Wondering in Winter || Harrison & Anna

"Oh, a magnifying glass would work," Harrison told her without thinking, "You can just look at a snowflake on your sleeve and you should be fine." He remembered back in elementary school that his science class did a little experiment involving hair spray, a mirror, a pot lid, and a cardboard box. Harrison doubted that the girl would go along with his idea; especially since he’s nowhere near his house to gather supplies. 

He shouldn’t have been as stunned as he felt, but he did. Have Harrison help build an igloo? That had bad idea written all over it. What if he messed it up? His clumsiness would get the better of him. She seemed like a nice girl and he wasn’t as nervous around like without people, but that was because he hasn’t done anything embarrassing in front of her (except exist). She would have a better chance building it by herself. However…she did say that they could try. If there’s one thing he took a little pride in, it was that he tries. “Harrison: amature igloo builder, at your service,” Harrison introduced with a smile smile as his gloved hand shook hers shly.

"Maybe! But they keep melting!" She sighed but then looked at him like he was a genius. "My jacket! Maybe!" She giggled. "If I find a magnifying glass i'll check!" She didn't have one on her (Who carried that sort of thing anyway??? Not Anna!). It wasn't really that important to her anymore, it was a passing curiousity which was now replaced with the avid need to build an igloo.... where these things came from before they popped into her midn she didn't know but she knew she wanted to do it now that it had.

She grinned widely when he agreed, rather oblivious to the fact that he'd momentarily frozen. "Harrison? I like that! Do you go by Harry? I don't think I like that as much..." She trailed off. "Sorry." Giggling slightly she shook his hand. "I've never built one either, so we can be amateur igloo builders together!" Suddenly she paused, clearly losing herself in thought for a brief second. "Is that a thing? I think it should be a thing! Amateur igloo builders!"

"If you build them right," he nodded, "supposedly. But I think the blocks are partially ice, or something like that. It’s not regular packed snow, as far as I heard. I think, anyway. I’m not an eskimo, no one ever taught me how to live in an igloo." It just seemed logical, or he would have tried to build one and live in it all winter by now. A slight smile appeared on his face when he heard her request. No one had ever played in the snow with him before. He was used to it being just him. It was supposed to be… fun to have more people around. "I want to," he grinned at her, hoping she actually wanted to, "I like the snow. It’s my favorite!"

Anna listened and then thought quite dramatically over his words. That would make sense... ice... snow... would make them last longer. That was for sure!! "I don't think I'd want to live in an igloo anyway! I like hot chocolate i wouldn't want to melt my house!" She laughed at the idea of that. Plus she liked warm, snow was fun but only if you could go inside and warm up later. "Yay!" She clapped a little over enthusiastically but it was completely genuine. "What do you want to do? Build a fort? Igloo? Snow ball fight...?" She eyed him a moment. "Do you want to build a snow man??"

Blinking in confusion, Harrison looked over his shoulders to see who the girl was talking to. It was directed at him?  Did the apocalypse happened and she’s the poor soul stuck with the only person on Earth? Chill, Harrison. Seeing no else but them around, Harrison pressed his lips together and nodded. “If science hasn’t lied to us, they’re supposed to,” Harrison replied without thinking. That sounded weird. Oh boy.  

A tiny smile appeared the more he listened to her. She seemed happy. It was nice to hear people being passionate at something; even for snow. “It’s possible,” Harrison said quietly, his shoulders rising and falling in place, “it might take awhile, though.” Mental high five for not being a bumbling idiot in front of a stranger so far.

"I know! Don't you wish that you could actually look at them and see? Maybe if I had one of those nifty microscopes..." She trailed off pondering the idea of it. I mean that had to be how they were able to tell right? How did they keep them frozen? She had so many questions but most were lost as a new one popped into her head.

She bit her lip and looked around them. "Do you think there's enough snow? Do you want to help me build an igloo? Or try?" She shrugged. "I mean if we tried at least we can say we tried next time someone asks if we've ever built an igloo!! I'm Anna by the way, what's your name?" She offered a mittened hand to him, seemingly realizing mid-asking to build an igloo that she hadn't a clue who this boy was.

Creative Block I Elisa and Anna

Elisa starred down at the sign. Why on earth had she wanted to do this of all things? She wasn’t creative… well at least not with markers and had no idea where even to start. She wanted a sea theme, after all sea puns were kinda their thing but other than that she had no idea. She looked up countless tutorials on how to draw a whale or any other marine life but for some reason each time her pencil touched the paper (she was drafting it on a spare sheet of paper) it turned into a grey blob. Maybe her sister could help?”Anna?” She called, her voice rising slightly. “Any chance you want to help me make a poster?”

