like every year, you’ve placed yourself at the head of diluc’s birthday party planning committee.
and like every year, diluc pretends not to notice you and adelinde giggling and scheming whenever he leaves the room. (it’s his house and he’s the darknight hero. not much gets past him.)
it’s not as if he feels the need to intervene. you know him well, and know how to plan a party to his liking. not overly gaudy or crowded, with good food, good drinks, and good people.
the guest list is always impressive. you - and by proxy, diluc - have made a lot of friends from beyond mondstadt the past few years.
you hug each one as they come in. the gentleman from wangsheng funeral parlour, the yanshang teahouse owner, the lord and lady of the kamisato clan, and the akademiya scribe, to name a few. diluc shakes each of their hands and thanks them for coming as he welcomes them into his home.
the traveler also makes an appearance. diluc greets she and paimon heartily, glad to see old friends.
at least until she mutters, “i’m sorry.”
he glances down at her, confused. “sorry for wh—”
“hey, girlie! wait up!”
he immediately stiffens when he glances up to see who’s called out to her, and you grab diluc’s arm, keeping him grounded and rooted in place when the fatui harbinger comes trotting up to him.
“master diluc, right?” he asks, grinning as if he isn’t seconds from death. “happy birthday, sir!”
“what is he doing here?” he demands, looking between you and the traveler.
you wring your hands tightly. “i— i just gave lumine a plus one, i didn’t think that she’d bring—” you look to lumine, who sighs.
“we’d just finished our weekly foray at the golden house and he just invited himself along…”
“that i did!” the harbinger grins, casually throwing an arm around her. “i’ve always wanted to meet the infamous diluc ragnvindr. you know the fatui still tell stories of the red storm?”
“i suppose i didn’t do my job if there are still people around to tell stories,” he scoffs.
“well, you did something right, because if it weren’t for you, i would have never gotten the eleventh seat!”
diluc can feel you fix him with a hesitant gaze. to this day, he’s only shared a fraction of what he’d done during his time…abroad.
the harbinger is lucky you’re here, keeping diluc’s hands away from his throat.
“don’t worry, master diluc!” paimon chimes in, obviously attempting to dissolve the tension in the foyer. “paimon will keep her eyes on him and make sure that he stays out of trouble!”
“you’ll be neck deep in mint jelly in a few minutes, don’t make promises you can’t keep,” the traveler scolds.
“don’t worry,” the harbinger says, holding his hands up in surrender. “if i wanted to do anything nefarious, i would have already. i’m just here for my girlfr—”
“you’re not my boyfriend.”
“not yet.”
“not even in your dreams.”
“like i said, not yet.”
diluc watches the two in confusion. what in teyvat was he seeing right now?
“excuse us,” you cut in, interrupting their bickering and smiling as you tug diluc away from the group and into the linen closet.
“are you okay?” you check, a deep frown on your face. “i’m really sorry, i didn’t think a harbinger would show up. i can kick him out—”
“it’s fine,” he tells you. “there’s no need to make a scene. it’s highly unlikely he would try anything here, surrounded by the knights, and with so many high ranking people around. and if the traveler trusts him…”
your nod is followed by an awkward silence, one diluc feels the need to break. “listen, what he said about snezhnaya–”
“diluc, it’s okay–”
“it’s not, i need to be honest–”
“no, you don’t,” you cut him off firmly. “i’m not going to make you tell me what you did, and i’m certainly not going to make you justify it. especially if whatever you did means that you’re here with me right now, celebrating your birthday and not– not buried under the snow somewhere in snezhnaya.”
he doesn’t think you’ve realized you’re crying, tears gathering on your lash line as you turn away. so diluc pulls you in, letting you cling to him, using his thumb to rub small circles across the back of your neck.
“let’s get out of here,” you mutter. “somewhere harbinger free, just for a few minutes.”
“where do you want to go?”
“every year i have adelinde set something up just outside the vineyard,” you admit with a small smile. “i know kaeya and venti drive you crazy sometimes, so i thought just in case…”
“that’s smart,” he smiles. you really have thought of everything. “should we really leave in the middle of my birthday party?”
the two of you collapse into a fit of giggles, diluc looping and arm around your waist and pressing a kiss to the top of your head.
