This is exactly what I mean! A bit of a side note but there’s this one tumblr blog in the jjk fandom that I blocked because they post exclusively what they call “dark content” and is just non-con, incest and pedophilia among others and it’s so gross.
Like that’s not even what dark content is supposed to be. Dark content is supposed to be unromanticized looks at people in the since of mental health, trauma, gore, body horror, unhealthy and toxic relationships. Yes in all technicalities that means that pedophilia incest and non con fall into it but the whole point is that it’s not supposed to be romanticized and treated like it’s an ordinary thing. The genre of dark content is mostly used for coping mechanism and isn’t just something you request especially not when it’s of a sexual nature.
I’m of the opinion that people should write what they want as long as they aren’t hurting anyone and that content isn’t romanticizing something that shouldn’t be romanticized. Like write about murder but don’t condone it. Talk about sexual assault but don’t fetishize it or throw it into your plot to make it spicy. Don’t fucking write a teacher x student dynamic with a character who isn’t canonically a pedophile or regardless in general and don’t you fucking dare treat that as a normal or healthy dynamic. And so on and so fourth.
It’s just highkey toxic and fairly gross and I do not like it what so ever and the fact that there are people willing to defend and write it is just kind of sad. Sorry if this seems like a bit of a rant, I don’t want to start up drama but like as a fandom this is something the jujutsu kaisen fan-content creators and consumers need to acknowledge so it can be delt with now and continue to perpetuate and condone this kind of thing.
I know people say “fiction doesn’t effect reality” and first of all that’s incorrect as it does help people create biases, it does help people form opinions and it can help normalize extremely toxic behaviour. If you need anymore proof of that go look at the comment section of any “bad boy” wattpad story. Seriously it’s gross.
Stop writing student x teacher. Stop writing non-con. I get that those are kinks but unless it’s non explicitly in a bsdm context, both characters are over age and consenting adults with a safe word than shut the fuck up. Sit down. Stop it. Get some help.
