I have this headcanon that belarus is very short while tolys (lithuania) is very very tall, she will look so tiny standing next to him lmao😭

Sorry this took so long! I was taking a break, byt yes I love that lol. I think she's about 5,3 and he would be about six foot, so yes she would look tiny next to him. It wouldn't really bother her, she likes tall men and is used to being around them, and just because he's taller doesn't make him in charge at all. Her intimidating air makes up for that lack of height anyways. He probably loves that lol.

Also imagine him carrying her, so cute, but she wouldn't let it happen unless it was her idea.

Belarus is someone who puts her people's survival first and foremost and will do anything to ensure it, to the point of resignation and unhappiness. Her past of being ruled over by others and being subject to repressive rule however gives her a skewed view of what is necessary for survival. She has no time for principals and ideals, seeing such things as impractical, ironically cruel, and a luxury she cannot afford. She has a caring heart for those close to her, but she is cunning and manipulative in all her interactions, trusting no one one and making calculations on what will be more advantageous to her own goals which is that survival. She is fine with using others for that goal, though she does have some limits when her caring heart gets in the way. Despite her outbursts of anger she is also not an emotional person, being more of an analytical practical type. Her anger usually erupts because a situation overwhelmes her and she isn't able to handle or understand it fully. Her emotions have no where to go so it bubbles over into a poor temper. However most of the time she can be calm and placid.

Belarus loves water, she's an excellent swimmer and is also a fan of synchronized swimming. She also loves taking long hot baths and loves banyas which are like hot wood saunas in Slavic countries like Belarus and Russia. Often during winter if she uses one she likes to jump in the snow after because of the extreme heat.

Belarus is an introvert and a pretty low energy person, nevertheless she loves spending time with people that she cares for and does get lonely at times since she feels she doesn't have many friends and even those friends she has she is wary around due to her low level of trust in general and calculating mind. 

She does enjoy spending time with Russia, some decades more than others, and some of the things she enjoys doing with him include, petting cats, taking walks, singing, talking about philosophical concepts, stargazing, reading, playing video games, playing chess, swimming, and just sitting in nature.

Iceland sees Denmark as a sort of brother figure, but his relationship to him is a bit complicated. He likes and cares for him a lot, but at the same time he likes to give him a hard time and has a bit of resentment towards him due to their past. While the first Nordic he met was Norway, he met Denmark some time later when the Kalmar Union was formed. 

He saw Denmark as a bit of a distant figure for some time, however he soon also saw him as an annoyance who kept butting in on more things he saw had nothing to do with Denmark, monopolizing his trade and interfering with his affairs and his economy and later even his religion. He then saw Denmark as incompetent, both negligent and overbearing all at once. However he also felt insecure around him as well as he knew Denmark was more developed and even was attracting some of his own people to study and live there. He old desire for freedom just grew and grew and he let Denmark know, and Denmark slowly gave him what he wanted over time, even if he was hesitant. He cared about Iceland, but he also really didn't see him as able to handle being his own nation and did see him as too backwards for this as well, kinda a feral little gremlin. Iceland was insecure about this and insecure about his perceived lack of culture and development which added to his resentment. 

Still he slowly gained more agency, with gaining back his Althing in 1844, as well as gaining sovegernity after the first world war, though still having the Danish monarchy. When Denmark was taken over by Germany, he was pretty worried for him, but at the same time he wasn't going to delay what he wanted and he saw that he really could handle being on his own more or less, so he finally became formally independent in 1944, declaring himself a republic. This hurt Denmark, but he accepted it. Now as a free nation he was free to do as he pleased and wanted to feel like he was on the same level as other nations, including Denmark. He considered himself an adult now.

Now he is more or less friendly with Denmark and still considers him a brother, but he won't hesitate to give him a hard time and be a little difficult. It's a nice payback for all those years and fairly harmless, plus he wants to be taken seriously.

Iceland loves video games and plays them often. One of his favourite games is eve online and he's pretty proud it was made by Icelanders. He's also a fan of games like pokemon, animal crossing, rpg's, open world games, and the Zelda series. He also likes D&D, other roleplay board games and chess, which he's very good at and loves beating Denmark at.

Iceland is decently tall at about 5,9 but he would be taller if he hadn't dealt with malnutrition and starvation as a child. His body type also is fairly thin and wirey, he's not very muscular or big but is small, and although he's not strong he has a lot of stamina. This used to make him insecure and bother him, as well as making him worry about his masculinity, and while it still kind of makes him feel self conscious if another bigger guy is nearby, he's accepting of it a bit more nowadays.