Anna was in the next room, on one of the couches reading a book she'd gotten earlier that day. Her feet up against the back of the couch, touching the wall and her head hanging off, nearly touching the floor. She tilted her head slightly, which was fairly comical upside down. "Yes!" She cried out, kicking off the wall and half rolling, half flopping onto the floor in a semi-upright position. Tossing her book onto the couch before she took off towards the room her sister currently occupied. Peeking in briefly to check if she heard right she grinned and sauntered over. "What kinda poster?"

"That’s the only explanation." He told the girl while giving her a slight smile. He didn’t understand how happy she could be while talking about a simple hat. Her joy radiated off her and brushed against him, putting the small smile on his face. He knew that it had to be effecting others around him as well. There was no way that it could be just him. He was convinced that she could make any and every situation happy, and most likely did. He paused for a moment, trying to figure out what it was about her, what it was that was stopping him from grunting at her and leaving like he would anyone else. It was strange, he didn’t know how to explain it, not even to himself. 

"I think you’ve mentioned a candy cane about four times now. You must really enjoy them." He gave a small laugh while shaking his head. "Okay let me see if I’ve got this right. You were out and about frolicking in the snow when you decided to come to Granny’s for the second best hot chocolate, rather than going home or even staying home in the first place?" He shook her head before looking up at her, "You like the snow, don’t you-" He paused, realizing that he hadn’t even bothered to ask her name. "I’m sorry, I never introduced myself. My name is Ben."

She giggled as he agreed. She just liked it because it was one her mother gave her before she'd passed away. It was her favorite and she didn't wear it as often as she would like to because she didn't want to risk it getting ruined, or wearing it out. Or losing it... which, could explain her panic earlier. It was her favorite hat and only came out of her closet every now and again.

Anna looked up at him and blushed. "I do! And chocolate, but I get that all year 'round. But Candy Canes are only a winter thing and winter is my favorite holiday...season... thing..." She trailed off and looked down at the table in embarrassment for a moment. Before returning her attention back to him. "I love the snow! Who doesn't! What's not to love? You can build snowmen, and go sledding! and have snowball fights! I mean, I guess it's cold but really it's so much fun you don't even notice until you slow down. And then you get to go inside and have hot chocolate and warm up." She nodded matter of factly. "Oh- I'm Anna!"

“Not at all,” he shook his head, confused by that, “See, with an igloo, it’s made out of like… bricks. And you need to make them, and put them down just right, or it doesn’t help. And a fort’s open, anyways, it doesn’t need to be as stable, with an igloo everything will just fall in on you if you mess up. Not fun.” Mikhail was an only child, and his father wasn’t one to play. He’d never been very social. But the winter months were his favorites even without friends to have snowball fights, and he’d played in the snow until he couldn’t feel his face in the past. He’d tried igloos. They’d never work out well.

"Snow bricks!" She giggled, before going quiet and listening to him talk about the difference. Nodding, intently listening to his descriptions and the reasoning as to why they were different. "But igloos last longer, don't they? Maybe... I mean Eskimos live in them right?" She tilted her head, realizing after she said it that shew wasn't so sure on that fact. Sure the TV said it... but that doesn't mean that it was true. But books said it too, so surely it was sort of true...? Maybe a little? She really hadn't a clue but either way if they were even rumored to live in them than certainly they were built to last. "Do you wanna build one with me? Snow fort or Igloo... I don't care! I just wanna play in the snow!" She giggled.

Lucia stood in the now watching the snow flakes cascade down. She loved winter, though she loved all the seasons, she loved nature in general. She jumped as she heard a voice near her, it was a girl she had never met before speaking about the weather and snow. “Um, I believe so. T-they melt to fast to tell” she stuttered nervously. “I’ve never built an igloo before…”

"I wish I could see..." She muttered, dropping her hands down at her sides. Knowing it was futile to attempt to catch and see the little crystal-like pieces of snow around them. But her eyes suddenly darted up an dfocused on the other girl. "We should do it! Do you want help ? I've never done it before but it could be totally awesome! I'm sure we could figure it out!" She shrugged, she wanted to build one...

"At least most of them behave well." He told her while smiling slightly. She talked a lot, a lot more than he did at least. It was cute though, nothing too heavy or serious and that was nice every once in a while. He spent all his time around people who were uptight and only spoke when it was needed. "I should probably get a hat." He said again while nodding at her. "I’m that I could help with its safe return to your head." 

When she said that she didn’t mind, a slightly bigger smile came over his lips and he slide into the seat, folding his arms onto the table while he watched her, “You came just for hot chocolate?” He raised an eyebrow before shaking his head. “For the sake of your feet I hope you live close.” He leaned forwards a bit, leaning onto his folded arms. “What is it that makes this hot chocolate so much better than all the other hot chocolates you can get in this town? I might as well know what I’m going to be in for when I get some.”

