I am such a huge fan of how you drew cake's kiddos, it fits them so well and their designs are so creative and so good!!! I have to ask though, how did you come up with the name Tango? (I was trying to pinpoint who was who, and I am stumped on Tango in particular!! I'd love to see your thought process on everyone though :D)

Jake Jr -> Cake Jr: I don't think cake is part alien in this??? so I wasn't sure how to translate jake jr's wrinkle face. I went with the mystery kpop demon hunters route and covered their face. since jake jr was the most rainbow one and m-cron as a human is very goth/punk, I figured cake jr would take after him in that regard. their tail is supposed to look like a scene kid raccoon tail keychain lmao

Kim Kil Wan -> Ahn Sae Rom: apparently kim kil wan is named after Gilhwan Kim, who founded Saerom Animation which is the korean studio that animates for adventure time (and most western animation) so I changed it to SaeRom Ahn(imation). Maintained the strict business thing from KKW. since KKW looks most like jake, I wanted to make ASR look most like cake

Viola -> Dulcimer: name is cause jake plays the viola and cake plays the hammered dulcimer. Viola is usually drawn wearing 50s-60s fashion, so I went that route. Gave them M-Cron’s long face from their human design

Charlie -> Tango: Charlie has kind of a hippy/spiritual thing goin on??? does tarot readings and lives with mummies. I thought about keeping the name as Charlie but changed it to Tango cause it's another name in the NATO alphabet

TV -> VHS: TV is a #gamer so I wanted to keep that. Did a calico thing? the garfield reference felt relevant

It’s so fascinating how Fionna flashes to the Winter King’s decayed face before she tries to kiss Hunter. Like, one would assume that a potential crush reminding her of the whole Winter King debacle will be something that will put her off kissing them. In both a “what if he’s so nice because he’s another insincere manipulative dickweed?" and in a "what if I mess it up again and hurt people?" manner. But instead the framing implies this was her incentive to trying to make out with Hunter.

I wonder if it was just… pure self-destructiveness. Kissing him because she already assumed this relationship is doomed and she wanted to enjoy it while she could, and/or hurry the inevitable end faster to get it over it.

Until she remembered that she won't just be hurting herself, but Hunter as well.

I can’t believe I haven’t seen anyone else point out that this is a direct parallel to “The Wild Hunt”, where Finn saw Fern’s face (who he recently unwillingly killed) over Huntress Wizard after they kissed:

I had always interpreted this as “dooming” their relationship, at least until Finn could get over his trauma. My guess is they’re using this visual element again as a way to imply that this isn’t the right moment for them to be together?

I’m so fucked up about simon. His character arc in the main series was set up that ice king becoming a simon again was inevitable. It wasn’t a matter of if, but when and how.

but now that it’s happened, it’s the worst thing that could’ve happened to him.

he had friends! a special secret club of wizards he had matching rings and would go on roadtrips with! he wasn’t even really a problem anymore!

betty’s character is so fantastic. she traveled through time for him. She went insane for him. She become a god for him. But him being Simon was easier for her. Did she ever truly consider if it was what he wanted? She’s not even there with him. She’s not there and now he’s Simon and he’s more isolated than ever.

He lives with humans! At this point, Finn has known him longer as Simon than he knew him as Ice King. Ice King is just an old memory now. But Simon is over a thousand years old. “Simon Petrikov” is just an old memory too. He’s human again, but not really.

What’s worse is how smart he is. He’s an intelligent and emotionally competent man. So he really, truly, profoundly knows how deeply fucked up his life is. He’s so aware of it.

wouldn’t it be easier? If he was stupid and naive and magical? does he miss magic? maybe not ice, but magic itself? would he try to learn? Does he remember the password to Wizard City? Would they even still let him in? there’s a school. He could learn magic again. but would he? Doesn’t Simon Petrikov like learning about magic?

Everything Stays. He’s still here. But he’s different now. Everything is different now except it’s not because the world stayed the same and he’s the one who changed. He can’t go back. Except he did, in a way, and it wasn’t even his choice.
