PERSPECTIVES
1/5 Happiness
I have had this post in my mind since the year started but I just did not get the chance to seat down and finally write it, but better late than never right?
so here it is, It is a New Year(relatively) and you started the year with a lot of expectations and goals. Some you may have started achieving others not and lets face it, others you have already dismissed as bygones and you will follow them up new year. This is a familiar pattern that I know too well and believe you me you are not the first person to do so and nether will you be the last one.
We all have set objectives and due to our lifestyles we might or might not achieve them. Here is the thing though, I DO NOT THINK IT IS LATE TO START OVER. The year has 12 months and we are practically down to the second one headed to the third one. It is not difficult to do what you set out to do but one needs to put in the time. Be it at the gym, work, relationships one thing that we need to find is the will do so and once we starting the necessary steps, the habit will soon turn into a disease hence becoming a positive effort.
I have come up with a list of 12 pointers to guide me through the year and I hope you may be able to take away a thing or two from these points.
1. Consistency
This means that you need to just do what you set out to do but on a daily basis. through practice can one perfect whatever skill. For me, I have a business and I have been up and down in my production. So I have decided this year to keep it consistent. Whatever the circumstances I will keep it going. I find that once one sets a target for themselves then they can be able to follow it through.
2/5 Mr Consistency
2. Show Up
In whatever you do be present. Opportunity presents itself only if you are there and available. It is on very rare occasions that opportunity comes to get you at home. Show yourself, get out there let people know you are there and believe me the results will speak for themselves. Do dinners, cocktails, events, concerts, shows because you never know who you might meet and the opportunities that they may present to you.
3.Let Go
I find in life sometimes letting things go opens one up to new perspectives that were not seeable because of the baggage one carries from before. Trust in yourself and others and you will see a difference. Letting go does not mean giving up but it shows trust in the universe. Try it and you ill not be disappointed.
4.Believe in Your Passion
As an Entrepreneur I have a lot of dark days and self doubt over the years but what has kept me afloat is the power to always keep on coming back. I have never held an office job and hence this has made me more persistent and I have only experienced self employment so I cannot speak from any other aspect but best believe it has not been easy, there have been the dark days which made me want to just quit and get a regular 9-5. Hang in there, because the dark days make the brighter days that much worthwhile.
3/5 Believe
5. Share Ideas
Knowledge I believe grows when shared and when is spoken about. We do all have ideas but we need that extra step to actualise them but what makes us not turn them into reality? some ideas are good some bad, some average but it needs one to share wit with people. Share and bounce ideas of people, this helps to develop the ideas further and get weaknesses in what you have planned. Things sound really interesting when you think about it but how do they actually sound when they are said out loud? I am a believer in saying your plans and ideas and not being too secretive, this way you are able to get feedback from people you trust so that you can better further your ideas. This point is closely linked to the next one because one needs a trusted net to do this.
6. Keep Friendships and Networks
The older one becomes the tighter the nets and friendship become because less and less friendships are acquired. When one is younger there are much more opportunities to make friends for example in university one can make so many friends either in class or in extra curricular activities. This however is not the same in the “adult” life. We wake up and the day just runs by, either at work or at our business ventures, it is really flies but of utmost importance is to keep your friendships and networks going. These are the people who ground you and tell you as it is. They have known you the longest and they are not scared of telling you the truth.
7.Read
I find this an important aspect of personal growth either in ones personal or professional life. There is no topic in this world that has not yet been written about and by reading you have the chance to advance your thinking. You are not alone in whatever path you want to take. So pick up a book, research and engage your mind.
8.Keep an open mind
With the advancement of the internet comes the broadening of horizons. Do not limit your opportunities to a certain locality because your idea can resonate with someone even in the other corner of the universe. So this year be wild, go free and `think big and wide.
4/5 Open Minded
9.Meditate
This is something that I would like to also pick up as the year goes because I do find as much as the world can get hectic, one needs to be able to slow down and put things in perspective. You are your own boss and the driver of your destiny, without proper grounding then you are lost. So this year when the world around you gets hectic take a seat and relax. Recharge, reevaluate and I promise you that you won't regret it.
10.Participation
i find that in whatever field one is in, they need to be alive participants in it. No man is an island. One needs to surround themselves with like minded people or people in the same field. Here you get insights and realise that you are not alone in the struggle. As a designer, meet up with other designers participate in designer centred meet ups or events. This will give you that extra kick to move to the next level.
11. Family
Always keep your family close. I know t seems rather obvious but I have noticed the busier I become the less I become involved in family activities. The family is the most basic element and important unit in ones life and I feel family time is always better than not having it. They might be annoying at times but this is just family being family.
12. Positivity
I left this for last because I think its the most important concept in my life. In whatever one does an optimistic mindset will take you even further. the universe reacts to our needs and desires and if you are positive then the positive vibes will be with you. reflect what you desire and you will see the results.
5/5 Positive thoughts bring positive rewards.
With this said I do hope that I have injected in you the kick you need to push through the year and achieve your goals.
P.s This is just my two cents so hopefully it helps.
Love and Light,
Emo
