Karoline Swan, Mirage Dawood and Bella Carbone have arrived in their houseboat, in their own swimsuits, dropped an anchor to park (outside the town of Portorosso, where everybody can enjoy gelato, pasta, and even Vespa rides), as a relaxing summer vacation spot

they’re about to take a swim towards the water “wait girls, look there” but before they jump in, Karoline points at something unusual “hm..?” Bella curiously looks down when spotted something in that water

A silver sea monster was swimming in the water, searching for things people had left behind on the beach. The treasures were always washed away to one spot by the waves, which happened to be right under the houseboat. Alberto looked up at the large shadow over him, surfacing to see who it was.

"Um. Welcome to Portorosso?"

“Thanks” Bella waved a bit, then Karoline Swan gasped and held Bella back away from where the sea monster is “Bella, get away from that creature, it could be dangerous” she warned her “Karoline, It’s alright, go ahead, Bella” Mirage asked told Karoline that he might be a friendly one, then to Bella by telling her to go for it

so Karoline let Bella go to greet him properly

Alberto tilted his head, climbing up onto the dock. Waving to Bella with a small smile, trying to ignore what her friend had said. His feelings were a little hurt, but he didn't blame her. Sea monsters were probably rare.

"Hey, Alberto. Um...this is a really random question...uh...have you ever been kissed before?"

"Luca?" Alberto tilted his head like a confused dog, looking at him. Something was different about this Luca, but he wouldn't push it. It had been a while, after all. He bit his lip as he tried to think of an answer that would make him seem.. cool or like an expert.

"Pfft, yeah. Of.. of course I have?.." He crossed his arms over his chest, giving a weak smile that betrayed his level of confidence.

“Oh, so you have been kissed? That’s good. So, um...who have you been kissed by?” He steps closer to the older boy while having his hands placed behind his back.

Another lip bite. Alberto leaned against the wall, eyebrows furrowed in deep thought. Waving his hand dismissively in the air, trying to think of another answer.

"Uh. Well, you know. People?.." He shrugged, stumbling over his words but still managing to seem casual.

“Okay..um...” Luca shifts his gaze away from him as a blush to begin to appear on his cheek, his heart pounding inside of his chest. “Have you...k-kissed a b-boy before...?”

"Nnnnnnnnnnnyeaahno?" Alberto mumbled into his hand to disguise his unsure answer, also averting his gaze. "Um. Why do you ask?"

“J-Just curious...” His cheeks turned brighter when he could have sworn that he heard a ‘yeah’ in between his mumbles. “And...um...do you ever develop any boy c-crushes?” His face felt like it was on fire.

Alberto nodded, laughing nervously. Arm crossing over his chest, fingers tracing over the scar on his shoulder. This was Luca he was talking to.. he could be honest, right?

"Um. I do. Is that weird? I thought it was normal.."

“N-N-No, it’s perfectly normal to like b-b-boys because i like them t-too...so, Alberto...if is okay....that i...kiss..you?” Butterflies were fluttering in his stomach, now he was fidgeting with his fingers nervously, shifting his bare feet.

"Um. Okay. I mean, that's okay with me." Alberto murmured, cheeks turning red as he stepped closer. Running a hand through his hair to make sure he looked nice.

Luca took a deep breath and grabbed Alberto's hand, standing on his toes so he can match his height and kisses him softly on his cheek for three seconds before he took a step back.

Alberto's blush got even more intense as he hid his face in his free hand. He seemed to have liked the kiss though.

"Um... Can I tell you something?" He asked, biting his lip again.

Luca nods and stares into his eyes. “Yeah. You can tell me anything, Alberto.” He said in a soft voice, knowing that he was going to tell him that he likes him.

"Well..... I actually haven't kissed anyone before. But that was nice. I think I.. like you?" He trailed off, still feeling awkward. He wasn't quite sure what to say, but he really liked Luca...

Okay, so I watched Luca for the third time today and looking closely, there is plenty of evidence to suggest that Alberto might be a trans male.

This drawing of Luca’s family (which is accurate, I checked and you can too if needed) shows the tails and ears of all four of them.

Those that the audience assume to be cis female (the grandmother and mother) have spikey tails, whereas the assumed cis males (the dad and Luca) have tails that have more smooth ends.

Then if you look at some other sea monsters seen in the show, the neighbor that Luca has in the beginning that we as the audience assume to be female has a spiked tail as well.

And the old lesbian couple we see at the end, one has a spiked tail (although the other one is hard to see)

Then, if you look at Luca’s uncle, he has a more smooth tail like Luca or the father.

Based on this, we can assume that a spikey tail=afab and smooth tail=amab.

Then we have Alberto, who does in fact have a spikey tail which is in line only with characters we assume to be afab.

Obviously there is more to sex and gender than this, and we have no idea if any of the other characters are trans. But, this does make a good case for Alberto to be trans.
