I remember this from the anime, so my accuracy is honestly not the same when it comes to the manga unless he said the same thing there, but I remember him mentioning to Ronald that a reaper who couldn't function without their glasses was useless. Not his exact words but similar. I genuinely never understood how that made him suddenly able to fucking see, but he has this attitude where maybe he can not 'see' but he doesn't rely on his vision at all, perhaps that is why he keeps his eyes covered because they are useless.

I mean they aren't blind without them but it seems to me like he uses his hearing and other senses and just doesn't rely on vision, much like a blind person.

Grell is the only practical reaper in Black Butler like,, she put those glasses chains on her reaper glasses and it helps avoid losing them

the reapers can’t see without their glasses and therefore can’t really work without them, but Grell won’t have that as an issue rarely as often

The female singer is offering up the token demurrals society expects her to, because it’s expected, not bc she doesn’t fully intend to stay and have awesome sex with a dude she’s into. A 1950s audience would have understood all this, but the nuance gets lost in a modern age where women are actually allowed to say yes when they mean it.  

Also the “hey what’s in this drink” thing was a common joke at the time, where the punchline was that there was in fact nothing in the drink. the woman’s making a joke that she wouldn’t do this if she was sober, oh goodness no! it’s only a joke bc both she and the man are in on the punchline: she is sober, and is only staying bc she wants to

i don’t think people understand that people can ‘love’ you and not actually love you

like my grandmother ‘loved’ me, but she also was always trying to change me.  she tried to take me away from my (catholic bisexual) mother.  she made me wear dresses when i was there.  she always tried to get me to go to church and was always asking me if i was dating a boy yet

i spent years feeling guilty that i wasn’t what she wanted me to be until my mom told me one day “she never bothered to know the real you”

and it’s true.  any time i tried to show her something about myself, even cook for her, it would be dismissed, and a replacement would be offered.  even northern food was somehow a sin.  

she loved me what she thought i should be, she never loved me.  

bc people who love you, they love you for all the stuff that makes you you.  they never consider that it makes you inconvenient.

I am struggling to move much sooner than I expected (I am 19 and was trying to save to buy a house so I don't have to waste on rent) because my step father does not accept my different views and can not contain the anger it apparently causes him. But he still claims to "love" me, which I believe, in a sense. He has always been a father to me when mine was too busy with another family, but he doesn't love me, really, he loves the idea of me.

But it is okay, because we are our own people, and we have each other, and what else do we really need? ❤

I was MORE than glad to put my foot down! It is disgusting, and I don’t think people should be intimidated by these gross people into not calling it what it is.

As expected, I awoke after making that post to a bunch of nasty messages, which I kind of expected given the nature of those fans. However I rather suspect it was one person that got bent out of shape and was trying to intimidate me, I got some hateful comments on my art blog as well that I suspect may be the same person.

It’s pathetic. Outside of being predatory, the other reason I wanted to put my foot down about ‘that’ ship, is because those who support it are manipulative, and they play shitty games to try and hurt people. They need to be kicked out of this fandom ASAP. I don’t want young people coming into this fandom to be in danger or have that kind of content normalized to them because of the grip those gross kinds of predatory fans have had on this fandom.

I will scream it from the rooftops. I will support the kinds of artists and writers in this fandom that deserve more attention and focus. And I will always. ALWAYS put my foot down when it comes to this sort of topic.

There is a country song out there, where the artist sings about (either him or just a character he made up) falling in love with a 15 year old girl but he was 25 or something (too old) and they had to separate but then they found each other again when she was a consenting adult and he feels like its faith.

If you can't listen to that song without feeling some sort of grossed out, there is an issue. I say this because even though she is an adult now, he fell in love with and was physically attracted to the same girl at 15 years old and that is wrong. A child under concent can not give consent even if they say they do, they are not capable of understanding that, and may regret it in the future.

Even though the song suggests she is consenting now, in the future, situations like this do not exist (change my mind) and it is predatory, perverted and wrong. And should not be played on the radio.

That is just one example I have for people who ship Seba/ciel (should I put the backslash?) And say "well I imagine him to be older". No, because you are still looking at a 13 year old character and saying, damn, I really wish that grown adult could be in an intimate relationship with him. Why would you even be thinking of Ciel like that in the first place?

Writer folks (ESPECIALLY academic writer folks), how do you approach old projects when you have new content to incorporate/new ideas?

I personally never post anything unless it is complete because I am constantly thinking and changing my ideas. So a lot of my ideas are old with newer things added once it's been set public.

So every time I get an idea, I write it down and leave it to add onto if I ever think of anything to do so. It also helps me not feel so pressed to publish something since no one even knows it exists but me

the greatest thing (at least for me) about finally reading the black butler manga is the realization of how fucking trash the anime was. and YES, i’m talking about season 1 and season 2.

like first off, there were so many unecessary & oversexualized/gross scenes between seb and ciel that never happened in the manga. the anime was so obviously softcore shotacon and it was disgusting to watch. the plot was all over the place, the backstories for every single character was wrong..its just...bad.
