Yes that’s right! There is a way to make the Sims 3 run faster!

Nitromon over at Mod the Sims has found a program that allows you to ‘unpark’ your drives- allowing your game to take advantage of more of your CPU.

Used in combination with Overwatch, Save Cleaner and a whole bevy of other fixes, you’ll be enjoying faster gameplay from now on!

Quick n’ Easy Tutorial

Download & install ParkControl (Here: https://bitsum.com/parkcontrol/)

Run the program

Under Parking AC & Parking DC, disable both options. Click Apply. Don’t touch anything else.

That’s it! Now enjoy buttery-smooth gameplay and less lag!

When I’m done, I usually turn Parking AC & Parking DC back on until the next time I play.

FYI this program does not alter any Sims game files- it changes whether or not your computer puts aside CPU cores to extend battery life (which doesn’t matter since you’re probably going to be plugged in for the Sims 3).

Windows 7 is programmed to use 4 cores at any time, so don’t worry about any parked cores being used for background tasks. If you’re concerned about your computer, set the percentage under Parking AC/DC to leave one core parked. If you’re using a laptop like I am, I would also suggest using a temperature monitoring software like Speed Fan or Core Temp regardless of whether or not you unpark your drives.

If your drives are already unparked, if you have Windows 8+, or you have a computer that can barely run the Sims 3, then this program likely won’t help. Read the MTS thread for a more thorough explanation and discussion.

I found that:

Loading times were improved

Catalogue items, Create-a-Style & Create-a-Sim loaded up faster

Gameplay was faster & smoother

Instead of 4 cores, I was able to fully use 8 cores. Obviously this will differ depending on your computer CPU.

For anyone with doubts- just back up your Sims 3 Documents folder before trying this!

I know this is a hassle so I apologize in advance and if you dont want to I understand. I was just wondering if you could kind of explain mods to me. I have a lot of CC outfits/hair/etc downloaded and I get that but when I go to modthesims and read the how to part, I get very confused.

Tutorial: The Basics of CC Magic

I still get asks about CC Magic, how it works, if it breaks your game or PC, why is it useful? So CC Magic compresses, sorts, and backups your CC. It makes your game run faster. Why is it better than manual merging? Hmm, maybe cause it is less manual? ;) But seriously, the main point is you can easily UNMERGE and EDIT compressed CC with it. Plus it is optimized for Sims 3. And no, it will not break your game, it won’t break your PC, and it is not complicated or confusing.

THIS ALSO WORKS FOR 1.69!

So here is a suuuper basic video on CC Magic. Obviously the first step is to sort your CC and that part really is manual ;)

To Add New CC: you stick into “Downloads”, “Refresh” CC Magic and drag files from “Default” into whatever Set you want, then “Rebuild”. Save a copy of the new CC in a backup folder.

Tutorial: Changing Pattern scale on Objects & Clothes

This little nifty trick I was taught by @mimisapje who figured it out and I thought I would share. Ever had the issue that your UV map is pretty small and the patterns in game then are HUGE? Well here is how to fix it!

Super stretched pattern, looks kinda bad, right? Well if you check out the tiling there, it is pretty small, so lets just type in something bigger…

Way better!

Now for objects I like to use the checkered pattern so I can see if it is really square:

Hmm not good, huge and not really square as I had to stretch the bed out to make it longer for a kids bed…

By settings my tiling to (4,8) I can compress it a little more in the length direction so that I cancel out the stretching of the mesh, and my pattern is way smaller! If you also look, underneath tiling is rotation (this is ONLY for objects) where you can also rotate the pattern if you realised you UV mapped it sideways ;)

A while back I was asked how I take high quality pictures. While I feel that my graphics are pretty sub par, considering my video card is well past her time (Nvidia GTX 280, bless her old soul), there’s several things one can do in order to achieve quality nirvana. One of them being lighting. Placing lamps at seemingly random distances greatly affect how our Sim appears. With the correct placement, our Sim can look pretty damn fantastic! And with the not-so-right placement, our Sim can also look like a tightly coiled, steaming pile of dooky.

All that I ask is that, prior to reading this, please take into consideration that this tutorial is showing how I set up my lighting and am by no means saying that my way is the best way. This is simply the method I feel to be most effective (for the time being) in my game and it may be the same for yours too!

What you need: S3OC, S3PE, and the EP/SP with the items you want to clone

Difficulty: Easy!

What items will work: Most things will work including hair, makeup, objects, etc. Even scripted objects will work as long as they are not EP specific (e.g. pool tables, fish tanks, hot tubs, spring riders, etc.).

What items won’t work: Scripted items that are found in only one EP (e.g. LN bars, IP boats, LN instruments, etc.). ETA (2013-09-12): maple–apple discovered that outdoor plants turn out black and distorted in game when cloned. Also, rabbitholes work but their icon in catalog is blank so a making a custom thumbnail would probably be for the best. Rabbitholes are located under Objects in the S3OC cloning menu according to their function (Diner, School, etc.).

(The pictures above correspond to each step in chronological order; the steps also are labeled in the pictures’ captions.)

1. Open S3OC and click the cloning tab. Choose the category depending on what type of item you want to clone.

2. a) If you are cloning an object, find the object you want to clone in the list. Then click the Clone or Fix… button.

2. b) If you are cloning a CAS item, find the item you want to clone in the list. For some reason, the clothing categories sometimes show up wrong in S3OC. Keep that in mind, then click the Clone or Fix… button.

3. a) Check the boxes marked in the picture and then click the Start button. You will be prompted to select a directory to save the file to. Then your package will be created.

3. b) Check the boxes marked in the picture. On the right-hand pane, select the correct categories for the CAS item. Then click the Start button. You will be prompted to select a directory to save the file to. Then your package will be created.

4. Open up your newly-created package in S3PE. Double click either the OBJD or CASP instance depending on whether you are cloning an object or CAS item.

5. A window will appear. In the second field for the group number, delete whatever numbers are there and replace it with a zero, then click OK.

6. Check to see that the group number of the OBJD/CASP has changed to 0x00000000. Then save!
