me when my computer was new: *gives computer its own room, carefully places pillows around, NOT blocking the fans of course, cleans interior every weekend, reads it bedtime stories and kisses it goodnight*
me now: *puts sandwich on main vent and listens to the crumbs bounce off my motherboard* yes. eat. grow strong like your father
It was this picture that hit me like a ton of bricks.
You know the Instagram “Places” feature? Type in a town, city, museum, country and you are instantly transported to a gallery of varied photos taken from people at that place. I love it because I can click on the most professionally taken photograph and see every detail of the location and then scroll down to a shitty iphone picture of a girl and her friends posing with duck lips at said location.
Knowing that a big part of the attack in Paris happened at a concert I looked up the music venue. Le Bataclan. I searched the venue on Instagram expecting to find pictures of police cars and news reports of carnage. Instead what I found was a gallery all too familiar to me. Pictures of the stage, people posing outside the venue, people posing inside the venue, pictures of ticket stubs accompanied with captions expressing the excitement one had to be attending this concert.
I was completely numb.
Any irrational violent attack or terrorist activity makes me feel small and helpless. I dislike all of it and wonder how anyone could do such a thing. Seeing this picture though, something hit me like never before. You see, ever since I was young all I wanted to do was go to concerts. People ask me how my favorite thing can be concerts filled to the brim with people when I have panic disorder. When I go see my favorite artists perform live it’s like a release and I feel so happy and free. It doesn’t matter if I’m in the middle of 100 sweaty people because at the end of the night all those random people including myself have made a connection and have come together for this common love of music.
I don’t know if these two people died tonight. What I do know is they were probably looking forward to this event and most likely had a great time before the attack occurred. I hope with everything in me that they are ok.
I see me in this picture. I see so many of my friends who come with me to concerts in this picture. I see all the random people smiling as they sing along to songs they love.
112 people died in that venue.
The people who attacked Le Bataclan and all the innocent inside are evil. Music means safety and comfort to so many people and guess what? It still means those things and no one no matter how evil can ever take that away.
I pray for Paris, I pray for France, I pray for the world.
a message we can all get behind…
UPDATE: At least 158 dead and around 200 injured, including 80 critically
