Danish Fin Fin TEO ad from "Privat Computer 12 (1997)"
Fujitsu is the world's second largest IT manufacturer and currently the third largest in Denmark. Fona was one of the first to market Fujitsu computers in Denmark, and so far we have reached more than 15,000 satisfied customers. It is important for us to always be able to bring the latest technology to market before others do. We are therefore delighted to be the first in Denmark to present a game based on artificial intelligence. “Fin Fin” offers many hours of entertainment and may well become your children's new best friend. Come into Fona and find out more.
On the distant, magical planet TEO lives Fin Fin. Your task is to befriend Fin Fin. But be aware that he is wild and a bit shy. The more you teach him - the more you get out of the program. Including flute and microphone. Introductory price 399; Fin Fin has cost more than 70 million dollars to develop, and in Japan has sold more than 10 million copies. Fin Fin has its own website - visit www.finfin.de.
come and see him... so many of him...
During E3 '98, Fujitsu announced a TEO spinoff called "BioPunX".
It never released and the trademark was abandoned in 2002. Very little evidence of this game exists beyond a few publications.
"The latest product that is intended to appeal more to men is the computer game " BioPunX "."
- Wirtschaftswoche - Volume 52, Issues 46-49 - Page 116 (1998)
"This is a simulation program, featuring four "BioPunX" creatures. Each has a unique personality and attitude. The idea is to train them so they can complete a mission. Not yet reviewed."
- Complete Sourcebook on Children's Software (1999 and 2001)
"...a new generation of games in which artificial creatures save the earth in 3D animation. Anyone who wants to can even communicate with the "Biopunx" using voice recognition."
- DIE WELT: Mehr Glück im Computerspiel (27.08.1998)
In 1999, Fujitsu Interactive went out of business. However, Shigetoshi Akasaki, the president of Fujitsu Interactive, announced that the game was still being worked on in a GameSpot article a year later.
Two years after this announcement, the "BioPunX" trademark was officially abandoned.
In 2013, the rights to "Biopunks" and "Biopunx" were acquired by some German lawyers who have held onto it ever since.
This wasn't really Fin Fin related but I just wanted to talk about this because nobody has compiled info about this game anywhere else.
A BIOPUNX SCREENSHOT HAS BEEN FOUND!
"Fujitsu also presented its software developments. A new version of the virtual pet FinFin was announced, and at the same time, the company's next-generation artificial life application BioPunX was demoed. The BioPunX community of several 3D animated virtual characters applies Fujitsu's own A-LIFE artificial intelligence model in an unprecedented way. The "owner" of the group of characters communicates with the characters either via email or speech recognition, and the characters' skills and personality develop as the owner assigns them tasks. The program will be released for commercial distribution in Europe sometime next spring." - Mikrobitti (1998)
"Fujitsu announced BioPunX, a program in which the player must genetically modify and train the BioPunX creatures until they can save the world. Interaction is via e-Mails and speech recognition. But they also develop their own activities. They play basketball, listen to music, or watch TV in a three-dimensional landscape." - PC Games (1998)
Fin Fin Goods in Jugemu Magazine (September '96 and October '97)
On New Years Day 1997, NHK aired a special with Fin Fin saying "Happy New Year". It's listed in NHK's archives, but cannot be viewed.
Although no footage from the special is available, there is a short clip of Fin Fin saying "Happy New Year" from finfin.de

In August 1996, Fujitsu announced a music label named "fin fin".
This label mainly released CD's in the "Eberouge" series.
In 1997, fin fin also started releasing a series of classical music CD's.
New photos of the other classical CDs have been found. Currently, none of the CDs have been archived.
