Some things I wish I knew before my first year of college.
I have forgiven you but I have not forgotten. Let me tell you why.
With everything going on in the world, it's hard to get away from hearing about violence, hate, and bigotry. We saw strangers helping each other, helping the homeless, and it was really up lifting. I wish every day could be like my experience at Lollapalooza 2016.
This summer has seriously been emotionally and physically draining. I got a new job waiting tables at a local bar back in May when I found out I had to quit before my first day of training because I needed total foot reconstruction. I had an accessory navicular bone (extra bone on the inside of my right foot) that was tearing my tendon and therefore had to be removed and my tendon completely repaired. I had a splint on for 2 weeks, a hard cast for 3 weeks, a walking boot partial weight bearing for 2 weeks and now I'm fully walking in the boot and sometimes without the boot. My foot is incredibly stiff and sore and going to Lollapalooza with my boyfriend really made the pain level jump physically (but emotionally made me feel 10000000x better). I have no strength at all. I've tried doing some ab workouts that don't involve weight on my feet and I seriously get fatigued so quickly. I still weight between 134-140lbs (different scales different numbers??¿), which is a positive since I lost 6 pounds before surgery and was really trying to be more active and eat healthier and then all of that was completely shut down for the entire summer. While my family and boyfriend were working I was at home trying to figure out how to carry food (or anything in general) with my crutches. I ate mostly granola bars and microwave soups etc - not very good for my healthily life style I was trying so hard to commit to. I've had to learn how to walk again, which is SO incredibly frustrating. I will NEVER take walking for granted ever again. Had to spend 60%+ of my savings account on a new car 3 weeks ago (and currently not working due to my foot) that I drove for the first time in a parking lot for practice yesterday. The friends I thought I had, never even made an effort to check in on me - although I would do that for them. I felt abandoned and broken and so alone. I was frustrated because I wanted to go out and do stuff but when I did go out it was too hard, or I felt like I was annoying the people I was with and just felt like I shouldn't be there. This summer has been SO HARD. And I faced it on my own, with my parents and my boyfriend. The friends I thought I had still have rarely reached out to me in the past (almost) 2 months of my recovery. Can't wait for classes to start to meet new people, and finally drive and walk again. Was basically offered a job at a new bar I went to with my parents and I'm really thinking of applying once I'm cleared to work again - I really need to rebuild my savings account. So thankful for my amazing boyfriend and wonderful family. No one will probably read this but I really just needed to say it.
Not many know, but my fitness journey had came to a halt when I found out I needed reconstruction foot surgery. It has been a huge journey, but this is what I learned.