"ready?" you ask as you grip the door handle. he nods, and you both run through the winery sneak away from the party and into the vineyard for some very much needed alone time.
BONUS
“oh no. oh no no no,” lumine mutters when mona introduces her to her plus one: a vahumana scholar from sumeru whom she’d been corresponding with as of late.
“something the matter, traveler?” scaramouche aka the balladeer aka wanderer, aka hat guy asks, sending her a smirk that she wants to wipe clean off his face. his amusement only grows when he sees his former coworker by her side.
“hey there,” childe greets. then, after staring rather shamelessly, “you look…familiar. have we met?”
sweet nothing ft the fushigojos to make up for the last fic i wrote for them heh
gojo satoru was not made for domesticity. this has always been something you've known, something you've accepted.
you're just not sure that he has.
it's a little past midnight when he trudges into your bedroom, tired lines creasing his pretty face as he shuffles around the room. he greets you with a quiet hey, and a peck on the forehead before stripping off his uniform, tossing it into the basket with a little more force than necessary.
you raise a brow at him, but stay quiet as he stalks into the bathroom. in the years that you've been together, you've learned better than to back an emotionally repressed sorcerer into a corner and force him to say how he's feeling. especially one who’s just gotten back from assignment.
you try and fail to return to the novel you were reading, staring blankly at the page until gojo steps out. his hair is damp, a towel slung low around his waist as he digs around in the closet for underwear.
there’s no pageantry, no winks or eyebrow waggles or light teasing of, like what you see? stuff that would usually make you roll your eyes, but that you suddenly realize has been missing lately.
okay, something is definitely wrong.
so you shut your book, placing it on the nightstand as he crawls into bed next to you. he says nothing, simply reaching across you to flick off your lamp and plunge the room into darkness.
it’s with a heavy sigh that he rests his head in your lap, grabbing your hand and plopping it into his hair before hugging your legs.
"i can't go to okinawa with you guys tomorrow.”
“satoru,” you can’t help but frown, carding your fingers through his hair. “we’ve been planning this trip for months.”
“i know, i’m sorry,” he says, strained. “you should just take the kids without me. take shoko, or something. megumi’s already stocked up on his spf, and tsumiki was really looking forward to picking seashells—”
“satoru,” you interrupt when you catch his voice break. “are you— are you okay?”
he’s crying, you realize when he doesn’t respond, instead pushing his head deeper into your lap, muttering, “no.”
“talk to me,” you murmur, smoothing your hand down his spine.
"i don't want the kids to think that i didn't want to go."
"you've been talking about seeing me in a bikini for weeks, i think they know how badly you wanted to go."
your comment pulls a small laugh out of him, but it's still interrupted by a sniffle.
"what's this really about?" you ask softly.
"i've been...missing things lately," he mutters quietly. "little league games, piano recitals, science fairs. i leave before they're awake, i get back when they're about to go to bed."
sorcerers who are referred to as 'the strongest' don't get days off. they go where they're needed, when they're needed.
"you know they don't hold any of that against you."
"i know," he says, sitting up to look at you. "but i don't want them - or you - to feel like i'm not choosing you. because i would, but i can't. and i'm just tired. of all of it--"
you wrap your arms around him when his voice breaks once more, pulling him into a hug. he reciprocates immediately, hiding his face in the crook of your neck as he releases a shaky sigh.
"it's not just about being there for the big things," you murmur. "it's about...being there when they need you to be. i can't hit a baseball to save my life, so you're the one who takes them the park to practice. you're the one who taught tsumiki how to read sheet music, and found a way to explain the concept of infinity to a ten year old so he could win the science fair."
without him, there would be no little league games, piano recitals, or science fairs to attend.
"besides, we can always go on vacation some other time," you assure him, rubbing circles across his back. "it's not worth it if you're not with us."
_____
satoru wakes to the sound of muffled laughter. a quick glance at the alarm clock on his nightstand confirms that it's 7am.
the lack of warmth pressed into his side tells him you're up too. it's rare that anyone is awake before he is, especially on weekends or days that he's set to depart. he can hear bits of your conversation with the kids as he gets ready for the day, changing into his uniform and shoving clothes into a bag.
