"Do I really look that bad?" he asks, closing his eyes. Yamato smelled of pine, and it was oddly calming. "Maybe I might."
âaah, did that come off rudely? donât take it that way, sorry.â heâs apologetic before he can think about it, chancing a glance towards him.
âthis just happens more often than not, you walking in exhausted. though ... iâm not any better.â he sighs, dropping his head in mock depression. when he looks back up, itâs with a small laugh and his arm around the chuuninâs shoulders. âiâm just saying maybe we should do something about that.â
Lotus Flower
he sighs, and leans his head tiredly against the couch. it slips down when he moves, and rests instead on yamato's shoulder.
without thinking, his hand ventures upward, to undo the hairtie. might as well get as relaxed as possible, right? he turns a page in his book.
â ââ i think you should start cutting back on some hours. youâre still too young to look that tired.âÂ

irukas replied to your post âSNEAKY CHEEK SMOOCH WATCH OUT.â
Iruka is startled by Yamato's frantically embarrassed response, but only for a moment. "Not so loud, Captain. You'll wake Kotetsu."
oh, right, right. a nervous peek is taken over his shoulder, just to see that the other chuunin was just as still as heâd been. he shakes his head, voice dropping into a whisper. âi think izumo-san is upset with him about something, might be about what you told me about yesterday.âÂ
his attention is back up on the sensei. âi wouldnât be opposed to trying that again, though.â
SNEAKY CHEEK SMOOCH WATCH OUT.
        âthey were at work!
granted, the jonin lounge was empty aside for kotetsu snoring facing down in the couch on the other side of the room. yamatoâs poor timing to greet him ended with irukaâs lips making contact just beneath his eye, leaving his whole face red.
      â g-good morning, sensei! â
chidorinu:
get up rn immediately
i feel like youâre exaggerating this. ok, iâm up, what is -- are you ok?
chidorinu:
you gotta get up now tho
please let me go back to sleep.
Have u ever met the human version of a headache
firstheir are you asleep
yes.
"--thanks!" He's about to take a sip when he notices Yamato's bashful, slightly /nervous/ expression. "...of course it's alright. I appreciate it---and I could really use it, after the day I've had. I'll say honestly that I've been looking forward to dinner with you all day. My staff meeting dragged on for /hours/."
    right, of course.
he isnât some genin in need of validation; he wished his nerves would stop trying to present him as such. he smiles back, raising his mug for a generous helping. when he sets its down, its with a brush of the back of his hand against his lips and a slight crease in his forehead. â youâd think the administration changes wouldnât trickle down so far to disrupt things for everyone like that. oh well. âÂ
he shakes his head. â anyway, youâre here now. heard any good rumors lately? i feel like iâm out of the loop half of the time. â
[sits next to him!]
â aa, sensei, youâre right on time! â he was hoping heâd spot the open seat but was just as prepared to get up had it been taken. a full mug is pressed into his hand. Â
â i went ahead and ordered one for you. that⊠was okay, right? â

âItâs settled, then,â he replied, feeling a little awkward about how businesslike he sounded. Certainly, heâd had his fair share of relationships in the past. Perhaps the time heâd gone without one had taken a toll on his social graces, he thought; wouldnât Genma find that just hilarious? Better not to tell him. âYouâre making it sound a lot more difficult than it actually is, Captain. There isnât a need for tactical manoeuvres or strategic planning. Weâre alright. When weâre together like this⊠we arenât shinobi. Weâre just people. Donât think like a shinobi. Not right now.â
Iruka smiled, playing with the cat on his lap. âI donât care how much experience you have or not. You arenât applying for a job, you know. I⊠like you quite a lot. Thatâs how it is. And if you like me, too, then⊠itâs enough.â
Looking up, Iruka gave Yamato a patient look, expectant. He pat at the couch idly; Yamatoâs stiffness as he stood was thoroughly amusing, though he said nothing of it. âDonât you think?â
the entire encounter did seem like some sort of transaction. yamatoâs shoulders slump, a decidedly dreadful character flaw of his that needed to be rectified in some way ... or at the very least, made better. he offers a tired smile in the response to the offer to sit and joins him not a moment later.        â itâs enough, â he agreed, his arm resting along the back of the couch, mostly behind irukaâs shoulders. he turned that same smile on the cat currently in the chuuninâs lap, reaching out with his free hand to stroke beneath its chin. â geez, i havenât even offered you anything. well, iâve got tea, and water and beer. â
he gestures towards to the front door then.
â i'm assuming you came straight from work? makinâ you run over here and not extending anything seems a little... â his voice trailed off into a small, desperate laugh, head tipping over for a moment as he did but when he looked up again, his embarrassment was present in his cheeks. he was overthinking things, and he doubts quite a bit that thatâs what caught the senseiâs attentions about him.
â well, if weâre not going to talk about work, i donât think youâre allowed to call me captain. yamato is fine ... tenzo, even, if youâd like. â
