i took this photo on one of the first rolls of film i ever shot, back when i was newly fifteen and just a freshman in high school. pictured is my best friend at the time, sara, while on a week-long class trip to big bend national park out in west texas. it was my first time seeing the desert, the trip that started my love affair with the southwest. this was taken in sara’s room at the resort they put us up in for one night in the middle of the week-- the rest of the nights we slept in dusty cabins or under the stars.
