Q6 of dental school yey

soo, finals are coming up in a couple weeks and like every quarter, i know that it’s going to be insane..

aside from that to look forward to, i passed a SRP (scaling + root planing) test case this week with a patient who was so accommodating and fun to work with. now i can use the ultrasonic scaler yeyey

Was in Oral Surgery block today and got to extract 3 teeth on my own on a somewhat anxious patient. (good thing he had no idea it was my first time :D) 

2nd year is like working and being a student. End result = exhaustion. I try studying on my bed and then fall asleep without getting ready. Wake up in the middle of the night and try to study some more--usually end up just falling asleep anyway. 

Clinic, despite going into it with the thoughts of caring for my patients, has been a rough transition.. like calling patients who don’t respond, dealing with axium (software for clinic), and working with faculty who all have a different idea of what’s important and not to mention, personalities. Though it’s getting better, it was not a good feeling 5 weeks ago, when I wanted to treat/bring in patients and had no idea how.

Hopefully I can cram in some reading and studying before class tomorrow.

Finally made it to fourth quarter! 

Got to shadow a 2nd year extract 12 teeth from an elderly spanish speaking patient. got to talk to him and reassure him in my somewhat broken spanish. it’s a really wonderful experience, when you realize all the work you’ve put into dental school is going to be put in use in about four months. new goal is to become fluent enough that i can work with spanish speaking patients in clinic for 2nd year :)
