“Yup!” Del confirmed enthusiastically. “We’re about halfway done.” Already the food was smelling delicious and the mermaid couldn’t wait to dig in to the finished product of their work.

“Well if you are so used to the cold, the sun would definitely bother you. I always imagined mermaids to be fatter like seals to stay warm in the water. But I guess not. You’re not cold blooded are you?”
Del pursed her lips. “Hmm, not quite sure. We’re magical creatures, so maybe that’s just one of our supernatural elements, but since I’m not a scientist I don’t have anything definitive. I guess I just never really thought about it.”

“It can get to below freezing,” Delphine admitted, “but considering how deep we mermaids can swim, it doesn’t actually bother us. Now heat.... That’s the one that does bothers us. Especially if it’s the sun.”

“Yeah, well I’m older than any human left alive. He’d lose trying to play that card with me,” Del remarked, a mischievous smirk gracing her lips.

“Yeah, that might be it.” Delphine paused a moment to check on their cooking dinner to make sure it didn’t get ruined. “I’ll bake more if I’m feeling lazy, certainly. Either that or my sweet tooth runs a rampage on my stomach,” she added with a laugh.
