wake him up until October 1st.
His dad is dead, just don’t.
In case anyone reading my blog is unaware, this is a reference to the Green Day song titled “Wake Me Up When September Ends” a song that Billie Joe Armstrong wrote following the death of his father in September of 1982 when Billie Joe was ten years old. The title of the song references his desire to sleep through September in an effort to get some emotional distance from the death of his father.
He’s since been open about the emotional difficulty of having written the song since many people now message him on October 1st to ‘wake him up’ despite the song being a memorial to his departed father.
It’s generally seen as respectful to not try to wake him up. Let him sleep and let him remember his father in peace.
reblogging again because the end of September is coming up. leave him alone.
Reblogging as a reminder to leave Billie Joe Armstrong the fuck alone on October 1st and any day after it if your message is going to contain anything to do with “waking” him up because September will be over.
Updates resume July 8th
style test part…3? 4? I forget! anyway, here’s a short prologue for the guard pony comic, which I’m officially dubbing “Celestia’s Faithfuls” (tagged accordingly, feel free to block/savior it if you’re not interested).
still not sure if I’m gonna do the full thing, I wanna have it all scripted out and make sure it works first…but it’s kinda fun doing comics again, and I like how it’s turning out so far! disclaimer: there are no more saucy undressing scenes, sorry.
how i feel about octavia maestra skin in a nutshell
One of the prints I’ll be selling at cons this year! It’ll be an 11″ x 17″ print sold at EFNW, HRPC, and BronyCon!
A Poem:
it’s one Sentence long. how the fuck did the constitution-Fuckers miss the Second and Third words??
Oh, dear. Not this weak ass argument yet again. Okay. Fine. Let’s go over this one more time.
Pay attention, kiddos.
“The 2nd Amendment Only Applies To People In The Military Or A Militia!”
I’ll begin with a basic English lesson. Let’s take a look at the text of the 2nd Amendment, but slightly tweaked. Something like this:
‘A well balanced breakfast being necessary to the start of a healthy day, the right of the people to keep and eat food shall not be infringed.’
Now, based on this sentence, who has the right to keep and eat food? A well balanced breakfast? Or the people?
If you say a well balanced breakfast, you’re a damn fool. The founding fathers specifically wanted to protect the of the people to right to keep and bear arms. We know this because that is what they wrote. They didn’t write ‘the right of the militia’ or ‘the right of the army’ or ‘the right of the government’ or any other group other than the right of the people. It’s right there in plain English. This was later backed up and reinforced by the founding fathers in The Federalist Papers. I encourage you to educate yourself and read them.
But, hey don’t take my word for it. Let’s see what one of the most respected American experts on the English language has to say about it.
http://www.constitution.org/2ll/schol/2amd_grammar.htm
Oh, well would you look at that. He agrees that the 2nd Amendment is expressing that it is the right of the people to keep and bear arms, not the militia.
If this is somehow not enough to convince you, check out DC vs Heller.
In spite of the personal opinion of gun-control advocates, The 2nd Amendment guarantees an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home or in public.
Opinions do not trump rights.
It should also be noted that “the militia” is actually every able bodied citizen in the country and when The 2nd Amendment was written “well regulated” did not mean what it means today. At the time, “well regulated” simply meant to be in working order. To simply be functioning as intended. What it does not mean is heavily regulated by our government, which is what many gun-control advocates like to assume.
TL/DR - While edgy, your bullshit is simply just that. Bullshit.
Kindly quit your bullshit.
“How did they miss the second and third words!” says the person actively ignoring how the right is specifically for “the people”.
Yes. The right is for the people, including the ‘well regulated’ part. You don’t have rigorous regulation, and kids get shot, which also infringes on their very same right to the system being well regulated enough to keep them protected.
If you have an 18/19 year old lad with a legally purchased gun entering a school, guess what. It infringes on all the rights of those kids and teachers in the line of fire because the regulations aren’t up to standard enough to stop these things.
@therevenantrising. I’m frustrated because Tumblr won’t let me tag them, but their whole post doesn’t respond to OPs point one iota. Focus in their response was all on military, which wasn’t even something OP was referring to. As much as the term is overused theses days, this does appear to be a case of strawmanning. At least @siryouarebeingmocked is addressing the actual point made by OP, even if we do disagree.
I’d suggest stepping back before responding, recognise the person you want to reply to does not have the power to take away any of your weapons. A knee-jerk or passionate reaction is not required. You have time to think the response through, read and take time to properly understand the post you are reading, and maybe figure out ways to persuade OP, or any other potential readers. Getting overly defensive, and so emotionally driven that you don’t even respond to the actual points being made won’t help your cause.
What I’ve noticed happening a lot, since chiming in myself. The extremely pro-gun crowd have a habit of putting words in the mouths of those who are pro-stringent regulation. The impression is that we are probably more disliked than those who actually do want all guns, or all forms of weaponry banned. I guess gun-centrists are more threatening, since we want to find middle ground and a degree of compromise. I’ve personally been treated as though I’d see all Americans without their precious guns, but that simply isn’t true.