"Exactly! This one must just be the bad apple. But it's still my favorite." She patted the hat with a side glance to it. "You should! It's cold you, you could get frost bite on your ears and that doesn't sound like any fun." At least that was what one of their maids said, Marissa. She always insisted that Anna wear a hat and make sure her ears were covered. "And a scarf too, it keeps your neck warm. Mittens if you're going to play in the snow." And who wouldn't want to play in the snow? That was the fun of it.

"Well not just for the hot chocolate! I was out and decided to stop in. Not that I don't love the hot chocolate here! It's amazing and Granny always gives me a candy cane in it. But it's the best place aside from my house to get hot chocolate!" Her cook made the absolute best hot chocolate she'd ever had. Of course, that was one of the advantages of having a high ranked chef for hired help.

Mikhail had been on his way home, from another errand in town. He shouldn’t have pushed so many off for three years. But he wasn’t fond of sadness, or being wistful, so he’d avoided many until now. But it was time to get away from his father’s ghost. He was a block away from his house, when suddenly a girl, holding up some snow, started rambling, and he couldn’t help but turn and look, grinning, “It is!” he agreed, wholeheartedly, going over to stand by her. Maybe it was his Russian descent, but he loved the snow, and the cold. “But igloos are so much work! Snow forts are better!”

She giggled when someone actually responded, used to talking to paintings or suits of armor. Of course she had the helpers... but really they didn't really pay her much attention unless she was asking something of them. She was far too talkative for them to deal with an work so they just opted to work. She blinked at his works, tilting her head. "What's the difference? isn't an igloo just a fort made out of snow?" She looked down at the snow, wondering if it had any answers on the subject.

A Strange Lunch Date || Nigel and Anna

"How did you live in the same house and never talk?" He asked her while looking a mixture of shocked and impressed. That was a feet, he made a mental note to never do anything that would cause her to get angry, he didn’t feel like going years without talking to her. He’d become a very sad Nigel. "Sharing is always good. So is communication and human interactions. And food and water. All important for survival." He told the girl while nodding.

"I love chocolate, so long as it’s not white. Chocolate wasn’t made to be white and white chocolate isn’t even real chocolate like things. There’s no cocoa beans or anything even like it." His expression didn’t change at all when she seemed to be trying to figure out what exactly he and Elisa were. If Elisa and Anna wanted to talk about it, he wouldn’t mind. At the moment though he had no idea. "Approval is good, I feel like eating lunch together would be awkward if you didn’t approve of me… For something.  I don’t know what I’m being approved for, but I like it."

"It's a long story... She says she was..." Anna brought her hands up to do air quotes. "Protecting me." because she still didn't understand... not that Elisa had even tried to explain. "From what? I don't know! But... We've been talking more lately... sort of. More than before..." She shrugged, muttering. "Not that it takes much to beat nothing." Under her breath. Of course she wasn't really that bitter about it. It was just painful to think of all those years she'd missed with her sister. "It is! And it's really really boring  to be all alone." She made a face of annoyance and disgust at the idea of being alone again for very long.

"I like white chocolate, and dark chocolate. But milk chocolate is my favorite. We always have it in the house. It's one thing Elisa and I can't live without!" She giggled. It was just as necessary as milk in anyone else's house for the two young heiresses. "It could be, but you're good... so far." She gave him a warning look that was ruined quickly by giggles. "For talking to my sister, being her friend. We look out for each other. And if you're here you must be close... so I must approve." She said as if it were the obvious answer. "C'mon! To the kitchen!" She said, taking off down the hall, skidding a few feet in socks after a running start before looking back at him and waiting for him to catch up.

"Do your hats often jump up and run away on you? If so then I think you might need a few new hats." He told her while giving her a slight smile. "You’re welcome, I couldn’t leave it outside after I saw it. The thought of you walking around with a cold head is honestly just unpleasant. I’m even starting to think about a hat for myself." Only after he had stopped talking did Ben realize that was actually going on. That was more than he’d talked to someone outside of his brothers for a really long time. Here he was breaking his near silence, only a few words spoken when needed, for some smiling young girl, who honestly seemed happy as a clam, which he was enjoying. 

Ben was just about to walk away, not wanting to bother her if she wanted to be alone, when she stuck her hand out. Her small hand was easier covered by his large one, which only added to how cute she seemed. “Anna, what a lovely name. I’m Ben, it’s a pleasure to meet you.” He watched her again, this time watching her fingers and smile. “Are you getting lunch and, follow up question, would you mind too terribly if I joined you?”

"Not usually...  I have mostly good hats." She giggled. "You should get one, everyone should have a hat in the winter." She would have offered him her hat... but she doubted the purpley pink with white fuzz lining would suit him. But Anna had plenty of money and though she loved her hat, she would give it to someone else who needed it in a heartbeat. But- she couldn't see him wearing it, even if he was really nice. So she kept the hat to herself. "It's my favorite hat, I'm glad to have it back." She grinned, it wasn't a lie, even if she almost just offered it to him.

