Did you know that the Vikings traveled and traded with not just with the Native Americans, or even the middle east as in Ibn Battuta's travelogue, the Ibn Fadlan, but also ancient India?

In River Kings: A New History of the Vikings from Scandanavia to the Silk Road, Dr. Cat Jarman - discussed the archaeological find of Indian gemstone beads (specifically from what is known as Gujarat Example here of a carnelian bead found in the Viking grave in Repton England (a raider's grave).

But yeah, if you read old history youll see amazing stuff of accounting and trade records and complaints (usually one guy bitching he got done dirty in a trade while....the other guy is doing hte same -- we aint ever change) records of philosphy and trade between the Greeks, Egyptians, Persians, Norse, Chinese especially.

They got on damn well for a VERY VERY VERY LONG TIME. the old world so so much more fucking interconnected that you realize. stories, myths, food, travel, weapon's tech (yeah look into how that shit traveled)

We all know that Steve Randle can lift a hubcap quicker and more quietly than anyone in the neighborhood, but only Tim knows that Steve and Soda sell stolen car parts to the River Kings, who run a mechanic shop as a cover for their criminal activities.

- whenever he feels like he needs a break from all the responsibility he goes to the movies alone

- his fav candy is twizzlers

- when he started selling drugs he was not only in a bad place financially but also mentally/physically

- he was exhausted all the time, anxious, and generally feeling worn down

- because he works so many jobs he sleeps in his car between work and school most days

- he saved up for a long time to buy that car, and it’s old and a bit broken but he loves it bc it’s something that’s just his

- even though he sells them he’s never done drugs. he views the arrangement as necessary to provide for his family, so in his mind that makes it worth it

- has never gotten caught because he’s such a kindhearted guy, and a hard worker, so nobody suspects him, and nobody would rat him out

river kings pt 1

Charlie (20) - hes the one who shot Rosie. There was a fight, he misfired, and there isn't a day he doesn't wish it went differently - his father was a drug dealer and would always take Charlie along to scary places and Charlie saw some things no six year old should ever see - he could fire a gun at age seven - he's very quiet, which is usually taken as him being really mean - opposite of a hot temper he just stays scarily quiet and looks dangerous - he literally does not care what anyone thinks bc he hates himself more then they could - DOES NOT TRUST ANYONE - the only person in the world he might possibly love is scott - brown hair and green eyes and sharp jawline omg - has perfected the "I'm dangerous don't look at me" look Scott (17) - oldest of six and low key leader of a gang (he is a natural leader ppl just follow him) - best older brother EVER - love all his siblings so much seriously - he has and will do literally anything for them (he's gotten into so many fights to protect them) - six kids drains a family of money so scott works all the time to make sure all his siblings have everything they need - turned to selling drugs to pay for his family's needs - actually a big heart - blonde hair and browns eyes and so cuddly looking Rus (19) - he tries so hard in school but it got him nowhere (he is kind of clueless; the hand treats him like it too) - was called dumb and he really let it get to him - he low key loves to sing but he thinks it would make him seem not tough - will do any dare for a beer and the laughs - He's big, like so much muscle and blonde hair and blue eyes

A PSA ABOUT THE RIVER KINGS

I was about to post the headcannons for the little project me and @eastsidecigarette have been working on (if you haven't seen her tiber street tigers one go check it out!!) but Tumblr deleted ALL my work- I'm so so sorry and they'll be up ASAP but probably not until tomorrow. again, so sorry, but I'm nearly done typing them out. we've been talking about this for a while, and just want to make it great for you guys :)

so i was reading my viking book yesterday, river kings, and it slowly works its way into the controversial eastern expansion of the vikings and at some point i was so reminded of the northman! because the northman i think starts with a raid in a slav region and i can't remember how it goes on exactly, lots of massacring i believe, but the way it wove into the plot the eastern expansion of the vikings was really cool. there was also a mention of a volva, a female witch, and it made me think of björk in the movie.

and i kinda knew robert eggers did his research but it was fun to have it confirmed.
