Our short recap of last month's bike party in Bandung. This was our first cycling trip to the city, and it was crazy fun. It's amazing to see an event in this scale to be free of charge, and those free dim sum buffet was out of this world! Big thanks to Sahabat Sewog and Bodypack Indonesia for creating such an event.

Balap Liar - Season Two Race One

Balap Liar, Indonesian for "Wild Race", is a straight out "who gets from point A to point B the fastest" bicycle race. All routes and navigations are all up to the riders. Last year Balap Liar was intended for all types of bikes, but looking at the scoreboards, road bikers dominate almost all the podiums. 2016 marks the second year of Balap Liar, and it now has two different classifications: Road Bike and Fixed Gear / Single Speed. So now everyone gets a fairer shot at the game.

Founded by Reilly "Adut" Mardino of Siklus Cycling, Balap Liar is currently the biggest street race event that is independently organised by Jakarta's fixed gear community. We are hoping to see a lot more coming, and curious on how this event can contribute on the growth of the cycling community as a whole.

Cyclists of Jakarta - Ibu Ati. Yakult bicycle courier, Kebon Bawang district, Tanjung Priok. Mother of a fifth grader. Rides her bike almost everyday to deliver healthy probiotic dairy products to her loyal customers. 

"...di daerah Kebon Bawang sini cuma saya aja yang keliling... saya hampir setiap hari, tergantung permintaan sih. Sekali angkut bawa 500 botol. Kalo hari Sabtu sampai Senin bawanya 800 botol... Kalo yang naik motor itu cuma pengiriman besar aja. Yang ke rumah-rumah semuanya naik sepeda."

Cyclists of Jakarta - Pak Yanto. Wakes up very early in the morning everyday for the last 20 years to deliver newspaper to subscriber’s doors. One of two remaining official Kompas Gramedia group newspaper bicycle messenger in the Bendungan Hilir district.
