For the 2025 12 days of Christmas challenge hosted by @12daysofchristmas
Synopsis: Christmas is nearing and Jun is excited to decorate their house for the holidays. But when Wonwoo accidentally got tangled up in Christmas lights, one thing led to another, and the couple ended up doing more than just decorating the house that day.

Wonwoo stretched his arms, leaning back in his chair. He had just spent the last few hours playing PUBG with S.Coups. He glanced at the clock which read 2a.m. He rubbed his eyes tiredly as he pulled his headset off and shut his computer down for the night. He should probably head to bed soon, he had a brand event tomorrow evening so he’d have to leave the house by late morning.
He quietly made his way to the kitchen to grab some water before heading to bed, only to find that the lights were still on. Wonwoo frowned, who would still be up at this time? It was usually him and S.Coups who stayed up the latest from losing track of time when playing games. As he rounded the corner into the kitchen, he saw Jun stirring a pot on the stove.
“Junnie? What are you doing up at this hour?” Wonwoo called out.
Jun spun around, surprised that someone was still awake. “Oh hey Wonwoo. I could ask you the same thing. Gaming again?” Jun asked as he turned back to face the stove.
“Yea, Coups and I were playing some games together and lost track of time. I’m about to head to sleep now though.” Wonwoo leaned closer to the pot to see what his boyfriend was making. “Chicken wings? At 2am?”
“Are you judging me or the chicken wings?” Jun asked as he poked Wonwoo’s side. “What’s wrong with making chicken wings at 2am?” he huffed with a pout.
Wonwoo chuckled, grabbing Jun’s hand to stop him from poking his waist. He pivoted to stand behind him and wrapped his arms around his waist. “I’m not judging you, just wondering why you’re up so late.” Wonwoo nuzzled against Jun’s neck before kissing the spot right under his ear. “Are you feeling ok?”
Wonwoo knew Jun had a tendency to cook at odd hours of the day whenever something was on his mind. And making chicken wings at 2am definitely qualified as an odd time.
Jun twisted his head to look at Wonwoo with a soft expression. He really appreciated that Wonwoo always made sure he was fine, no matter how busy he got. “I’m fine Wonwon, I just kind of miss home. I was feeling a little nostalgic so I decided to make cola wings.”
Wonwoo raised his eyebrows, intrigued. “Cola wings? That sounds… interesting.”
Jun hummed as he nodded. “It’s literally chicken wings soaked in coke. It’s delicious.”
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard of that before. Can I try one when you’re done making them?”
“Didn’t you say you were heading to bed?” Jun shot him a pointed look.
“I can go to bed after I try the chef’s highly recommended cola wings,” Wonwoo countered, flashing a smug grin.
Jun elbowed him lightly, trying to wriggle free from the arms wrapped around his waist. “Jeon Wonwoo, you have an event tomorrow. For goodness’ sake, go to sleep! They won’t be done for another fifteen minutes anyway.”
Instead of letting go, Wonwoo only tightened his hold. “But Junnie,” he whined dramatically, lower lip jutting out, “I want to eat your delicious food.”
Jun let out a helpless giggle. “What are you doing?”
“I’m acting cute so you’ll stop rejecting me,” Wonwoo mumbled, burying his face against Jun’s shoulder. His voice dropped into a soft, shameless whine. “Junnie, pleaaase~”
Jun pressed his lips together, failing miserably at hiding his smile. “Okay, okay, fine!” he laughed, finally giving in. “You can stay. But only one wing.”
Wonwoo perked up immediately. “Deal. And then I’ll go to bed.”
Fifteen minutes later, the kitchen was filled with the warm, sweet smell of caramelized cola and soy sauce. Wonwoo, who had been half-dozing at the counter with his chin propped in his hand, perked up the moment Jun plated the wings.
Jun glanced at him over his shoulder. “Someone looks way too excited.”
“I’m supporting your culinary passion,” Wonwoo said, sitting up straighter. “This is love and dedication.”
Jun chuckled, a smile tugging at his lips. He picked up a wing with chopsticks, blew on it gently to cool it down, then held it up. “Alright. Open.”
Wonwoo raised his brows in a teasing manner. “Wow, the chef is personally feeding me?”
“Do you want it or not?”
Wonwoo didn’t need to be told twice. He leaned forward, taking the bite Jun offered. The flavor hit immediately: sweet, savoury, and a little tangy.
His eyes widened. “Mmmm. Junnie, this is delicious. I think this may be my new favourite flavour of chicken wings.”
Jun burst out laughing. “It’s literally just chicken wings.”
Wonwoo grabbed Jun’s wrist to bring the chopsticks closer so he could take another bite. “No, it’s chicken wings made by my boyfriend at 2am in the morning, fueled by his nostalgia. This is practically art, it’s –”
Jun stuffed the rest of the chicken wing into Wonwoo’s mouth to stop his further rambling. Jun’s cheeks were slowly turning pink from Wonwoo’s praise. “Stop being so dramatic Wonwoo, it’s just food. Now quickly finish your food and go to sleep.”
“Yes mom,” Wonwoo teased but he did as he was told. Once he was done, he slid off the stool, stole a quick kiss from the corner of Jun’s mouth, and whispered, “Worth staying up for.”
Jun shook his head, flustered. “Go before I make you wash dishes.”
“Night, Junnie.”
