The New Colossi
Imagine an expansion is announced for Shadow of the Colossus. The game doesn’t need one, but who doesn’t want an excuse to revisit this masterpiece?
The New Colossi is a hypothetical DLC that, when launched, replaces the enemies with an entirely new set with their own designs, strategies, and arenas. The game and its story are otherwise unchanged.
The Blacksmith
Edifex (Cyclopis ferrei) is an early encounter, but not a colossus to be trifled with. He is quick with the hammer: you will have the most success if he doesn’t see you at all.
*iron cyclops/giant
The Stone Ram
Another early encounter, Fortis (Aries loricatus) is easy to approach, but its sigils are protected by armor. The colossus will charge, and it will stop at nothing - not even the pillars holding up the roof of its arena. They can only take so many hits…
*armored ram
The Centaur
Rachnus (Doryphorus saltatus). Its only sigil is on its underbelly, making it a seemingly easy target, requiring only a jump off Agro’s back to reach. However, this colossus will jab you with its spear if you are anywhere on its back. Use this to your advantage if you wish to succeed.
*dancing spear-bearer
The Lakebed Dragon
Viridio (Naia columna) wades on a rickety foundation. Find a way to drain the rough waters so you can make a safe approach.
*columned naiad
The Crone
Senecta (Statua cana) may be slow, but it still takes some planning to get within attack range. Disable its staff arm to give yourself time to climb the vines in the arena, then attack from above.
*gray statue
The Lightning Bug
Bryon (Ursus hydratus). Powerful jets of water and foot shocks make Bryon impossible to get near enough to attack. Use what you know about electricity and water to stun the colossus so you can access its mossy underside.
*water bear
The Hermit
Fugus (Ignis amans) is drawn to the flame but not immune to its heat. Set a trap to force this colossus to expose its vulnerabilities.
*fire lover
The Yeti
Terranis (Gigante montis) will test your ability to navigate rough terrain quickly. Pursue higher ground and don’t get caught.
*mountain giant
The Cerberus
Vitus (Tutor trifax) is playful, and dangerously so. To defeat this colossus you must play the heads against each other.
*three-faced guardian
The Guardian of the Ruins
Nimble and aggressive, Illyrius (Custos ruinae) will not let you attack it head-on. Lure it to a disadvantageous position and leap onto its back from high ground.
*guardian of the ruins
The Air Serpent
An airy fog envelops a crystal lake, and Aeria (Anguis volantes) is the master of both. Lure the serpent into the water and hold on tight.
*flying eel/dragon
The King of the Crater
Diorix (Ambisagrus fragosus) thunders along an active caldera. It’s dangerous, there are rocks flying about, and it will take some extra speed to keep pace with the colossus.
*crashing [Gaulish] thunder god
The Sun Bird
Approach Materas (Solis pennatus) with caution - its beak and feet are deadly weapons. The sigil is easily accessible, but good luck hanging onto it while the colossus is standing upright.
*feathered sun
The Leviathan
Carong (Cetus lacus), is confined to an alpine lake. Its gaping mouth is a formidible threat, and also its weakness.
*lake whale
The Golden Archer
Hayak (Sagittarius aureus) guards the stairway to the ruins where the final colossus has taken root. It is not hard to climb, if you can get near enough.
*golden archer
The Great Oak
Liege (Robus finalus) guards the final fragment of Dormin. Attack the head, then descend the roots to find the hidden sigil.
*final oak/stronghold
god that is so goddamn cool
