Help Hunter, a Transman in TX, Get Life-Saving Top Surgery
https://gofund.me/8dc56adc
My name is Hunter, and I’m a 34-year-old Black transman living in Texas. I’ve been on a long journey toward becoming who I truly am, but today I’m reaching out because that journey is at risk of being stopped in its tracks.
With former President Donald Trump winning a second term, I’m fearful for myself and for so many others in the transgender and non-binary community. He has promised to revoke President Biden’s policies on gender-affirming care—lifesaving support that includes everything from counseling to medical procedures. Trump plans to cut all federal support for gender transition care at any age, even going so far as to block federal funding permanently for all gender-affirming procedures. If he succeeds, people like me may be left without any options for safe, supportive care.
I’m currently without health insurance after being fired from Amazon, where I was transferred and then let go after reporting a manager to HR for outing me as transgender to the entire nightshift management team. In my red home state of Texas, this climate has only intensified my fears. I worry about facing harassment or worse simply because of who I am and the path I’ve taken. Top surgery is not just a medical step; it’s a crucial part of my journey that allows me to live authentically and with dignity. Without it, I risk not only physical and emotional hardship but also the potential dangers of public discrimination.
Why I Need Your Help Now
Inauguration Day, January 20, 2025, is fast approaching, and the time to schedule top surgery is running out. I am asking for help to cover the cost of surgery and the essential aftercare medications, which, without insurance, comes to around $8,000. This procedure is not just a medical necessity; it’s a lifeline, a chance to live freely and safely as myself.
Your support, no matter the amount, would mean the world. It would bring me one step closer to safety, to self-acceptance, and to a life unburdened by the fear of losing access to vital, gender-affirming care.
If you cannot donate, please consider sharing my story. With every share, you help bring awareness to an issue impacting countless transgender and non-binary people who fear for their future. Together, we can make a difference—ensuring that people like me don’t lose the right to be who we are.
Thank you for reading, and thank you for any support you can offer.