"what shape should i try to make?" he hears you ask. ah, you must be making pancakes.
"a heart!" tsumiki suggests.
"japan!" megumi argues.
he knows you're going to make both. you're doing so when he saunters onto the scene, humming along to whatever song tsumiki's put on the record player as you drop chocolate chips into the batter.
he sweeps your hair away from your neck, dipping his head down to press a kiss to the nape of your neck.
then he turns to the kids, who are in the process of setting the table. "did, uh, you guys already talk about okinawa?"
tsumiki nods, but megumi just shrugs, wrinkling his nose. "there are a lot of jellyfish there anyway."
he of course goes on to inform everyone of the different kinds of jellyfish and all the horrible ways they could kill you. tsumiki chimes in to say that they won't attack unless they're bothered.
you press a mug of coffee into his hand, standing on the tip of your toes to kiss to his cheek before joining the kids at the table with a plate of pancakes.
the scene that unfolds in front of him is a simple one, but one that he's dreamed of all his life. a family sitting together for a meal, laughing and chatting about things that don't really matter.
the world's always going to need him. but this? this is all he needs.
because gojo satoru wasn't made for domesticity, but for his family? he'll try.
Me, @ a player about to play Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the first time: The romances are all directly tied to the game’s worldbuilding and themes and their own unique ways, but whoever you choose, for the most part, won’t directly impact or detract from your experience with the game’s main narrative. I of course have opinions on which romances I think are better than others, but you very much have freedom to choose here.
Me, @ a player about to play Fire Emblem: Awakening for the first time: *gripping them by the shoulders* Listen to me. Listen to me very closely. If you decide to marry Chrom, you have to understand that you are signing up to play a completely different game. This may be a choice that will haunt you for the rest of your life. And this is a decision you have to make before you hit that start button. I can’t elaborate any further. Do you understand?
no explanation needed. the man has a bunch of pseudo legendary dragons and regal looking dark types. hydreigon, garchomp, corviknight (named mephisto of course) houndoom, umbreon, and his ace is the scariest looking mega absol you've ever seen.
yuuji: fighting/random cute ones
the man has fighters like machamp and annihilape (named sukuna), but also cuties like clefairy, sylveon, and a wigglytuff that he refuses to part with. his ace would have to be a lucario though!
as a middle blocker he'd have pokemon with high physical defence but high special attack to predict their opponents moves. i think he'd have a bastiodon, steelix, girafarig, and his ace would be a metagross!
hello it’s so wonderful to see you again! for your game may i ask for kenma please >.<
hello!!! thank you for stopping by ☺️
kenma: normal/psychic
even though he comes off as a pretty calm and reserved person, the man is a setter and always thinking! this team has you figured out before you even step on the court. cinccino, persian, alakazam, and his ace would absolutely be an espeon.
Wriothesley! I know he would love his pokemon team so much
wriothesley: ice/dark
the man would have the prettiest ice type pokemon (who adore him and that he treats like princesses) like glaceon and aurorus. and they're joined by the most menacing dark types like weavile and sharpedo. as for an ace i think he would have a zoroark (evolved from a zorua who popped in and out of his life after he ended up in the foretress)
anyone who battles her is gonna get their shit rocked by mienshao, lucario, toxicroak, and her ace, gallade! (i would be shaking in my boots if i were the zenin clan)
okay i am here to feed the fixation. navia and caleb. ignore the fact that you literally just made that post....
navia: steel/fairy
she would have a small but tanky physical and special defense team that would have you pulling your hair out... she'd come at you with mawile, magearna, and her ace tinkatuff (will randomly show up with zacian one day)
caleb: flying
a little on the nose but omg imagine him in the sky flying alongside his team 🥹 staraptor, togekiss, corvinight, latios, and his ace, a flapple (evolved from an applin that mc gave him...)
i am a luxray girl through and through....sinnoh pokemon in general have a special place in my heart (all the starters, the evo lines for starly, buizel, and riolu, glaceon) THE LIST GOES ON
honourable mention to dragapult tho i love that little ghost dragon so much
