Almost everyone I know said they’d take it, no questions. Or, they said they’d give it back but they’d expect some sort of reward from it.
I recognize the fact that by taking it, i am being immoral. At the core of this, I am lying. Jeff has enough money, he doesn’t need a thousand dollars, its a mere penny to him. If you dropped a penny and someone gave it back to you— would you care?
The gesture is nice, but do you *need* that penny? it didn’t even make a dent in your wallet.
And, if it weren’t Bezos, rather just some random guy— would you give it back? Does the fact you know it is Bezos wallet change anything? What if it were a less “controversial” billionaire such as Bill Gates?
To me, any billionaire is sinister, immoral. To get to that point one must have done something bad to achieve such riches. If you have that much money, I believe you are covered in sin.
Nobody needs a billion dollars.
Lets say a billionaire is somehow free from sin, they got all their money organically— I still believe they are immoral. There are people who need homes, need something to get them on their feet— and you sit there in a pile of wealth you don’t even know what all to do with. And we allow it to happen, instead of acknowledging the reality we live in, we point fingers at each other. Capitalism thrives off of the lack of community.
Sure, taking the money is wrong, but my bad action is insignificant compared to that of these people on top of the world.
Kant says we need to universalize our actions, by doing this, we would be perfectly fine with others doing the same— lying, for example.

Im taking the wallet, bezos, musk, gates, zuck— i dont care. But if it were just some normal person, im returning it. These individuals are not your average joe. They are powerful people that earned their money by exploiting others and stealing ideas. They profit off of using people. They see others as tools, not as humans. Humanizing their money-makers will make them feel guilty, so they don’t.

I love this take bru. bezos has recently just spent 28 mil to do nothing. ruined the planet by another piece. in a situation with a strangers wallet, we know nothing about this person, that money could save the entire world for all we know. Jeff bezos has more money than anyone could spend in a lifetime, he's had enough time to do so much good with it but he decides to use it for immoral actions, therefore it genuinely won't help anybody to return the wallet.
