When Jay-Z said "Starr like Ringo." in the song "Crazy In Love" I felt that. And let us not for get "Black Beetles" by Rae Sremmurd.
Anyways, someone needs to make like a compilation of Beatles references in modern pop songs, I feel like there's so much and it would be fun.
Take hip hop back underground… members only
This came on while I was driving home. I love and am not surprised 'Golden' is still in the top 40.
Last year @find-jupiter posted a series for her life in pop music, I believe originating from this site I bookmarked [x]. I love this idea and now that life finally seems a bit more settled, I'm playing along.
This series will list favorite pop song from every year of my life along with notes. I'll try do a decade a week, but we shall see how that goes! I'm also limiting myself to the top 40* of every year, though the lists I'm referring to are the Wikipedia entries for the Billboard Hot 100 singles for each year.
1974 Band on the Run (Paul McCartney and Wings) - I inherited the vinyl copy of the album that this song is on from my sister. I'm not sure when she got it, but I like to think she was playing the album while my mom was pregnant with me. This was #22
1975 Best of my Love (Eagles) - This is the last song on Desperado. I have a lot of mixed feelings about what happened with the Eagles post getting back together, but I was obsessed with solo Don Henley and the Eagles from 12 until about 22-23. This was #13
1976 Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) - When Wayne's World came out, I was already knew this and several other Queen songs. I remember dramatically singing this into a hair brush sometime between kindergarten and first grade. This was #18
1977 Fly Like an Eagle (Steve Miller Band) - Many of the songs I like from this year I can't say I remember from childhood. This slightly tied with You Make Me Feel like Dancing by Leo Sayer because of memories of it. Fly Like and Eagle won because I still want to listen to this song now. I can't say the same for You Make Me Feel Like dancing. This was #28
1978 Take a Chance on Me (ABBA) - Of course this is the favorite from 1978. I even have a picture of tiny me holding the album it's on! This was #32
1979 I Want You to Want Me (Cheap Trick) - It's the live version from Cheap Trick at Budokan that charted and what I remember being played on the radio a lot. This was #34
*1980 is already making this difficult!
