Seeing this brown bear at the Woodland Park Zoo totally reminded me of my time at Katmai National Park. I was so lucky to spend not one but two seasons working there! So thankful for that experience.

Off to the zoo for hubby's birthday! It's a day early, but it's gonna be hot this weekend, so we are hoping to beat the heat and crowds. Smokey tho.... Air quality alert all weekend. Unseasonably warm too.

Yesterday I saw not one, not two, but three praying mantis in our yard, sitting on our cornhole game. I'm not sure I've ever seen even one in Washington before, not in the wild at least. Crazy awesome!

And yes, the top two are mating. Should I have marked this post as having 'sensitive' content? Will the female eat the male after? Isn't that what praying mantis do?

Finally, our apple trees are teeming with fruit again. Been making lots of applesauce for freezing (to later use as an oil substitute) and one batch of baked apples. I don't mind peeling apples but cutting and coring is a pain in the behind.
