Njord

"Umido", nella mitologia nordica uno dei Vani; dio dei venti, del mare, del fuoco e della ricchezza; marito di sua sorella Nerthus; padre di Frey e Freyja. Quando Njord andò ad Asgard, sposò Skadi, ma quest'ultima preferì continuare a vivere nella casa paterna, Thrymheim. Njord, invece, voleva ritornare nella sua dimora, Noatun (il paradiso delle navi). Secondo ″L'Edda di Snorri″,<< alla fine arrivarono ad un compromesso: avrebbero trascorso tre notti a Thrymheim e tre a Noatun>>.

″L'Edda di Snorri″ dice che Njord <<è così ricco che può regalare e possedimenti a chi glieli invoca>>. Un tipo di spugna, nella mitologia nordica, viene chiamata "il guanto di Njord".
