[Matt sometimes feels like he has the sole right to Fisk. After all,it’s he who is always the target of seemingly every move the other makes.
But it’s people like Frank Castle who remind him that it’s not just his life who has been invaded and ransacked by the Kingpin.
So let it be open season on the Kingpin.]
That your personal mission now? I can drink to that.
No. My personal mission hasn't changed.
[ And it won't. It doesn't really matter to him that this particular mission will never see an end; that this is a war he'll wage until his heart thumps the last time against his ribcage and he can't get back up again.
There will never be an end to people who deserve to die. He doesn't pretend that he's making the world a safer place, not really; he's making it safer today, making it safer because this man is no longer on it, but someone else will step up.
Frank intends to take as many of them into hell with him as he can, though. ]
I know we have our differences…but thanks.
Save it for when I take the Kingpin down.
[ And he will. Eventually. Fisk isn't someone you can just put a bullet in and walk away from, though; he's bigger than that. His reach spans too far for his death alone to destroy his influence, and that grates at Frank, digs in deep under his skin and makes itself a home.
Someone like Fisk you have to choke out, first. You have to cut away his empire, undermine him in the eyes of the criminal underbelly of the world. You have to discredit him and destroy him, piece by piece, or by killing him you'll just make him into a legend.
And legends never die. ]
Tell me about it.
[Suddenly, Matt feels like he and Frank just arrived on the same page.]
You noticed the recent crime wave too, huh?
I'm not back in the Kitchen for the pretty scenery.
[He hears the rustle of the newspaper, Frank’s signal of grudging acceptance of Matt’s presence.]
Don’t really need it tonight. Ben Urich wrote a nice piece about all the good work Nelson & Murdock have been doing for the Kitchen. And didn’t mention the D-word once.
Kitchen's gonna need some of that good.
[ His voice remains unconcerned, conversational even, as he turns to the police blotter. There's no way Daredevil hasn't found out by now that the Kingpin's back.
It's a big part of why Frank's back. ]
But I’m more fun than everyone else.
[ Matt's apparently not leaving, so Frank sits down at his table and drags his copy of the newspaper across it. ]
I'm not here to patch up your self esteem.

But then who would you make fun of Spidey with?
-- everyone else?
The Punisher Volume 8, Issue # 3.
Like for a starter!
But what about the baby?
I might just shoot you.
[ The punchline's a lot less funny when your kids are dead. ]
[He sighs heavily.]
I’m pregnant, Frank.
And it’s yours.
I could just shoot you.
[Who knew: he had manners after all.]
Not at the moment, no. I’m tailing a guy actually. He’s busy getting wasted at the moment. Thought I might make the job a little easier on my myself.
Am I supposed to buy that, choirboy?
[ He has manners when he feels like having manners.
Actually, Frank doesn't really go out of his way to be an asshole; it just seems like, it considering most of his interactions tend to end with him putting a bullet in someone.
One-on-one, and without anyone to shoot, he doesn't see the point in being anything but civil. Usually. ]
Why are you really here?
Because it’s doubling as my safehouse right now. Also I’m cold.
-- fine.
[ Normally, he'd shoot someone who found their way into his safehouse uninvited -- but he doesn't make a habit of shooting righteous men.
He sets the coffee mug on the counter and slides it toward Matt in silent invitation. ]
Someone on your tail?
