“Okay, but lacrosse is a real sport or else it wouldn’t be apart of the NCAA. Look, you can’t blame the South Shore’s steroids. That’s not football and you know it, Mr. High Horse. Why so hostile?”

“Your skepticism when it comes to my humor is breaking my heart to pieces,” he sighed dramatically, not at all bothered, though pretending to be shallowly. “You could?” he challenged, with a wide grin. “You could? How would you murder me, then? Please, I’m so curious, if you’re so capable.”

She rolled her eyes before turning back around to look him in the eye. “Oh, shut the fuck up,” she breathed, shoving his shoulder again. “I couldn’t kill anybody, let alone you. Just,” she felt a shrill noise erupt from her throat. “Just don’t scare me anymore. What’re you doing out her anyway?”

“I always try to be cute, don’t I?” He shrugged and laughed as she messed his hair up. He watched her travel to his room, making sure she was fully inside his doorway before moving to the cellar to raid his liquor cabinet. A few minutes passed, after numerous muffled curses could be heard coming from downstairs, he entered his own room holding two solo cups from his mouth, biting down on them to hold tight while his hands were occupied holding a bottle of whiskey, and a two-liter bottle of coke. “Hmpfff.” He muffled with the cups in his mouth before setting the bottles down and removing the cups from his mouth, presenting one to her. “I refuse to be the only drunk one here tonight!” He smiled, blinking a few times to remind himself to behave.

When the boy clambered into the room with alcohol, she felt a tug of conflict within her. She stood up and made her way over to him and set the cups upright. “Would it really be smart for the babysitter to allow the baby to get her drunk?” she asked, trying to follow along with what she’d just said. She picked up the whiskey and began to pour a shot but pulling it up to her lips and taking it down with no chaser. “I’m not too sure this is your best plan,” she giggled, creating the mix drink before helping him out with his.

Fiona wasn’t sorry. Nobody was really sorry. Hardly anybody actually cared. She knew how the rest of the school saw them. Hell, most couldn’t actually put name’s to both their faces, but a popular saying she was sorry for the burnouts loss? No. Fuck that. They were the ones who saw them as so far fucking beneath them in the first place. She wasn’t going to accept that. She scoffed, shaking her head. “What could you possibly do, Fiona?”

She shook her head at the girl and sighed. “Nothing,” she breathed, her fingers tangling with each other. “There’s nothing I could do to help you in any sufficient way but I thought you should know that there are people everywhere that are willing to do anything they can. Whether you choose to accept it or not, thats on you,” she spoke, swallowing her words as she spoke. “I can’t help you with this, but I can try to be as comforting as I can. But I get it, you don’t need me. You’re fine. I’m sorry for trying to reach out.”

Never did Beatrix think she’d have to make paper airplanes for a school assignment. She understood that their lesson was directed towards aerodynamics, but really? They were in high school, for God’s sake. If she wanted to make paper airplanes, she’d go back to kindergarten. Yet, there she found herself, outside in the field during her study hour, trying to see which template flew the farthest. All of her previous trials having been duds, she surely hadn’t expected for the wind to carry her third model farther than a couple feet, and watched with wide eyes as it soared away, like a real plan. She wasn’t in any rush to go after it–it was paper, after all–but they were to record any outliers in their data, and plane number three definitely counted as that. She’d need to see how many feet away it’d fallen from the others. She’d counted to two hundred steps when she looked up to notice she hadn’t been as alone out there as she’d thought. “Oh.” Her eyes widened. “Uh, sorry. I wasn’t trying to mess with you. Science project.” She pointed out, nodding towards the plane.

The girl huffed, stepping out towards the plane herself. She stopped right in front of it and stared down, attempting to think of a smart enough reason as to why they were deciding to teach with origami at this school. “Isn’t it a little foggy to be testing airplanes?” she snorted, leaving the plane where it lay, nto wanting to fuck with her project. “Did you like, build that?”

He stood there for a split second just watching her. It actually took him a while to process that this was, in fact, an actual, breathing and moving creature. Shoving hands into the pockets of his jacket, he cleared his throat, a bunch of thoughts running through his mind at once. “Hello,” he finally responded, not necessarily proud of himself for that one. But, at this point, he wasn’t quite sure what to say; “Uh, hi, you weren’t moving, so I assumed you were dead but wanted to make sure, ha-ha, awkward, sorry for throwing shit at you.” –– that didn’t seem like the best choice. He rolled his eyes at himself, before taking a step closer and finally opening his mouth to speak again. “Hey. Shit, I’m sorry. I hope that didn’t hit you?” 

She crossed her arms over her chest and sighed. “Yeah, hey. No, it didn’t hit me. But I am curious as to why you’re throwing things at people on a turf,” she wondered, stepping towards the boy. “Can I help you? With something?” she spoke, irritation flooding her voice. Not only had the shit been scared out of her, but she was really cold. So the fury was at a high tilt.

At first, he wanted to get her attention because he thought it would be funny to, but as soon as he realized that it for some reason scared her - possibly because she was all alone and nobody was around but them - another idea bloomed in his mind. “Deeeeatthhhhh,” he hissed, trying to sound hoarse enough so his voice wouldn’t be recognizable, but possibly failing, as a smile spread across his face. 

Her eyes turned to slits as she stared the boy down. “Ha. Ha. Ha. Very fucking funny,” she spat, approaching him. The back of her hand smack against his chest before she shoved him back. “Not funny at all, actually. Jamie,” she wanted him to know she knew exactly who he was. “I could kill you,” she pouted, turning away from him. She actually was pretty freaked out, but she could breathe again knowing it was only him.