"Thanks!" She grinned, she liked her name well enough. She only wasn't too fond of when people called her Anne-ah rather than Ahn-ah. Not that she didn't like the name... she just wanted to be called her rightful name. "Nice to meet you too." She bobbed her head. She shook her head. "I don't mind at all! I was debating lunch... but I came mostly for the hot chocolate. It's perfect weather for it and Granny always puts a candy cane in mine in the winter."

"Your sister is making me sad." He told the girl while putting his phone back into his pocket after he’d sent a message to Elisa. "What would she even be doing without me? Does she do fun things when I’m not around?" Nigel did fun things without Elisa too, just this morning he’d been knitting, but he was still sad he didn’t know where she was. 

He look at the house curiously for a second before shrugging and nodding. “Sure! Why the hell not? We’ll have our own fun without her.” She had to show up eventually, even if it took an hour, Elisa had to eventually come home and if she didn’t he’d just leave. For now getting to know her sister seemed like a fun pass time.

"She didn't talk to me for years... I'm just happy she's out of the house, even if I like spending time with her." She shrugged a bit. "I don't know what she does, we're still kind of... getting used to sharing again." She wasn't sure how much Elisa had shared with the boy, but Anna wasn't really in the habit of lying so naturally the truth just rolled off her tongue before she realized maybe Elisa hadn't explained how they'd grown up.

Anna grinned and clapped in happiness. "Yes! We've got chocolate too. If you like chocolate, if not... you don't belong here..." She said with a serious face that lasted all of 0.2 seconds before she grinned. "Plus if you're Elisa's ....friend...?" She eyed him in a manner that suggested she wasn't sure what to call him. "You have to have my approval." That much she was serious on.

He wasn’t creepy, at least he wasn’t trying to be, but he couldn’t stop himself from watching as she bounced by. Her hair flew in every direction, which may be considered messy to some, but for her it was just an extension of the energy he could see bursting within. And he loved it. He didn’t even know her name, but he found his eyes following after her, wanting to know more, to know who she was and to understand her story. It was freezing outside, which he didn’t mind, the cold was more welcoming than the heat, but for most people it at the very least slowed their movements. This girl seemed to collect her energy from the fallen snow. 

As soon as she came, she was gone. He blinked a few times, trying to get the girl out of his head before he walked inside himself. As he approached the door he paused in his set, noticing a bit of fabric that was about to be crushed by his boot. The hat was clearly the one the girl had been wearing before, which made him smile a bite while shaking his head. Bending his knees, he lowered himself to the ground and lifted it from the snow, carefully brushing the wet from it, before standing once again and going inside. He raised an eyebrow as he watched her look around for it, it was funny how she checked her hood and scarf. The man cleared his throat quietly and held it out to her, “I believe this is yours.”

Anna sighed and wrinkled her nose, wondering where her hat had gotten off to and was just about to jump up to go and search when it was offered to her. She looked up and beamed happily. "It is! I thought i'd run off on me." Giggling, she set it with her jacket and scarf, both shoved in the corner of her booth now that she hadn't needed to go back outside. "Thank you!"

She paused barely a minute before she offered her hand. "I'm Anna, by the way." He seemed to fit the tall, dark and handsome stereotype to a T. Maybe even mysterious too. She couldn't tell but he had that look about him. She wasn't sure if that was good or bad... He seemed nice, he'd brought her her hat when he could have just left it and she wouldn't have ever known he'd seen it.

A Strange Lunch Date || Nigel and Anna

Nigel rocked back and forth, keeping his hands in his pockets while he did. When the door was tossed open he watched the stranger for a moment, automatically knowing that it was her sister Anna. “Crabby. Ha.” He grinned at the girl while running a hand through his hand and looking around. “She’s not here? Oh… That’s, awkward.” He made a face while looking down at his feet. 

When he heard her next comment he grinned and wiggled a bit for her before pulling his phone out of his pocket. “I guess I should go track her down then, I’m starving. It was nice meeting you though, I’m assuming you her sister, Anna. I’m Nigel.”

She giggled when she actually got an amused sort of reaction at her joke. Normally the puns she made were only appreciated by her sister. Other people just gave her that really sort of look. "Yeah... sorry.." Who was he? Anna liked him already he seemed nice at least.

She couldn't help but laugh at his impersonation of Jello. "That's me!" She grinned widely. "Hey- Why don't you come in and have lunch here? You can wait for her and our cooks can make anything even jello! I ust think they need to wait for it to set first... so it might be a bit... but we have anything else! And Elisa will be back sometime!" Plus Elisa trusted him enough that he was showing up here so he was definitely someone to get to know.
