Severance is unironically one of the greatest shows of this century; the cinematography, the characters, the screenplay, the symbolism, EVERYTHING ALL SO WELL DONEEEE.

it’s obvious that ben stiller knew exactly what he was doing when directing the show. like those symmetrical shots that symbolise the severed minds of lumon, or the colour grading of the hallways, designed to hit that cold, curious part of our brain and to SIT. US. DOWN.

something that also captured my attention was the contrast between the usual, soul-destroying routine and featureless workplace, to the final, where everything is chaos; the camera more shaky, and the obvious alarm going off, accompanied with this rushed music to make us feel more panicked.

not to mention the acting. everyone is just so perfectly monotone and dull and uniform; to the point it’s almost uncanny, and gives us this odd sense of uncomfort.

so uh yeah everyone watch the show it’s a 10/10.

One thing I love about One Battle After Another is that with Leo’s role as Bob is the protagonist and we follow him yet he basically does fuck all. Bob can’t remember the code words with his former group. He gets arrested so he can’t find his daughter that night. He can’t jump from the car, Sensei has to basically force him out. He misses his shot with the sniper rifle. He chases after the wrong car. Willa eventually saves herself when the bounty hunter turns on the white supremacists, and she shoots the guy hunting her down.

But it doesn’t matter because he eventually got to her and did the most important thing in being there for her, because the most important thing is that he’s her DAD, not that he’s some super awesome male action hero out for revenge or whatever. HE IS HER FATHER AND HE LOVES HER.