“Shhhh…. I don’t remember.” He put a finger to his own lip in a ‘hush’ motion. “My parents are gone on a date day today. Spa treatment or some bullshit…” Liam stepped out of the jeep as she opened the door for him. “Thank you, M'lady.” He smirked walking to the front door, pulling out a key and unlocking the door before holding it open for her. “Hey, go up to my room.. I’ll be up in a sec..”

Following him up, she couldn’t help herself but to laugh. She put a hand on his head and tousled his hair before stepping inside. “You’re cute, aren’t ya?” She stepped into the foyer of his home and turned back to look at him suspiciously. “You’re room? Okay,” she said skeptically before heading up the stairs and into his room. She made herself comfortable on the edge of his bed before taking off her jacket. She was left in her spaghetti strap dress that reached her mid-thigh and knee high boots. She crossed her legs and her arms as she waited. “Liam?”

“That sounds.. fucking wonderful. Like, in a non-sexual take care of me though.” And with the last sentence he fucking lost it. He started laughing as he hopped in her car. “I’ve been drinking too much. He pulled a flask from his leather jacket that was empty and he had lost the cap somewhere. "I made one of my O'rodka’s.” He smirked at the seemingly clever name for orange juice and vodka mixed together in a cocktail. His primary drink. He loved citrus and sour things, and the burn of the vodka helped him get drunk as quick as he needed it to suffice him whenever he got sad at home. “Man. Nice Jeep, Fi. When’d you get her?”

She shook her head and started towards his home. “God, how much have you had?” she laughed. “I’ve had it for a few weeks now, but it’s still pretty new, I guess,” she peeked over at him while she drove. “You better not spill, you shit,” she teased, parking in his driveway. “Are your parents home? I don’t want them mad about your public drunkenness.” She cut the engine before getting out and opening his side of the Jeep.

Liam emerged from the woods near the football field. “Oh shit, sorry, Fi!” He laughed, stumbling around and holding a beer in his hand. Beer always hated his stomach. It was mainly the reason he stuck to drinking whiskey and vodka. He made his way closer to her before he came to a slow stop in front of her. “That, uh… That wasn’t supposed to go near you.” He pointed to the rock on the ground near her, obviously kidding. He hadn’t seen his friend in a few weeks with his life being so crazy lately, and he’d been drinking extra heavily after this even with the school. “Hey, I uh… I wanted to know if you could take me home… Er, let me ride you home.. Wait.. Take a ride with me home, or ride you home. Any of those would be good.” He grinned with a slight laugh. He was clearly tipsy, if not already drunk. Same old Liam as always. When he was upset about something, that is. He drinks to forget pain, it’s his only coping mechanism. Someday it’ll be the end of him maybe, but right now he was looking to have a good time with his friend.

She giggled at the boy before heading towards him. He always was a special type of drunk. “You know, throwing rocks while intoxicated could make you considered a public threat,” she breathed, relieved that it was only just Liam. It was actually really great to see him. She pulled his arm over her shoulders and wrapped her arm around his waist to steady him, laughing at his bumbling words. “Yeah, Liam, come on. I’ll take you home and even better? I’ll take care of you,” she said as she walked him to her brand new Jeep. She helped the boy up inside before climbing into the drivers seat. “What have you been drinking anyway? And why were you in the woods?” she asked as she started the car.

Everybody was pretty on edge over the whole Kai business, which made plenty of sense. That isn’t something a student body of a high school should ever go through. Fiona hadn’t known how to help hold her school together at a time like this... a time of such tragedy. Regardless of the cliques, that boy was near her age. People her age shouldn’t be shot and killed over god knows what. She sat on the field, picking at the turf. She didn’t know where else to go in that moment. She just needed some serenity. That was serene, until she heard the sound of something flying overhead and landing a good twenty feet from her. She turned around to see who could’ve thrown it, but couldn’t find anyone. Her heart began to pound. “Hello?” she called out, scared already because of the drama surrounding her school. “Don’t fucking play with me,” she warned, standing up and looking all around her.

“I can’t afford to have us lose another game so is what you have to say really more important then my workout right now? Please think about that before you say another word. If it’s not I’m gonna be a little pissed.”

“I dunno, you’re killing yourself with exercise over a game that could’ve been won through better communication. Take it from me, I play lacrosse. Huge communication sport. Try it, and maybe our team wont drag balls next season.”

“Look, I just wanted to tell you that--I’m sorry. For your loss,” she knew it didn’t mean much coming from her, someone out of her clique and out of her life, pretty much... but she knew what it was like to lose someone, not to murder, but to death. “If you need something... I dunno.”

It was kind of starting to feel like death was something that followed Jack around like some sort of strange acquaintance that clung to his shoulder. Sure Jack hadn’t spent much time getting to know Kai but the boy had been a part of his group. Someone the rest of his friends seemed to adore and love all the same and learning of his passing still felt like a punch to the gut. Even though hell week had just passed he sat out on the bleachers rolling a joint, unable to stomach the thought of going back to class after the announcement. He glanced up from his work when he heard the sound of feet on the metal platform. “Fucked up day today huh?”

Fiona hadn’t been sure about this whole...murder thing. She was not okay with it and she also wasn’t okay with the fact that it happened to someone at her school. Like that’s kinda crazy and scary... and insane. Nobody knew it, but, sometimes when she was stressed and scared? Times like this? She’d hide out under the bleachers and smoke a blunt. Only a few times has she done this, just for the numbness. And this time, she didn’t seem to be alone. She was underneath when she saw someone above. She freaked out a little bit and put the blunt into her empty altoids can before heading out and around. Seems like she wasn’t the only one into 420 therapy. She climbed the steps to the platform and looked on at the boy. “Yeah,” she agreed, stepping towards him and taking a seat. “Pretty fucked up.”