Rather, guns should be kept away as much as possible from children and teenagers. Full, strict background checks should be in place, with a focus on all health, not just mental. Should require taking safety courses, first aid, a licensing system similar to cars. Something needs to be done about these gun shows I keep hearing about, too.
I’ve heard regulation of ‘assault rifles’ is impossible because it’s a meaningless term. In that case, regulate by gun specs instead. Determine limits in performance, such as range and speed, then limit the sales of guns accordingly. No one needs a gun with hella range or hella speed or never ending mags.
When I adopted my dog, someone came around to my house to have a conversation, and to check we had and adequately sized garden for him. Same should happen here in which someone calls around to a person’s house, has a sit-down conversation. Inspects where the gun will be kept. Inspects non-lethal, passive forms of house/person defence that could and should be taken before gun ownership, so that guns are kept as a last resort measure.
Guns are highly dangerous tools, and should be treated as such. Owners need to be proven to be responsible, and if they are passionate about guns, and defence, and protection, then they should desire measures like these, because regulation is also about defence and safety, and ensuring people are protected by the second amendment.
Now, before responding, consider: I am not American. I am not a threat to your ownership in any capacity. I don’t want to take any good person’s guns away. I want guns and weaponry and the ability to harm or kill others to be treated in a respectful, carefully considered manner. The second amendment is clearly a balancing act between regulation to preserve people’s freedom to not get killed, and the freedom to protect one’s self in an emergency. There has to be some middle ground. There has to be some recognition that armed humans are dangerous.
Before responding, take a step back, and consider first whether it would be worth your time to. I’m not going to reply again, because the subject is honestly pretty tiresome, and I very likely won’t be swayed because I’m British and mostly (but not entirely) happy with the way in which my country handles guns. Not so much happy with how we deal with personal defence in general, but that would be broadening the issue to an irrelevant extent.
If you do choose to reply, I suggest it be for the purposes of convincing readers, and a feels before reals, sjw-like approach will not convince anyone.
I’m personally always happy to agree to disagree on complex, subjective issues like this one, to save on an unhelpful back and forth, but feel free to respond to get your own points across to anyone who might read and be convinced one way or another.
> The right is for the people, including the ‘well regulated’ part. Well-regulated militia. Please don’t try to defend OP’s cherry-picking with more cherry-picking. > You don’t have rigorous regulation, and kids get shot, which also infringes on their very same right to the system being well regulated enough to keep them protected. Murder has always been illegal. Murder, by definition, is a violation of someone’s rights, no matter what tool is used. >If you have an 18/19 year old lad with a legally purchased gun entering a school, guess what. It infringes on all the rights of those kids and teachers in the line of fire because the regulations aren’t up to standard enough to stop these things. Or maybe the cops should’ve done their jobs and kept him from buying a gun. >Focus in their response was all on military, which wasn’t even something OP was referring to. A militia is not a military. Did you actually look up the term and forget, or did you just assume? Some people interpret hypehenated words as a single word. And even if OP meant “well-regulated”, the noun it’s modifying is “militia”-
Wait, I just noticed. OP somehow used a version without a hyphen. >I’d suggest stepping back before responding, recognise the person you want to reply to does not have the power to take away any of your weapons. No, they just have the power to be a smug jerk on the Internet. So what? Do you think people’s opinions should be immune to challenge if they don’t have power? So why are you taking TRR to task, then? >A knee-jerk or passionate reaction is not required. TRR’s response seems like the opposite of a reflex action, and I’m getting “mildly irritated” more than “passionate”. Not that it’s at all relevant.
>You have time to think the response through, read and take time to properly understand the post you are reading, and maybe figure out ways to persuade OP, or any other potential readers. Hang on, let me just skim the rest of the post and see if you have any criticism of OP’s presentation, which was just a snarky one-liner for anti-gun in-group points which would be extremely unlikely to persuade people, unlike TRR’s detailed argument. Nope, didn’t think you would. You’re applying a transparent double standard here, but you think you’re right because you act calmly.
You’re not, you’re really not.
>I’ve heard regulation of ‘assault rifles’ is impossible because it’s a meaningless term. Wrong. The term in dispute is “assault weapon”. “Assault rifle” does have a defined term, but anti-gun people who don’t know what they’re talking about keep using it to refer to weapons that aren’t assault rifles, like the AR-15 and similar weapons.
Needless to say, gun folks object to this sort of mischaracterization. >In that case, regulate by gun specs instead. Determine limits in performance, such as range and speed, then limit the sales of guns accordingly. No one needs a gun with hella range or hella speed or never ending mags. Gosh, that sure sounds vague, with no evidence any of those features increase lethality. Especially since most criminal shootings are done with pistols. I’ve heard one is more likely to be beaten to death with bare hands than killed with a rifle, statistically. At least TRR was openly hostile. You are just patronizing and passive-aggressive.
I assume that’s why you put #FREEDOM TO SHOOT UP SCHOOLS in the tags instead of the post.
