The Avett Brothers "I'll Come Running Back to You" In my book, these guys can do no wrong. When they cover Sam Cooke, it's just like bye, heart melted, game over. | n
The Zombies "This Will Be Our Year" Happy 2014, kiddos. | n
Lorde "Tennis Court" I've been listening to this song and others from Lorde a lot lately, but today was the first time I watched the video for "Tennis Court." Let's all just take a moment and accept that this teenager is cooler than you or I will ever be. We shouldn't be jealous that she seems to have skipped the awkward phase that the rest of the world has to suffer through...some of us well into our twenties (it's been rough). AMIRIGHT?? | b
The Velvet Underground "Pale Blue Eyes" Farewell to one of the best. | n
Haim "If I Could Change Your Mind" Just can't get enough. | n
Foreign Fields "The River Kings" (Arco Sessions) This is pretty special. | n
Drake "Hold On, We're Going Home" The part of my job that includes me spending time with a 15-year-old high school girl proved to be very valuable today when she changed my radio station to a station playing this song. Top 40 done right. | n
Laura Marling "Where Can I Go" A few months ago I saw Laura Marling walking around a small natural foods store in LA. I was taken aback less by the fact that I crossed paths with her at this unusual spot at this unusual time than by the fact that nobody in the store seemed to care. She was just another customer. To me, it would be on par with running into Joni Mitchell at a gas station. This magical creature, this magician of words, cannot possibly be a real human, standing here comparing kombuchas. With the release of her new album, the magic stands. The vibrancy, urgency and craft of her music will never cease to amaze me. Savor this one. | n
Foxygen "No Destruction" This band. This song. I have never been more apt to use the word "perfection." | n
The Orwells "Other Voices" I will never be able to fully comprehend how a band this young is this talented. Mind. Blown. | n
Foxygen "Shuggie" If you've been wondering where I've been for a month, I've been listening to this album on repeat. And then repeating it again. And then repeat. Anything else I claim to be listening to is a lie. | n
PHOX "Barside" So baby, I'm gunning for you. Monicaperfection. | n
Kail Baxley "Say Goodbye to the Night" Digging him. | n
PHOX "Confetti" (a Video EP) This is one of the more special things I've seen in a long while. We could all learn a little something about making art from these guys. Support the incredible album here, too. | n
Phosphorescent "Song for Zula" Posting this song will probably help me win the lottery or get my dream job or make Jack White my bestie. I know this because I've read enough of those books about the Universe and all the little signs that are apparently everywhere if you just pay attention and act on them, everything will align and shit will be perfect. Well, this song has to be a sign of some sort, because for months I've heard it, marveled in it's perfection and never posted it. But then I kept hearing it and hearing it and hearing it some more. I'm listening, universe, have at me. | n
The Orwells "Lays at Rest" Are there still people who don't listen to The Orwells? | n
Leagues "Spotlight" Something about this songs makes me feel like it's an indie band covering some 80's female popstar's B-side but I'm not mad. | n