“Goodnight,” Jun murmured as Wonwoo padded off sleepily, leaving Jun standing in the quiet kitchen, heart far too full for 2 am.

Wonwoo enjoyed keeping a clean space. He was a strong believer that a clean space means a clear mind. That was why he was currently in the middle of clearing out this room that he used as an office in his apartment. He had already gotten rid of two full boxes of notebooks that contained all his notes from university.
Now, he was going through a box that seemed to hold a bunch of polaroids from his time in university. Most of the polaroids were faded, it has been almost a decade since he started university afterall, and storing them in a box was definitely not the best way to preserve them either. Even back then, Wonwoo loved photography. He had a polaroid camera that he took everywhere and was always snapping candid shots of his friends, cute cats he saw on the streets, or anything he thought deserved to be photographed. Years later, he is now a successful photographer with his own studio.
As he sifted through his old handiwork, he realized that most of his photos were of Jun. Wonwoo had met Jun in his first year, the two becoming fast friends through their shared interest in cats. As a matter of fact, Wonwoo met Jun when he was following a cute kitten on campus. The kitten had led him straight to the drama student who was holding a can of cat food, almost as if he was waiting for the kitten to come. That was the first photo he ever took of Jun, Wonwoo had instantly been mesmerized by his beauty. Of course, he had told Jun he was simply taking a photo of the cat when he had asked if he was taking a picture of him. Wonwoo smiled fondly as he looked down at said photo.
The next photo was a photo of Jun holding a black cat, a wide smile plastered on his face. The photo was taken in a cat cafe near their campus, a place they frequented often during their four years there. It was also at that cat cafe that they had their first unofficial date, when this photo was taken. They started officially dating one week later, and Jun was adamant that the cat cafe didn’t count as their first official date.
According to Jun, their first official date was when they went to watch Inside Out in theatres. Jun had been excited to watch it since the trailer dropped and begged Wonwoo to go with him. Wonwoo himself wasn’t a fan of animated movies, but who was he to refuse the requests of the boy that he was in love with? Now, Wonwoo has watched more animated films than he could count. And he’s not quite sure if he’s grown fond of them, or if he enjoys the company of the person he watches them with.
He continued to sift through the polaroids: one of Jun fast asleep on the bus on one of their commutes home, one of Jun running after him with a raised spatula, kicking Wonwoo out of the kitchen after he almost burned water, and dozens of Jun smiling brightly at the camera.
“What’s got you smiling like that Wonwon?” Wonwoo looked up to see his husband leaning against the doorframe.
“I was just looking through some old photos,” he responded, holding up the faded polaroids.
Jun shuffled over to take a closer look at the photos. “Oh my gosh, why are they all pictures of me? Are you a stalker Jeon Wonwoo?” Jun said, mock accusation in his tone. “And this one, you said you were taking a photo of the kitten! I didn’t know I married a liar,” Jun gasped dramatically.
Wonwoo chuckled at Jun’s antics as he pulled his husband closer, resting his chin on his shoulders. “I wasn’t lying, I did take a photo of the cat,” he said as he pointed at the cat that was also captured in the photo.
Jun swatted his finger away, muttering something under his breath about half truths still being lies.
Wonwoo gave Jun’s cheek a quick peck. “What can I say, I was captivated by you the moment I met you.”
Jun pushed him half heartedly, face flushing pink at those words. Even after being married, Jun still got so easily flustered by Wonwoo’s words. It was one of Wonwoo’s secret pleasures, seeing Jun turn a pretty shade of pink made him even more adorable.
“Well, finish up here, dinner’s almost ready,” Jun said as he quickly ran out of the room, palms against his face to try and calm himself down.
Wonwoo let out a soft laugh, “Okay kitten, I’ll be right out.” He put the polaroids back in the box and set the box back onto the shelf.
As he dusted off his hands and walked towards the door, Wonwoo spared one last glance toward the shelf, heart warm. Some memories faded with time, but the love captured in those old polaroids, and in the home he shared now, was only growing clearer.
1. Silence > Scream
❖ Don’t let anyone shout “NOOO!” like it’s a bad soap opera.
❖ The gut-punch comes from stillness. A friend realizing the body isn’t moving. A hand slipping from theirs. A breath that doesn’t come back.
❖ Example: “He waited for the next rise of her chest. It never came.”
2. Subtle Details, Not Monologues
❖ Avoid characters delivering five-minute speeches about how much the dead one meant. That’s cheese-drenched exposition.
❖ Instead: show someone trying to tie their shoes with shaking hands. Or refusing to leave the body. Or pocketing some tiny keepsake.
3. Physicality Over Words
❖ Grief is ugly in the body before it’s in the mouth.
❖ Numb fingers. Stomach drop. Knees buckling against a wall.
❖ The best line might be no line at all—just the sound of someone struggling to breathe.
4. Aftermath, Not Just Death
❖ Don’t zoom out as soon as the heart monitor flatlines. The power is in the next five minutes.
❖ How do the survivors react differently? The sarcastic one goes silent. The stoic one cracks. The optimist starts cleaning blood off their hands like if they scrub hard enough, it won’t be real.
5. Tone, Not Tropes
❖ Kill cliché phrases: “Don’t leave me,” “Stay with me,” “No, God please no!”
❖ Replace with something raw and specific:
- “You were supposed to outlive us all, you stubborn bastard.”
- “Don’t you dare make me the one to tell her.”
