I think I’ll spend my whole life processing my whole life
One of those days where I’m drifting in a liminal space where
There is more space and time to myself than I would like
When it is not occupied by something - what is there?
I need an atmosphere to feel positively - or maybe feel that it is alright not to feel positively. Perhaps my clutch of feelings are a comfort?
I wasn’t going to come out today but I found myself wanting iced coffee. The nearest barista cafe is a 15 minute walk from my house. I made the trip quickly enough. Today my mood is singing in an indoor voice.
Saying I’m exhausted doesn’t mean quite much since I say it nearly everyday. The space I’m trying to fill with work, with meaning, is just to justify that my existence means something. But when there is space, what then?
I miss community. Home. Family gets so lonely. There’s that that I find in slices of local bistros. The kind smile and gentle service of the middle aged waitress. Like family can be so gentle. Like she talks the same way to her kids. Like sitting there waiting for my madeleine I can find peace.
How did I get so lost
Get snuffed out when I had the brightest light?
How is this it? This dead end
dreamscape #109
woke up dreaming of
running down a shallow hill
the pavement wide enough so cars wouldn’t knock me over running
to that care centre for old people i knew when i was a child because
my mother was housed there for two weeks after giving birth to my sister
and i always noted the black framed front even though
i had no idea about anything else. what birth was what she was doing
in a vacuum somewhere doing sacred things
i was running down the shallow hill to instead a bakery and the line was long
i had done something wrong but it seemed so old, so past
i was carrying the guilt of knowing even as i had grown past where it halted me
in line for scones, whatever there is left
i bent down to pick up
two scones from the baking tray cupboard but
the one i wanted was gone
instead i pretended like nothing had happened and shrouded my disappointed in my usual habit
and picked up two from the remaining ones. one of them
broke in half - not my fault
i immediately cut it in half and started slathering butter into it, as you do
even though it was broken in half the other way around
and i ate, i wanted to eat
the shop keeper cashier pointed to the screen behind the counter
which pulled me up and she said, look it
that’s you that’s your doing
and the thing that felt wrong came back
on the screen was evidence that i had tried to text Desmond for a text message fee
or donate some small money
and it said that he was dead
so this is not possible
if i proceed with trying to do this, denise - or someone else with such a name - will know
and that was what i hated the embarrassment
that all this time i was trying to contact a dead person
who died and i felt like that was my failing
not that he was gone or i killed him
but that i was incompetent enough to ever think i did not care for him
didn’t love him
that none of this would affect me at all when i am all but reaching out to ghosts
look at me
and the living world would know and this is embarrassing
running down shallow hills
spirals that lead to modern set roman ruins
chipped concrete and 70’s gates
with mr prasad explaining to me what dramatics were
i am on the ground i already know i just feel terror, watching
all this in the morning
bread after noon.
I think it’s telling that in this pandemic I’m comfortable with and happy about the normalisation of eating alone outdoors, or eating with just one other person instead of being pressured to meet in a group. While I do miss festivals and events honestly I can get used to the privacy wearing a mask gives me and it being so normal to eat outside alone like it’s the most liberating no one has to question your solitude imagine this freedom
I’m so wrecked
I don’t even know why
My sense of space time and identity fluctuates faster than electrons vibrating where am I even today?
Why do I have such a visceral reaction to emptiness? To space? To the change of it? To the lack?
The sun promised it was coming but maybe it was all a lie.
What lies for me in the sun but desert?
This is how I fall in love. Venus in Virgo.
When you insist to be my regularity. My
everyday
When you insist to be a constant, even when lava was still running fresh down my sides, tectonic
plates of my whole world migrating
When it’s so mundane; small things
by the beach, cycling
Each one of them mundanities like a falling star I collected in my pocket
inconspicuously filling up this jar
like grains of salt on the counter top
Who knows from whence they came? And yet they flavour everything ; the dishes I make on a weeknight, my candle’s flame, rubbed on a wound, salt scrubs in the shower over my heart, my heart, to replace the ones that fall out of my eyes, as you leave unbeknownst
that everything already reminds me of you.
It’s unbelievably pretty. All the trees are flowering. All of them saying look at me. Look at you. Calling us to each other. From far away between concrete walls didn’t you hear us? And now you’re here.
Our small existence
I need space to be
I’m sorry I brought the sadness in with me
Like something the cat dragged in
Sorry I met
with someone I’m unbecoming
Something solid has risen in me
looking down at the tragedy that falls all around me
there always seems to be
tragedy around me, the shade of it
passing like a breeze over this house
I always feel sorry when they visit
- this family being so rich -
and see them as ghosts
Tragedies that I’m past, that never
happen to me, I worry against jealousy
And the ones meant for us
always seem to fit the shape of my body
Gentle, craning, crooning
tears as a waterfall
that shape the deep ravines that feed our forest.
And I’m too much of a mess to much about this, much about anything, I’m too broken to find it in me to make excuses, my cracks are the way they are, and there has to be something human about forgiving yourself for the things you can’t help doing when you’ve been stuck in the same shape you’ve contorted yourself into to keep yourself safe that now became your cage it’s called compassion, the thing you do when you forgive yourself for these things and open the gates, it’s called compassion.
Will we still want each other when we have freedom?
At last, at last, The honey-light of March returns, and I am awake again at last
// Part 25
What I fear most is settling. For this job. Settling. For light-headed mundanity. Never reaching my true potential.
That word. All of the spikes and snark in me gone unnoticed. I speak in soft-toned silences. Or maybe I don’t know myself and don’t speak the same way I think at all. There are teeth in me. Teeth having a good time to show off. Teeth, getting placated. In my office chair today I scream down a yelp of frustration through my throat. I don’t want to be blunted.
Wild and free.
I can be so polite under the appropriate influence that coats this whole city. This placating smooth smile. Sunflowers. All the time. Like there is nothing sharp in the room. Nothing poignant to see.
Everything glazed over. Like if I don’t say it it won’t be. Why do we remain so silent? The rottenness of the world runs on this. Placatory silence.
I am angry. Simmering. I fear I will always be angry. Fear I will always be coasting, meek. Mute. Settling. The desperate and downtrodden are like this. Power hungry for their own voice back.
I wonder what I did
To deserve this.
I fought and rose through ranks and you’ve never failed me quite so much as you have on the recent scale.
I fear I will be forever pure.
I want edging. I want more. I want the glory accorded to me of what the capacity of my soul is owed.
Love is not a robot.
Science is not it.
I fear my traumas will forever be lodged in me as the incompetency of other people borne by one person. I fear I will be a prisoner forever. I fear the sun will never rise on my time. And we are all so polite, forever, as the body grows old and dies.
No one saying anything that mattered.
