THE WALKING DEAD (2010-2022) 5.01 ✩ No Sanctuary
Things Joel "You're cargo/I'm not her dad" Miller did for his not-daughter, Ellie "I'm not family/He's not my dad" Williams (Part 4)
1. Helping her get closer to the giraffe.
2. Smiling when he sees her giggling.
3. Interrogating and torturing the men involved in her abduction.
4. Trying to cheer her up after the trauma she endured.
5. Indirectly telling her that she healed him.
6. Helping her get onto the horse.
7. Finally telling her about Sarah.
8. Demanding to see her after being told that she'll have to die for them to create a cure.
9. Massacring an entire hospital of Fireflies just to save her.
10. Carrying her in his arms, the same way he carried his daughter.
Joel finally accepting that he's a dad again makes my heart whole again. 😍🥰
Joel makes a different call

Don’t do this to me, baby girl. It’s okay, baby girl. I got you.
I think this show has been building up exactly to this question - did Joel do the right thing? From the very first scene of this show to multiple characters that were introduced throughout all points to this utilitarian dilemma. We already established there's no cure since it's a fungus in the first episode. The lady who was an expert in these areas said to bomb the whole city cause it's impossible to find a way out of this. The fireflies sacrificing Ellie to save humanity is all rooted in a giant 'maybe'. Instead of testing things it's ridiculous how their first choice is to kill a fourteen year old girl without even her consent. Neil and Craig did a beautiful job in peppering various relationships that run parallel to Ellie and Joel. From Joel deciding to kill himself the second day he lost Sarah because there's no point for life without her. Bill deciding to follow Frank because they're each other's purposes. Henry giving the leader of the resistance to FEDRA to save Sam, and in the end him killing himself because without Sam who does he fight for? What does he live for? It's the same with Joel. Time didn't heal his wounds but Ellie did. Humanity didn't want to make him live, and if there's anything that made him keep going, it's this little girl. So if you tell that man that his only purpose in life is being stripped away based on a shot in the dark that maybe there's a cure, definitely he's not going to second guess this time. Yes, Ellie must've gotten a choice but the Fireflies didn't give her that, they put her straight in the deathbed and Joel's only option was to kill any motherfucker who gets in his way
still haven’t recovered from this
Joel looking at his daughter Ellie ❤️
joel + yelling in desperation for ellie
“so time heals all wounds, i guess.”
“it wasn’t time that did it.”
I'd do the same thing so i don't judge Joel
It wasn’t time that did it.