Iceland is a pretty smart guy and he's interested in both literature and science. He loves reading and collecting books, alongside writing stories. In terms of science he loves astronomy, geology, chemistry, and volcanology of course. He is deeply interested in the earth around him and the volcanos on his land and is respect of their presence. He appreciates the advantages they give him with their tourist draw and the fact that they give him energy and warm water, but he's also aware of their power and the fact he has no control over them. That being said, he's not above going to see one erupt in person or cooking hot dogs over lava. (Yes rl people have done this lol)

Iceland really has a big love of the sky and space. One of his favourite things to do is stargazing and he loves catching a sight of auroras when he can. He also really loves the moon and is interested in how scientists have said some of his landscape is a lot like the moon’s. He's kind of pleased and proud of the fact that NASA has even sent scientists to test lunar conditions on his land as well as serving as a stand in for different planets in different space and sci-fi movies. Stargazing is also something that gives him a sense of peace and he loves going out into less populated areas in good weather to look at the night sky.

Iceland now is fairly well off, but in the past he was quite poor. He only had the bare necessities at most for most of his life until the 20the century after he became independent. He even served as a vistarband, a landless worker on someone else’s farm,  on various farms. As such he doesn't really consider himself special, doesn't want to be treated special, and sees others the same way. He calls everyone by their full name no matter who they are and doesn't show respect to positions of authority and doesn't care about celebrity. He just is who he is and everyone is who they are as well. Besides, all are powerless in the face of nature who doesn't care who someone is.

looking at this art by Hima I notice a lot of things surrounding her and I wondered if any might mean something. So let’s take a look.

First the bread, you might notice the round circular loaf has a cross on it. Well,

“There are many traditions related to bread. Before baking, a cross was drawn on the first loaf, thereby sanctifying the whole batch of bread. That loaf of bread decorated with a cross was put in the oven in the first turn but eaten in the last”

The long loaf too has several slices and,

“ According to a popular tradition, bread should never be torn into pieces with hands. It has to be crisscrossed over and cut with a knife” as a side note I bet she loves rye bread and bakes her own. 

Now let’s look at the apple. Apples are grown and eaten in Belarus and there’s even a holiday connected to them. It’s called Savior of the Apple Feast Day.

With the gingerbread apparently gingerbread and honey cakes are sweets eaten in Belarus. And the cake next to her may be piernik a gingerbread cake eaten in Belarus and Poland. I bet she’s fond of it and good at making such sweets.

Lastly strawberries and blueberries are grown in Belarus as well. I think she just might enjoy going out and picking them. I headcanon she makes her own jams and jellies too.

I am seeing a lot of people call this a mafia au and honestly I don't think it is. Hima himself never seems to at least from the translation reference the mafia, Instead calling it gangsta. I just think it's a generic crime/gang au. It also really does not sound like how the mafia works based on how it's described and shown in the comic. It's also a little western centric to automatically assume it is the mafia when Japan has the Yakuza and there are many series and shows based on it. I don't know much about the Yakuza vs the mafia but it could be more based on that too.

Sidenote hima has also done stuff like this before, he has many au's but the ones he's worked most on are gauken and nekotalia. This is just usual stuff and I think it's great he has creative freedom to just do random shit he wants. I also love the clever references that seem to be here too like the number of the zones being the area code of their respective nation and the big five group possibly being a reference to the UN security council with them being the permanent members.

Iceland likes camping but he doesn't really like doing so in woods. He's not very used to woods and in fact there really aren't many in Iceland, though they do exist. The reason for this is that early Norse settlers deforested vast amounts of areas and in fact a joke often told about Iceland is if you are lost in the woods, all you have to do to know where you are is stand up. He loves nature, he's just not at home along trees. He prefers mountains and vast plains and tundras filled with moss and flowers and boulders instead and of course he loves the ocean.

Iceland loves candy and eats a lot of it. His favourite candies have chocolate or/and licorice. He's a big licorice lover and the saltler the better and some of his favourite sweets are; Opal, a kind of licorice lozenge, toffi lolli, a caramel chocolate licorice qlollipop, Appolo licorice, Noa Kropp, a chocolate malt ball, Prince Polo, a chocolate wafer bar from Poland, Draumur, a chocolate bar with soft licorice inside, Thristur, a chocolate bar with licorice and nougat, Hruan, puffed rice chocolate with wafers, Sirius chocolate, and Lindu Buff, a marshmallow meringue covered with chocolate, Ris, a chocolate bar with large pieces of rice cereal, and Buffalo, a chocolate bar filled with marshmallows. Saturdays are also considered candy days in Iceland where candy is offered at a discount in candy stores and he takes full advantage of this.
